I don’t know why this film wasn’t a bigger hit, Travolta was on a roll with Saturday Night Fever and Grease and this film made Gilley’s a huge tourist attraction for years after. Along with Blow-Out this is his most underrated film
It was a huge box office hit in 1980. I'm not sure why you think it wasn't a hit. It played in theaters throughout the entire summer of 1980. The soundtrack album was huge. It may not have won a lot of awards, but it definitely raked in the bucks that summer.
I am old enough to remember when this was new. This movie was HUGE. Fashion in the early 80's was bombarded with cowboy clothes due to the popularity of this film.
@@englishandcompositionlearn6745Not really. It's not even ranked as a top 10 movie for Travolta. Although I believe it was his best. Country didn't hit mainstream until ten years later
This was all around nearby my neighborhood growing up! Seeing all of these familiar sites on the big screen was truly a thrill! And yes, the puddles from potholes were that deep and like a small pond after a good rain!
@@brandy012173you got a point. Maybe that's Pasadena, TX women. I've seen some of them take verbal abuse, have black eyes, busted jaws, and getting beat the hell out of them in parking lots yet they still stand by their "man". Notice the parenthesis please. As a Pasadena, TX man, I don't see ANY of that as an example of being a man.
For those railing on about "Texas and the South", Travolta was born in New Jersey, Winger in Ohio, and the director was a gay man born in Arkansas in 1936. I'm sure they all can combine their talents to accurately display the southern way of life, particularly south Texas oilfield country.
No, that's not the typical people in Pasadena, Texas. I really felt like it was all very inaccurate to say the least. Not everyone is THAT hickey and ignorant. Barry Corbin was probably the most accurate, as he was born in Lamesa, TX in 1936.
I think Travolta’s character was from rural Texas and he moved to the cosmopolitan city of Houston so Travolta was “ hickey” living in an urban setting. Perhaps Sissy was originally from rural Texas who moved to Houston? but the movie doesn’t say.
Haha, I just leave her alone and go on to let her know that she and whatever mind games and other nonsense she's up to aren't worth it. It's hilarious to see her get pissed and try to act so hurt and upset that I didn't give her the satisfaction of giving into her drama and playing her mind games. One of my ex-girlfriends tried that crap with me and then tried to act hurt and then tried guilt-tripping me about not giving into it and I laughed at her for being so pathetic and immature.

Idk about y'all, but Debra Winger (Sissy) is stunning in this movie. Even the simplest look she gives at 2:06 she is gorgeous. What a woman. Great movie too! :)
It took years to own a truck exactly like he's and it goes to car shows every weekend and wins a great deal.... Its siged by Micky Guilly and Johnny Lee on the dashboard. John has looked at it as well and tried to buy it. But it gets spoiled to death. We've a few pictures of him in it. Over the years. And its been a great truck... ❤

Debra Winger and Travolta killed it in this movie
After rolling in the mud ... you wanna get married?
Especially after getting hit by the man. Sounds like love to me.

The best movie producers will always interview locals if a movie is geography based. So your comment is dumb
Best proposal ever!!!!!

Karen Frances Counts no way they would mess up this perfect movie
No.
I agree Heck maybe even a series.
Me too
They messed up Saturday Night Fever with the movie “ Staying Alive” which was a dud so it’s better they don’t but they could do a remake.
I think more than a few of us have seen this in one variation or another in real life.
