The only exception is when “replica” or “counterfeit” or some other verbiage is CLEARLY identified ON THE PRODUCT, not in the description. Whenever I see a RAW high end card that I may be interested in, I always ALWAYS ask the Seller 2 questions. The first is if the card is a counterfeit, and the second is te history of the card ie., how and where did he get it. I do this for obbvious reeasons, but the alterir goal is have documentation in what the Seller says bout the card, which goes a lpng way if the card is a fake and u cab show what was said to you by the Seller. Of course, I am extremely nice, friendly, and I don't just straight ask those questions, but rather say something along the lines of ".... I'm very interested in buying this, but it's tough to see details on a computer scan, so as stupid as this may sound, is the card authentic to the best of your knowledge? Also, if you do not mind me asking, but how did you acquire the card? I ask this because many cards are gotten thru Breaks and raffles, and there are some Scam Beakers that I stay away from, so just want to make sure this card did not originate from certain people."

Scary times were entering in the hobby. Ive seen older/vintage cards being faked for years, but always dreaded the day when the counterfeit industry reached modern cards... which it looks like it has. At the moment as detailed in your video there are many clear discrepancies upon a closer glance between the fake and authentic cards, but a couple years down the line I can see it being nearly impossible to differentiate between a real and fake card, even at the professional grading level, let alone someone just buying cards online or at a card show. Don't know how they will combat this problem but the card industry definitely needs to act sooner rather than later.
We had a gold tlaw downtown come thru at a card show. The Immediate giveaway was that the holo bleeds thru the player and the background where it should be printed on top of.
Crazy how many people are willing to scam people. Be careful when purchasing cards because Iv noticed that their are so many fakes out now. Same thing happened to me on Mercari and Mercari did not help me at all.
You do realize that while Mercari isn’t backing you up, you have PLENTY of legal recourse. The statute of limitations on fraud is not 15 days. You can take the seller to small claims court, and if you already have their information…address, name, etc…you’re already half way home. You might even be able to have them brought up on criminal charges for fraud through the mail.
Sadly I don't have their name and address I have the old post service tracking number but it doesn't have their information on it. I'd love to give this another go and see what I can do to get that money back though. Do you think that's enough to go off of?

I like the fun of flipping and I like the hustle of modern cards, but you're right the high pop count and print count is a little scary. Problem I have with Vintage though is I can't ever find one raw in a good condition. I also don't have the eye for it. Like I can't tell what would be a PSA 7 vs a PSA 5. Easier to tell a PSA 10 from a PSA 8@@TheCardFanatic
Bro I completely get it, it def happens. Btw I did not mean to sound like I know I all obv I don't or arrogant when I said idk how u wouldn't know. Poor word choice, and to clarify what I was saying was the seller knew it was fake idk how he wouldn't it would be, extremely unlikely to say the least. I mean of you'd done business for years stuff always on point and bam a one off and then making it right. That scenario, could happen and I'd believe everyone makes mistakes but he did not seem to follow thru with honor. He didn't provide the level of service or security that he himself woild more than likely expect or demand which who wouldn't ya know. Thru the years and having wins losses and Fups, those mistakes get the experience. It's just repetition. You'll get there. Just try to consistently learn about different sets and this little by little and throughout time soak it in like a sponge through what ultimately becomes a numbers game. "More experience comes from one experiencing more experiences and through these experiences the One can become many and then earn true experience. just enjoy the experience, be humbled and time you wield expertise." A.D. Snow, philosopher, samurai, or drunken sailor for all o know but paraphrasing.. either way I think the point was u got to go out and live if u want to live or u cannot truly live if that makes any sense.i was always more a visual and through practice in learning anything versus instruction. I def dont or would pretend to know everything about cards but I've been around it a bit and picked up a thing or two and had a couple people help me along the way fig I'd pay it back by paying it forward. I hope it goes back to the all-around long haul mindset or mentality like before the pandemic, and tho for a couple years before there was def gaining momentum but the last few years it's been a greedfest sucking all the fun from cards. It sucks bec at the heart and soul of trading cards, what links to people is the nostalgia, the art, and that little piece of cardboard can link you to the past or couldbbe a physical representation of a time or experience or possibly even take u back to childhood. Even for a min.. the darkness of world I think many need it. But the sch needs a mentality change and I hope the rat racing greedfest doesn't ruin cards when a few years ago it was in a nearly perfect place. You will get there but esp of doing it for the right reasons and enjoy it ya know. To many people popped in like trading cards wasa get rich quick scheme lol which was both very funny and very sad bec at the end the hobby ends up paying the cost overall. IMHO atleast. Not that I did or said much but try vintage out a bit grab a 20-30 buxk card from your local shop here and there bec surely they will be able to tell a real card or they ahouodn be buying and selling raw cards for a living. Doing this will do two things for u, 1. It will give u what raw vintage cards in diff sets look, feel like, and yea esp really old prewar smell like. This will give u the confidence and knowledge to buy more and even online if u feel confortable yourself in doing that, the platform, and seller. And 2. With 20 to 30 bucks a few times a month for old rae cards you'll build a solid relationship with your local shop, and at that price point overtime you'll be surprised what it builds to as far as collection. Meaning for twenty bucks it's probably something worth having versus it may or may not for a random dollar box vintage card. It's a pretty cheap expence that gives u a solid PC and the comfort & knowhow tohit something besides modern or ultra modern. Again buddy I find myself appolgizing for rambling off a novel

Im sorry you got duped, mate. Fake cards are a pest in general. Even people selling them as 'proxy' aren't in the clear, for they should realise someone else will sell em as genuine. Its sad, but true.
Yeah it was a tough lesson to learn but glad I learned it
Whenever I see a RAW high end card that I may be interested in, I always ALWAYS ask the Seller 2 questions.
Yeah that’s super good advice, I’m totally gonna do that from now on.
People like that are ruined in the hobby. Makes you not want to buy a card unless it's graded by a reputable company. Thanks for the information.

