- Footage of scuffles and clashes at a Boxing Day hunt protest in Wales. Violence broke out at a traditional Boxing Day hunt between hunt supporters and protesters.
The annual Tredegar Farmers' Boxing Day Hunt was marred by clashes in Bassaleg, Newport, between some of the 200 or more people watching the start.
Onlookers, including a young boy, were almost trampled by horses that were startled by the noise outside the Tredegar Arms pub.
Gwent Police had to separate the sides but confirmed no arrests were made.

If you choose to bring your horse onto the UK roads you make sure that (s)he's acclimatised, fully, to traffic & people. I sounded my horn to warn another road user it was my right of way on a roundabout, & unfortunately a nearby horse was spooked & kicked out at my car's rear door panel. The UK law ruled that the horse's owner was negligent, in this case, because her horse should've been trained to remain calm in such a situation; I was awarded full costs. How do you think police horses react to militant crowds, given that they're actively deployed by the UK police to help keep public order, outside the grounds, at football matches?!

Kudos to the riders for showing restraint and not letting their horses cause a little damage, not sure I would have had the same restraint. Protest all you want, but yelling near horses is a great way to learn how your cat would feel if you tossed it at a wall. Even that little one could send you flying in the time it takes to blink twice.

The horses should be used for better purposes than being ridden by these animal torturers and what are the police doing about illegal hunting nothing it seems got influence within the police forces who will turn a blind eye.

Being impartial just some thoughts.
1. Why are the Police allowing Fox Hunting to occur, when this activity is illegal and has been banned by Parliament?
2. Like any sporting event, I take it that each organised Hunt pays the cost of the Policing
3. As there is a danger that a member of the Public could be seriously injured I take it that each organised group requires Public Liability Insurance before permission for a Hunt is given.
4. As each organised Hunt use Public Roads, Bridleways and Footpaths I take it that the correct procedure is that a Hunt requires prior written permission from the Local
Authority.
In case you care for some education.
1. The law does not outright ban foxhunting. It allowes exeptions. This seems rather obviously an approved one.
2. Sporting events do not pay for security in public areas. Neither does any event that gets protested by second partys.
3. Public liability insurance is for buisinesses in their workplace, not sure if that would fit here. It should be noted that any danger seen in this video was caused by the protesters, not the protested, and that any hunter needs a specific liability insurance for being a hunter in the first place.
4. These events are obviously approved. You do however not need permission from anyone to use roads to move. Not with cars, and not with horses. Only if you want to occupy a place, in form of a protest for example, would there be the need in some situations to preapprove the event. Usually when you are going to limit or deny the normal purpose of the place.
And your line of questioning shows rather obviously that you are not impartial, but that you are looking for reasons to claim that there is something wrong with the hunt.
Everyone who fox hunts is brain dead and deserves to go to prison.
Trail hunting is still allowed.
The problem is that the dogs might still encounter the trail of an actual fox and choose the follow that one (instead of the mandmade trail)....

David Smith I agree with you, and it would have been better if it was a peaceful protest. But some hunters do not treat their horses very well at all, and hounds do get killed on the road when they lose control of the hounds near a road. And hunt supporters do often use violence against both Male and female sabs and is clearly assault. It's a sad affair all round.

The lambs, all aged between seven days and two weeks old, had been mauled to death, left to die in fields or dragged away. Many suffered bite marks to their throats or “crunch” marks to their skulls.
Marksmen used thermal imaging cameras to target eight foxes, which were shot dead in the one field in Hawkridge, Exmoor, on Tuesday 15 March. A further two foxes were killed on Friday 18 March.
Mr Collins said: “We have been farming here since 1970 and this is the worst sheep attack we’ve ever had.
“Someone is turning urban foxes out into the countryside and we don’t know who. With Easter being early this year, we were the first people that lambed in this area, which may explain why we’ve been so badly hit. “Dumping urban foxes in the countryside is cruel to the foxes, cruel to the sheep and frustrating for the farmers who have to deal with the consequences.”
He is “100% convinced” that the foxes had been captured in cities and towns and let loose in the countryside.
“Some of the foxes had been in car crashes as their hairs have been clipped on their bodies. One fox was shot dead after it came out of a hedge and was attracted by a dog biscuit. A wild fox would never have done that.”
Under wildlife protection laws, anyone who releases a fox in an area where it “may be caused harm” faces up to six months imprisonment and/or £5,000 fine per animal. Farmers Weekly 29 March 2016

I have a good friend who's a retired farmer, he didn't go hunting on horse back with hounds but I know he didn't like Fox's and would probably shoot one given the chance. I'm totally against it, especially killing an animal just for the fun of it. What a way to die, being ripped apart alive.
Thats how they die in nature, eaten alive by wolves, coyotes, cougars, and bears.

This isn't even a fox hunt. It's a drag hunt. They artificially lay a trail using a strong smell. They have horses and dog traverse the trail. Foxes aren't involved. Not at all. They used to be. Not now. They started drag hunting as a method of training cavalry and dogs, while being humane as well as preserving the culture of the country. All the foxes are okay. Horses could have been injured fatally if they fell though.
