When I make vinyl bags I buy a clear shower curtain from the dollar store (preferably Family Dollar). It's thick enough and always holds up perfectly.

While using a Plastic Shower curtain is a great way to save a little $$...depending on what you're going to use the Plastic or if you want to make these for several people in the family, Walmart has the Clear Plastic by the YARD. Walmart (Jo-Ann's has it too) has 1 or 2 different thicknesses as well

The dollar store (any of them) or the grocery store usually have the clear plastic table cloths. They are very durable I’m sure they will work for this project.

An easy way to “press” vinyl is to run your iron on your pressing surface to get it warm, then lay the vinyl on the warm area and use your hand to “press” the wrinkles out. Works perfectly!

Another tip for working with vinyl is to use washi or masking/painting tape to tape down a bit of the edge to the cutting mat, which will help hold it still while cutting. Great tutorial!

I always love your live videos - even though I don't often catch them live. I do have a comment on how you are squaring up - especially for those beginners out there. When you are cutting your right side your ruler is completely on he fabric and the part exposed to the blade is cutting into only the scrap. You should turn your fabric to cut the opposite side. When you move your ruler to the opposite edge you are now cutting with your project exposed to the blade, rather than the scrap - a little whoops with the blade and your project could be ruined - or made smaller. Also - especially when cutting a quilted piece like this - your ruler isn't sitting flat - part is on the quilt, part on the table - again it's easier to slip when you do it that way.
I can't wait to make a few of these - at least my UFOS will look cute while they're waiting to be finished!

I was thinking about using it with pillow covers, too. I’m making some pillows right now and I always use the two pieces in the back that fold over each other but it’s so bulky. A zipper makes so much more sense! I hope they expand the line with more colors, lengths and even cute patterns!

Cindy Wendt, It might not be a good idea on the vinyl side as all that stitching may perforate the vinyl so much that it may tear off. But for the other side of the zip, it would look so pretty.

Have you tried making the cosmetic bag? I tried one but wanted to keep the lining separate so the edges were enclosed. I guess the extra width at the zipper caused the lining to attach to the casing and caused a pleated area inside. It’s hard to explain but I don’t think they will work for a finished on the inside type of lining.

Use a hot iron on your ironing board just to heat the surface. Then, lay your piece of vinyl down on the hot surface. It will soften up your vinyl and allow you to smooth out any wrinkles. It's also a great way to soften up your vinyl on a pouch that needs to be turned right sides out. Less struggling with it when the vinyl is more pliable.

I'm reviewing this tutorial again now that I have time to make some bags. I dislike 505 spray because of the smell, but there are a number of other sprays that have little to no odor (eg from Amazon). Would it not make sense to quilt one whole piece of fabric(with backing and batting) for both the back and top piece at the same time? Then just trim off the piece needed for the top section. Cheers and thanks for the great pattern and instructions! 🇨🇦🍁