THANK YOU for this video. Sorry for your loss, but your good deed will have karmic debt on your side 10 fold 🙏
Thanks!! It was an expensive lesson to learn...
Yeah for real! That's why I think cards like this need to be serial numbered. That's at least one way they could combat it
There's ALWAYS been fakes. A lot of those those older/vintage cards you are talking about were counterfeited when they were "modern".
We had a gold tlaw downtown come thru at a card show. The Immediate giveaway was that the holo bleeds thru the player and the background where it should be printed on top of.
Oh dang that's crazy! I'd love to see a picture of that if you had one!

Crazy how many people are willing to scam people. Be careful when purchasing cards because Iv noticed that their are so many fakes out now. Same thing happened to me on Mercari and Mercari did not help me at all.
Are you serious? Man! What card did this happen with for you?
It was a Patrick mahomes auto. That I later found on Etsy for like 20 $ lol

This is a great comment! I've only been doing this for about a year so I've got a lot to learn. I want to get some vintage for sure.
I like this video but I am very curious as to why your Mercari says that you blocked the seller? It doesn’t say the seller blocked you when you clicked the follow button.
Hey there! Thanks for watching. Great question. So I did block this seller because I was worried he would buy my stuff and leave bad reviews. Hey guys, definitely not lying or trying to be deceiving in anyway. As I pointed out in another comment it is actually possible Mercari blocked him for me because of my reaching out to Mercari, that thought hadn't occurred to me, however I highly doubt that seeing how he stopped responding to any of my messages long before that. I've also had several people in this video comment they have encountered this same seller selling fake items, and others have pointed out fake Pokemon items. The bottom line is this, if this seller had wanted to make it right, he would have. He clearly had no problem not trying to give me any money back or make it right in anyway, whether or not it was him who blocked me, or Mercari. I feel still convicted he blocked me though.
Also, go and look at the listing your self on his page, you can see clearly it is the same fake card on his page, and as I pointed out in the video the card is 100% a fake.
Bummer!!!
I know man I feel so dumb lol
I sell raw cards on eBay. I would give you your money back if it was proven fake.
He is lying go watch the video again look closely when he tries to follow it clearly says he is blocking them not the other way around he was never ghosted.
@@stylescooper4899 and that literally has nothing to do with what I said idiot
Glad to know there are honest people out there! Yeah big bummer for sure
You’re first mistake was buying on Mercari. It seems like 70% of their post are scams now a days unfortunately.
What was my second mistake? Haha 😅
lol ebay is the same thing. so many fakes on there. gotta be careful. if the price is too good to be true... usually is
Man sportscaster buying down hill quick, sad.
I don't totally follow what you mean, but yeah gonna be hard to make that $350 back with a chopped-in-half counterfeit card lol
He is lying go watch the video again look closely when he tries to follow it clearly says he is blocking them not the other way around he was never ghosted
Yeah, not sure what has set you off here man, really not lying in any way. And I for sure was ghosted even before any of the blocking happened. He hadn't responded to my last several messages that went through
It’s less silver
For sure, I think you might be right
I could tell it was fake from looking at it.
You've got a better eye than me!!
You pronounce Donruss weirdly.
Ha! What's the right way to say it??
He is lying go watch the video again look closely when he tries to follow it clearly says he is blocking them not the other way around he was never ghosted
Not trying to be rude to you but has a flipper at first glance you can see the foil is off then you can see more things wrong with a better look
Totally man - not rude at all, I'm pretty new to this so just learning. Anything you want to callout wrong with the card is great.
Your first mistake was wasting your money on modern. Your second mistake was wasting money on modern football.
I've done pretty well on modern football when buying and selling quarterbacks, but it is a riskier and less reliable market. What kinds of cards are you investing in?
John over here has made some great 5 percent returns on his 1984 topps John elway over the past 2 years
@@DanielsonSportsCards i dont "invest" in cards. I collect them.
@@volcanicfreshair 2 years?😂😂I've collected for over 30 years and seen 2 booms, late 90s and covid, with 2 down decades in between them. All you noobs are about to find out what down prices really are. Great time to be a collector, not so much if you're only concerned with flipping.
@@johnwayne9828 that’s makes sense, important to differentiate between the too. I’m much less of a PC guy and really more trying to turn a profit- but having fun while doing it and not taking it too seriously. I respect the PC though that’s the core of the hobby. I do want to try and get into some vintage though, I’ve been looking at vintage shops and such just haven’t found the right card that’s in good enough condition
