360VR Kitzbuhel Downhill Run at Full Speed

- I produced this video to demonstrate THE FUTURE of how media will cover downhill skiing, LIVE TO YOUR CELLPHONE! The speed as indicated is not the actual speed for this run. We couldn’t find that exact data when we made this video so we represented what it would be like if you were setting the world speed record for a World Cup race.
A speedometer was added along with biometric feedback and leader boards in the sky to showcase how, in the future, data will be presented and streamed LIVE FROM THE SKIER STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE, VR headsets or other screens. The names on the leaderboards are fictitious, as is the data. BE SURE TO LOOK AROUND! THIS IS A 360 VIDEO.
FYI a speed of 100 miles per hour (161 km/h) was first achieved by Johan Clarey at the 2013 Lauberhorn World Cup, beating the previous record of 98 mph (158 km/h), set by Italian Stefan Thanei in 2005.
If you want another great race in VR check out the other VR360 vids I produced on my channel - horse race, REBELLION’S DREAM 360 at • 360 SPHERICAL VR HORSE... . I think horse racing VR is way better than on TV and even better than when you go to the track. Most people just watch the TVs at the track anyway. This you can watch on your phone... coming live in the near future. Just waiting for 5G to catch up.
Check out the Ski Cross in VR360 here: • ALPINE CANADA 2017 Wor... . Also really really cool!
Someone finally read the comment section and figured out how to do a skiing video. No music, no cuts, just show the complete run.

Wow, that’s talent. I loved when I was young to ski like that, but to watch, awesome, thanks
I only skied it this year. It was a bad year for snow, lots of icy patches. But seeing it live, the risks and the lines they take is unbelievable. Normally go to Austria every year ( I’m Irish) but will definitely go back for the race. Although to stay there is extremely expensive I found
just realized that you can 360 pivot the POV ...and watched it with the camera facing backwards ...this is a very cool and useful ski experience technology - it really gives you a lot more insight when you are actually along for the ride of the skier and can even see more that the skier! - kudos to the skier for making that look doable to mere mortals
Skied Kitz a few times many years ago, that Hahnenkham run is EXTREMELY STEEP, hats off to this skier🔥🔥🔥 such courage and skill,
Yes the speed is not exact for this course. I designed this video to give the viewer the "Feeling from the skier's perspective" of going 160kph, which is the record for speed in a World Cup downhill ski race set by Johan Clarey of France. His speed was actually clocked at 160.9kph. We couldn't find the average speed on Kitz every inch of the way down so we produced a speedometer for example only. I produced another video on skiing fast with our Canadian National Ski Team. You can find the video here: ua-cam.com/video/SDUMEzf9dE8/v-deo.html
I hope you all enjoy the experience. Even better when viewed with a VR headset.

LOL! Awesome video, Kudos!
I will admit, I was watching this during my morning ritual. By the end, I found myself leaning so far forward that I almost fell off the toilet. Either way, I was definitely on the proper seat for viewing this.
I am doing the same! Banged me head against the wall once.

