I spent 2 hours trying to remember the name of this game. I remember going to the Arcade in my city and playing it when I was little, I knew all the shortcuts. how nostalgic
Man… I spent 2 weeks… I don’t know why google is become dumb or maybe there are lack of informations about arcade racing games, I just literally searched “dope arcade racing game with a fuckin alien”
I still vividly remember playing this game as a kid, at a Kid’s Quest in Ameristar Casino back in 2003. I would choose the corvette every time, and it was a bit of a wait to get on the machine cause of how popular it was. Such good times :D
There was a laser tag place near my home called Laser Quest that had 2 Cruis’n Exotica arcade machines in the lobby. And unfortunately, they went bankrupt for the united states in september 2020 because of covid. But at least they still exist in the United Kingdom which is where they originally came from.
Okay it just occurred to me; why on EARTH did they make the unlockable/prize car *this* one (called “Zephyr”) INSTEAD of that other yellow sports car/yellow McLaren F1 that we see with the other racers/racer drones in the levels (called “Formula 2” in the N64 version)? I mean, don’t get me wrong; this car is awesome and all, too; but *WHY* didn’t they just make that one the unlockable/prize car instead? Wouldn’t that make more sense or whatever (especially since that’s kinda how it normally works or whatever in games like this)? What exactly is going on here or whatever? What do you think? Do you have any ideas, or?
I think Midway choose the Zephyr over the McLaren F1 in Exotica because the Zephyr is based on the Shelby Series 1, a pretty exotic roadster when it was produced in 1998/1999. Midway was going for "exotic" cars and locations in Cruis'n Exotica and while the McLaren F1 is exotic, the car can be unlockable in the N64 port of Cruis'n World under the name "Speed Demon". That could be a reason why they chose the Zephyr as the unlockable car in the arcade version. I should point out that the N64 port of Cruis'n World was released in 1998 while the arcade version of Cruis'n Exotica was released in 1999 and the N64 port of Exotica came out a year later in 2000. By the way, the Zephyr in the arcade version can be selectable without unlocking, all I did was disable the keypad/PIN system in the game's service menu so I don't have to create a PIN to race and earn 10,000 Miles to unlock the car. The keypad/PIN system does work, I just don't use it since the game that has yet to be 100% emulated in MAME.
Yeah, IIRC no one is exactly sure now the upgraded hardware in Exotica works, it’s similar to Cruis’n USA and World but the differences that are there make it very hard to work with. I think the earlier games required a ton of work to decompile the graphics rendering code and use that to reverse engineer the graphics chips operation, then rewrite MAME to work with it. But it took years to get them working, and since Exotica is the only game to use this configuration it might take even longer. But the graphics have definitely improved since MAME 0.220, so someone is working on it.
@@justanotheryoutubechannel the Zeus 2 chip runs at a higher resolution than base Zeus 1 (MK4) does, but the algorithm for both is notorious for being convoluted to crack. Nicola Salmoria mentioned it somewhere. The Grid is *slightly* more playable by comparison but it's unlikely both games will ever work at 100%.
@@RafaelGgama87 i solved this! Try to find mame “packs” or “bundles” with Exotica included. You’ll get a lot of games you don’t want, but Exotica will have all the necessary files

Core memory.

ahh, kids quest. my parents, too, enjoyed gambling so i spent many hours there in my day
CRUUUUISIN! YEAHHHHH! That theme brings back memories!!
When I was a kid, my mum would do laundry at a laundromat that had an arcade machine with this game on it and I always played the hong kong map.
You drive on the desolate planet Mars in outer space with music meant for a underwater society. That's Cruis'n for ya, crazy music, crazier worlds 😅
Hopefully the graphics keep improving
I had this on Nintendo 64, probably the funniest racing game I've ever played.
Used to tell my friends that this games was the most crazy shit I ever played! Seems like I'll never be able to play again. At least not correctly.
you can find some cabs in public still, or on FBMP. They are very cheap.

Went to a nearby arcade to play this had so much fun haha
Ah..the best of times...
Love this game

Imagine wearing a pink bikini to MARS
Or Cruis'n World: The Expansion Kit!
On one of the courses the animals poop on your car!
Space my favorite one
Man, MAME really has trouble with this one, lol

There is no update graphic
for crusin again
There has to be some kind of useful emulator, which I don't think but maybe in the future the game will be fixed, just saying.
@@alayorira9464 like I said before, this is the closest it will be for this game's emulation.
@@aaronswitzer2423 The game is a bit well fixed, but it needs a lot of fixes, I like it.
@@alayorira9464 there's no problem with it also but for them to expect it to be at 100% as far as graphics is concerned, I doubt it.
Looks like mame isn't fully emulating it well
Why does it glitch so much?
The emulator doesn't fixed this game to render the graphics correctly.
I'm gonna guess that you are a Sagittarius.
How did you find a rom that worked? I keep getting 472_cruisn_exot_27 error no matter which rom I try
i have the same problem
