One thing that sticks with people from this show are the quotes from all the characters over the course of the show. Right off the bat with episode 1, my guy Bunk with the famous “happy now bitch?” “Giving a fuck when its not your turn to give a fuck.” And a very underrated quote, “got to man. This America.” Thats been my reply to so many people over the decades.

Very true. I’m currently on episode six on patron. And the way every single line and every single scene are building blocks to the story so far is so impressive. no dialogue or scene is wasted
For my money it's better than the Sopranos. This is as real as you're gonna get on TV. The dudes who wrote this were Baltimore crime reporters for 17 years. Many of the actors were from the very projects in Baltimore the show is about. Most importantly, unlike the Sopranos, this show ended only 1 season after it was suppose to. Clearly 'Final Grades' was meant to be the last episode, and they went to season 5 for money.... Okay. The Sopranos went 2-3 seasons too long, just like GoT. In the TV world there is a level of success that actually degrades the story, because everyone is making too much money.
Nothing about the wire or the sopranos are underrated they are usually in the top 5-10 shows all time. Oz is HBO’S underrated masterpiece. It’s also the first show that they did.
Years ago I ordered a book from Amazon that was a collection of British reviewers breaking down why they thought it was the greatest TV show of all time.
The characters are so real! The show is written by David Simon, who used to be a crime reporter in Baltimore. He interviewed tons of people from cops to folks in the drug trade. The Wire is the culmination of a life’s work and it shows. Brilliant TV, I’m so glad you’re covering it!
Ed Burns, the co-creator/writer worked on the police force and turned and turned into teaching, also in Baltimore. Much of the cast and most extras also from the city.
My uncle was a detective who consulted on this show. The dude they cast as the light skinned detective with the mustache who works homicide looks exactly like him lol.
Oh shit. You're already doing Lasso, and now you're watching what is, without question, my favorite TV series of all-time? Legend. I genuinely believe this is the greatest show in TV history, and for me, it's not even close. I've watched this so many times it's wild.
This show is amazing! It took me a few tries to get into it but once I did I was shook by how good it was. One of the things I was impressed by was when I realised the actor who plays McNulty is actually an incredibly posh english guy, went to Eton and lives in an actual castle in Ireland… his character is literally the furthest thing from his reality and he plays it SO WELL. But everyone else in the show is equally amazing, the characters are so developed, performances are amazing and the script and plot are just *chefs kiss*.
Young man, you are in for a helluva ride. I'm old enough to be your gramma and truth be told, this is the greatest series I've ever seen. I'm sure the other comments here are from people who've seen it many times. We all have. Enjoy.
This is a very special show, one that actually got me reevaluating a lot of what i thought i knew. Glad you're enjoying this so far, because, without spoiling, the show gets a lot better still. Think of rhe seasons like slow burns, where usually the first half of the season is setting up the stage, and the second half just ramps up . It's just a special show in all respects.

it's a lil sad that there aren't as many The Wire reactors on yt tho, but who's your favorite? i've seen a few i loved, but iffy on others so i'll take any recs i may have missed of reactors!
Y'all realize the crazy run of amazing TV shows HBO had in this era? And what's even crazier is they were all created by someone named David: David Simon- The Wire David Chase - The Sopranos David Milch- Deadwood David Benioff- Game Of Thrones David E. Kelley- Big Little Lies Larry David- Curb Your Enthusiasm
One of, if not the best, TV shows. I remember watching a story of Dominic West's (McNulty) first scene they ever shot. It was the snotboogie scene. He's british and had so much trouble saying Snotboogie in an American accent they had to do it over and over and over and over. David Simon, the creator, was a beat reporter at the Baltimore Sun for a decade or something. So he really knew the city and the crime. It puts such an honest and true shine on the city (from what I've read from people, I'm not from Baltimore).
McNulty is BRITISH?!!!👁️👄👁️ No freaking way! His accent is so convincing. Haha thanks for sharing the snotboogie story I see. Always good when creator genuinely know the story they are trying to tell