LOL awesome comment
Wish I had read this comment before watching the video. Oh well, it's laundry day anyway.
Downhill bogger champ!!
Brought back memories of 30 yrs ago. Thanks
That was very impressive. Every professional skier who dares to race at Hahnenkamm is a hero.
Or dumb
@@mahamedqasim Or both
I actually got that feeling in my stomach you get when you go off the top of a bump and know that you are are going to be flying for a bit…. Amazing video.
That’s one hell of a downhill!! Thnx for this upload!!
Great video, glad you didn't add music to it as so many do.
these guys are crazy
The ladies are too.
@@DavidBaker_WindfieldMedia There is only the male downhill competition at Kitzbühel though.
This is one of the coolest videos I've ever seen, period. Very exciting. This guy is amazing.
I now have even more of an appreciation of the steepness of the fall away at the traverse.
I didn't realize those guys were hitting 90mph, now.
Amazing.
He hit 100mph near the end.
I had knew 104 kmh when I was skiing...
It was exciting and I was frightened in the same time...
These guys are incredibles...
Excuse me for my bad English
Yes... I had that very same dream too lol
Yep, I've clocked myself at 91kph and that was on a wide open slope only making 2-3 turns not a narrow course with hills and jumps you can't see over. Your heart rate definitely increases even if it doesn't 'feel' extremely fast while you are doing it, the intensity of focus is high and going 2x as fast is hard to imagine. I think I've gone over 100 kph by what it felt like but never measured myself at that speed.
This is fabulous. I’ve never skied the hahnenkamm but it brings back such fond memories of my ski racing years back in the 80s. I was cheering the whole way! I had a pair of 210cm Rossi 3G’s I used for super-g. Closest I came to a true downhill event. Thanks for this video!
This is amazing. Hope to see it in cross-country skiing one day soon.
As a fellow who has spent waaay more time on X-C skis than even bunny hills, this was great fun to watch. I have looked at downhill slopes....looked only...and I understand this: the average non-skier has no real sense of how steep those slopes really are. “No way anyone can ski down that.” But they do.
And that's absolutely crazy. TV coverage would benefit by placing more cameras where the viewer can get a sense of what you're talking about. Ratings would definitely increase. p.s. Can someone here explain the yellow flags that dot the course? They seem like obstacles.
I believe you are talking about the "Gates". The skiers have to go through them. They cut very close to some of them to get the fastest line.
i did that run when i was younger , ...it took me 20 minutes ,...haha !
Sensational thanks a million for posting! 160 kms is very very impressive even more so are the turns and the jumps.....I would love to ski this piste having skied many other classics but I have heard that it is the most difficult especially towards to top on the first jump.
Longest 2 minutes of skiing ! 👍👌
That’s skill and guts!! God, to be able to do that!
Wow....absolutely the first incredible view in my LIFE! I've always played ski games and skied Kitz but have never ever ever saw it from the actual perspective and in 360? Wow thanks!
Fantastic 360 degree feature - Awesome.
Pity not in HD but still excellent! 👍
That's weird, just watched it again and it IS in full HD.
Sorry, my mistake!! 👍👍
Woah, what a great view - and yet so totally misleading. I know the Streif from real (whole length) and I am VERY sure I wouldn't even get to the Mausefalle alive in downhill mode but would disintegrate into the RB banner not making that first lefthander. Through the camera though it looks as if there is no problem. Mausefalle (0:09), 35 meter jump, piece of cake - Karussell/U-Turn (0:17), eeeeeasy - Steilhang (0:24), like a family slope - Brueckenschuss (0:33) - Gschoess (0:43) - Alte Schneise (0:56) all with closed eyes - Seidlalm (1:08), another 35 meter jump, waving to the boys 'n Girls sitting there - Laerchenschuss (1:18), time for admiring the landscape - Oberhausberg (1:36), short before falling asleep - Hausberg/Hausbergkante (1:42), once more 35 meter of flying just for fun - Traverse (1:50) - Zielhang (1:56), yes well - Zielsprung (2:03), ok this 70 meter (yesterday's run) jump was worth doing it. That is so mindboggingly crazy - everybody who survives this stunt is an absolute hero.
Watching this race on TV, the steep faces and jumps seem like the scary parts. But from this angle, it’s being able to withstand the compression. Especially those near a fence!
Top Vid. This again gave me the feeling that i had in the young year’s when i a was racing on skis. it was a cool time.
Sweeeeet ride ! I remember those crazy days.
Watching on tv? LOL!
@@murd777 Nope....running my 220 cm Dynamic VR 70's with aluminum sidewalls.
@@rds990 in a race?
Extremely cool. Almost perfect.
OMG I had no idea of the real speed involved!!!
but the speed is exaggerated by the wide view camera angle, if they shot with camera that better mimics human eye we would get a more realistic sense of speed
Excellent video. Shame the fisheye lens makes it look like a green run (which it definitely isn’t!)
This is a 360 video so you can zoom into a more normal view.
For some reason I've got the urge to visit my local Audi dealership
No need, they don’t sell skis!
Don’t as they are endless money pits.
Subliminal wasn't it......
That was scary. Nicely done!
Loved this. Got to experience what is was like skiing along like that. Now I know why people do it!
Wow that's amazing 😨 thanks for sharing
Thank you for this Mr. Baker. I was there last year and skied parts of the course but this video experience is an amazing gift!
Ok ready now !! Gonna beat that run by 2 tenths of a second !! Then have a beer
Very cool video! Thanks for sharing...
Great Video! Love it!
Speed there is wrong! Max speed in Kitzbuehel is around 145 km/h in the lower part of the course just after traverse. They never go 140 km/h on Alpweg, which is pretty flat and the speed there is reduced to below 100 km/h. And the entry turn to Steilhang is also well below 100 km/h.
That was badass. Never been on skis
His heart rate went from 76 to 140 BPM in 58 seconds. These people are machines.
And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is how you live vicariously through someone else's need for speed.
WOW, that's some fast skiing!!!😳
but wide angle camera enhanced the sense of speed, they should have shot it with lens that mimics human eye better
Bravo à tous ceux qui fonds cette descente de coupe du monde en partant du sommet ...et encore plus pour “ le Vainqueur “
Balls of steel.
Looks...unreal... :)
Amazing Video David thank you!
I'll stick to the Bunny hill. Then drinks in the Lounge.
the care personel in Austrian hospitals is often cute and tempting, though. give it a try!
Why??? when you can go up and do it all again...over and over and over...
@@gbsailing9436 That's easy for you to say. You didn't see what happened to me after the last time I tried the intermediate hill. LOL

Fantastic 🤩😍
Scary as hell!
Jesus....what a speed!
I used to do DH and KL when I was young, I lived near the Saslong in Val Gardena. I still use DH skis, Rossignol 218 R50 custom made, even after I had an ACL 2 years ago ..
Страху натерпелся, как будто сам ехал. Жутковато. Супер.
He was almost going 100 miles a hour!
Crazy... as I rotate my iPad side to side, up and down, I get the full view. Didn’t know you could do that with a UA-cam.
That was a workout!
I am now even more disappointed Salzburg didn't get to host the 2010 Winter Olympics.
I think i could take that slope on my plastic sledge from Woolworths though. Little run up then jump on upright position job done. Kitzbuhel watch out.. 🙂
in VR absolutely cool!

