    This is the greatest shooting instructional seminar I've ever seen. I've seen Hopla, I was taught by Alloco, and I watch every shooting video I come across.
    This is hands down the greatest shooting seminar I've hever seen in my life. Herb McGee is a legend. Everyone should watch this, and then watch it again.

      @Acorn Slim I agree. I'm shocked that this video has so few views, and that your comment has so few likes.

    Coach Magee is a legend and is a wealth of knowledge. I remember watching this years ago and it really helped my shot. I will say that like many other coaches, he falls into a trap of saying one thing while being unaware that he is doing something different. At 41:16, Coach Magee says to put two shooting fingers over the rim, yet if you slow down the video, you will see that his shooting hand will turn in at the release before quickly turning back out. When shooting this way, the ball will come off the last three fingers. I only point this out to show that even though it is sound advice to shoot with a split-finger release as he suggests, you can still be successful doing it other ways. There are loads of outdated shooting instructions that cause players to try to "fix" their shot, but ultimately leave them worse off with a more rigid and mechanical shot. My best advice to any student of the game would be to take everything you hear with a grain of salt. Anything that makes your shot more fluid and effortless is probably sound advice.

    Where was this guy when I was 15-years old? My coach taught me nothing. He was a jerk who ran us around the gym, then selected the five best guys and neglected us totally. Zero growth from him. Ironically, he taught the five best guys nothing about the fundamentals. After he cut me from the team, I went out into the yard and made 88/100 shots from all over. Then, he sent the captain of the team to talk to me. I wasn't interested. Get this: five years later the guy was at my swim club watching me shoot just to see if he made a mistake. In stark contrast, this guy, with the mustache, is a real coach & a real player; whereas my coach was a mere talent spotter good enough to hang on to his job, but nobody got better because of the knowledge he didn't share or didn't have.

      I just stumbled across video randomly, and I've never seen anything like it or even close. He even talks about the sound the ball makes as it leaves your fingertips.

    I try this stuff ,like for 2 days when I'm so excited about ît .what happens I win alot of shots but at some point I start missing ,like alot,I check my movements and they are ok ,then I wonder what I've done wrong .then another video gets in and the cycle continues.Instead of having steady improvement I'm lowering my confidence .
    I think coaches need to tell us about the emotional turbulances a shooter goes through on the path to greatness.

    Around the 23:00 mark, Coach Herb Magee talks about Jordan's last shot against the Jazz. Previously, he said that the shooting hand should be an L shape, not V shaped. If you do V-shape, you're using just your arm muscles. If you use L shape, you can use your legs too.
    I was reviewing Jordan's last shot, and with Coach Magee's advice in my ears, I noticed John Stockton shooting a crucial 3-point shot with a V-shape. ua-cam.com/video/8V_1ZxCN3nI/v-deo.html

      Please indicate the time or times in this video where Coach says anything about having the hand in an L-shape, or the hand in a V-shape.
      I only recall him instructing to “keep the arm in the shape of the letter L”, which is an entirely different thing.
      Again, plz time stamp it if he did say this, bc I could easily be wrong.
      Thanks

    The most recent research into shot mechanics confirms that the last finger that touches the ball is the middle finger. So the best form is to hold the basketball in the real center of the ball and that would mean the middle finger is in the middle of the ball. If the middle finger is in the middle of the ball and you shoot so that the middle finger points exactly to the middle of the hoop the shot will go right to the middle of the hoop. Then it is just a matter of arc determined by the angle of your arm when you shoot and force determined by the power in the legs.

      If you watch the video, the guy makes about 30 shots in a row. Then the young boy gets up there and makes 10 to 15 in a row. Maybe he knows what he I s talking about?

    • @larrywarshauer1127
      @larrywarshauer1127 2 роки тому

      @@fpvaddictdad2730 See the difference between thinking that the middle and index finger shoulder be centered between the air hole and the middle finger should be on the air hole (the center of the ball) is so slight that if you are an accurate shooter putting the ball in the center of the hoop - both methods work. But technically it is always that the last finger that touches the ball is the middle finger (basically because it is slightly larger than the index finger. Try shooting with the middle finger on the hole and your middle finger pointing to the center of the hoop and you will see how straight the shot immediately becomes.

      @@larrywarshauer1127 My hands are too small for me to shoot with the middle finger even though it is longer than my pointer. I shoot index cause its more natural but I shoot left a lot.

    • @larrywarshauer1127
      @larrywarshauer1127 Місяць тому

      @@briang7794 Understand that there many ways to shoot a basketball and if you practice enough you can get consistantly good shooting in all sorts of different ways. If you shoot index finger and practice tenoght hat it will work, same with split finger, same with holding the off hand on the side or on the top of the ball . If you practice enough one particular way you can get real consistant. But for the overwhelming number of humans the middle finger is the longest finger and if you put the middle finger in the middle of the ball and shoot the ball so the middle finger points directly toward the middle of the hoop - THE BALL WILL FLY DIRECTLY TOWARD THE MIDDLE OF THE HOOP. So young people who are trying to develop a shooting form I always tell them the simplest way to shoot straight is to shoot with the middle finger in the middle because that is the last finger that touches the ball and wherever that middle finger points is the direction that the ball goes .