Ist das das Downhill Tennen auf der Streif…? Super und Toll…! Ich vermisse Kitzbühel und das Kitzbühler Horn sehr…!
Rennen… Entschuldigt den Schreibfehler bitte…!
Man I'd love the chance to ski that exact run as fast as I can with a proper aerodynamic suit. Not to try and win a race; just as a personal challenge. Same reason I've rappelled off cliffs, jumped out of planes, scuba'd, etc.
I know what breaking 130kph feels like because I've done that at radared events. But, those speeds have been on recreational shaped skis and wearing baggy powder shells and pants. In fact, by coincidence, I was just radared at 117 kph (73MPH) last week just messing around with buddies. We wanted to make sure we can all still ski faster than our age--I'll be 65 this weekend.
After seeing this, I'm convinced I could keep it together on that course at close to 150. I really hope I can somehow make that happen before I get old... :-D
I have a Canadian Ski Team downhill suit if you really want one. Circa 2015.
This is a great video, but still quite difficult to understand how steep it actually is, it looks quite harmless here.
Try looking backwards. I think it may seem less sleepy when you watch the snow vapour trail 😆
I have skied this dozens of times; One of the scariest runs I know. it is so icy all the way down. I can do it in 4 mins 45 seconds. (Don't forget that there are loads of people on the piste).
I had a constipation before watching this video. Im fine now
Very cool but the KPH indicator is completely wrong pretty much all the time.

That is AWESOME! thanks
No cow bell......???
Asterix hätte nebenbei noch Blumen geflückt. .. insane Speed
160km/hr with your feet stuck to two narrow planks. More testicular fortitude than I could ever muster.
lmao
As always, changing the perspective to look rearwards makes speed all the more apparent.
Imagine the day when everyone can watch this view live using their phone. It's coming with 5G.
@@DavidBaker_WindfieldMedia VR goggles or video projected onto glasses connected to your phone. Individual media consumption is my hope for the future, with better (lighter) equipment maybe the need for large televisions can finally die.
My brain thought I did not make the first turn and I fell down with a 3600 degree rotation
That's sick!👍
The shown kph are way too high for such a slow ride. I think this was the ORF camera rider. Top speed in Kitzbühel is at the final straight and is about 130kph.
More like 150kph on the Zielsprung
Insane! Crossed the line at ~157kph!
Damn cool. And I though I skied fast..lol.
LOL, 14 seconds more than the time of last year's winner :)
Yes this was a practice run. Our speed was for example only as this was a media presentation to demonstrate the future of how fans will view racing in 360 degrees… coming in the near future.
Reminds me of my snow boarding days
I know well trained people have bigger volume per heartbeat and lower heartrate at rest (40-50) but it is impossible that their heartrate when starting is raising so slow - after the first 15-20 seconds it must be well over 100 and after about 40-50 seconds near maximum around 160-190 in pulse.
When i was young (1994) and very well trained (170Hb) i was in Hahnenkamm and tried to ski the same slope and it took me almost 15 minutes (with 3 brief pauses for everyone to gather) and i probably had 120-150 in pulse almost all the way except when we paused. It is partly a really steep slope.
I was sitting in my chair leaning left and right, forward an back.
I showed up with my ronco ski's. They said nope.
Man , I gotta ski on a landfill. I spend more time in the lift line than skiing.
1. I found the gate placements odd - sometimes inside the line, outside the line, or straddling the line. I kept expecting "us" to hit them, especially on the left side.
2. The frame rate needs to be much higher - it just didn't seem as fast as it should , and I'm a slow skier.
3. Amazing that cameras are small and light enough that they don't seem to interfere with performance.
Try watching this with the trailing camera view (pointed up the hill) for a better sense of the speed and just how steep this is.
I don't know what all the fuss is about? Looks pretty straight forward to me.
Yup. At 20 kph it's a piece of cake... if you are a good skier. :)
This was amazing until I got bored
I would have crashed multiple times because I would not have made most of those turns, they were very sharp. Although I would not have survived after one or two of those crashes.
Jesus, that's fast for a car
WoooHooo!!!! That was badass!!!!
The speed is overestimated , but holy shit!
Hi Andrea. Yes the speed is overestimated for this run. Please see the video description and it will explain what we are doing. Hopefully we will bring this view to many sports, LIVE, right to your cellphone.
Been on this run bits of it and it’s big time scary even at my slow speed and many turns, lol
Big deal, I can do this in my sleep. Of course, that's the only place I can do it, because if I tried it in real life I'd be dead in about 20 seconds.
I'm the one who taught the guy how to ski
Nice. But, what the hell is Aubi?
About 100 mph for countries that do normal math.
