It's so awful and unforgivable how Poland was abandoned by Britain to appease Starlin. The Polish people did so much for us.

Sadly, Churchill had little option when the War ended. Whilst we still had an effective Army, Navy and Airforce, the UK was on it's knees in all other respects and at Yalta was outmaneuvered by Roosevelt as well as Stalin.
However I do agree that denying the Poles their rightful place in the Victory Parade was a shameful act of appeasement to Stalin.

Lucky you weren't the Prime Minister at the time. How many more millions would you have sent to their death? Britain and France were broken at the end of the war and you would have had us declare war on the Russians. What a joke.

@@PaddyThePole Please tell me what I said that was wrong? Do you think the western allies should have declared war on Russia? Anyway Churchill was always the most pro Polish of the allies. Roosevelt ignored his efforts at Yalta to support a democratic Poland in favour of siding with Stalin in return for a promise of help against Japan.

You owe just a memory. It is honestly surprising to me as polish living in uk for so long that majority of people don’t know anything about Squadron 303 and other important events from ww2 where Poland was involved like cracking enigma code, Warsaw uprising or how much Poland sacrificed and lost in the past for greater good, that our country was „reset” and it took years to recover from both invaders and catch up with others on many grounds. Poland was a battlefield. And if anyone is interested they can look online for numbers showing the difference and also how polish people were treated afterwards ( not saying people in general but there were some important incidents caused by individuals). And i am not saying this to take any credit as i was not there nor other poles living now and also not saying we are the only one who fought, but i am just annoyed sometimes when we polish people not only in UK but in other countries too are pictured as drunk uneducated kurwa swearing people just because they have seen some individuals. Other countries also have people like that and it doesn’t mean everyone is the same.

Sosabowski who was one of the pioneers of paratroop forces in Europe and a lot of his experience was used to train your paratroopers ended up as warehouse worker moving boxes from one place to another. Maczek had to become a barman. Cryptologists, intelligence officers who worked for the British throughout the war (and were responsible for supplying British with intelligence on the Germans, btw 3/4 of all intelligence reports from the continent came from Polish source) were given training for equally crappy jobs in the Polish resettlement corps. Lets reverse the situation. Do you think that Poles would go and fight for liberation of some country on the other side of the world? Why they should do that?
In the same sense, why do you think Americans or Brits should fight for liberation of Poland from the Soviets after the war? How would general command rationalize this to the people of USA, or British command rationalize this suicidal role? Going after Russia was impossible in that time. You need to have the laverage to force someone to do something, and the Russian army was massive. The war was over. There was no more killing. There was occupation, thats right. And that was a shame. But I dont think you can expect some other people on the other side of the world to fight for your freedom, as you would not expect Poles to go and fight for Indians in the USA, or for some African or South American country.
      Talking as a Pole.

@@creepPOL I'm not calling them 'petty liars', so don't put words into my mouth. That is disingenuous of you. If you know about the Battle of Britain, then you would know that overclaiming occurred on both sides. From the ridiculous claims for Stukas on 16th and 18th August 1940 by Fighter Command squadrons, to the claims of having shot down 51 RAF aircraft in a single day by the Luftwaffe unit Zerstörergeschwader 26. All units overclaimed - that's fact of life in aerial combats such as took place in the summer of 1940 when large formations of defending fighters took on large formations of attacking Luftwaffe bombers and fighters. With over 40 years of research and writing about that period, I would suggest I know more about the Battle of Britain than you will ever know, so I suggest you get hold of modern works on the subject and improve your knowledge considerably. Try 'The Battle of Britain Combat Archive' by Simon Parry, published by Red Kite Publications, for starters, a series that I am a main contributor to. Get Stephen Bungay's 'The most dangerous enemy' also, which is an excellent work on the Battle. Then come back when you know what you are talking about, OK? The nerve of some people...

Same with tanks, Navy and artillery. It's because until 1918 there was no Poland and this year marked it's return to the map, so all in all the interim period of 20 years before the two wars was a relatively short one. Poland was just starting to develop when it got hit again and Hitler needed a quick victory which is always attainable when you attack the weaker opponent first. However, there were certain opportunities for the Polish army to take an advantage of and take the fight to Germans but due to a series of really bad decisions made by the government and military figure heads it was what it was...

There is some bitter 'Brit bashing' going on with some of the comments, which seems to be 'par for the course' - where is the bond of loyalty between old comrades?

All that work for nothing. Poland still wasn't free after 1945. It's disappointing and heart breaking. These people put so much effort to win the war and got nothing back in return. We shall never forget the beave Polish piolets and also all the others piolets coming from all over Europe to save Britain, changing the course of history forever. ❤️🇵🇱

Getr real. Overseas pilots made up one in five of Fighter Command pilots in the Battle of Britain. Britain won the Battle of Britain by a country mile. That 20% did not make the didfference between victory and defeat.

This video made me upset beyond belief. Why no word about how badly Britain treated the Polish pilots at war's end? These brave men were literally kicked out of Britain to face the stifling and sometimes brutal treatment by Stalin in their native homeland. That glossing over of this despicable chapter in British war history by the Imperial War Museum has forced me to rescind my subscription to this channel. Bad form, Imperial War Museum, bad form indeed.

How could Poland fight at the same time against two of the biggest military powers of the time, Germany and Soviet Union. Even if they had the best airplanes there were no chances to beat both of them. France and Great Britain were supposed to enter the war when Poland was attacked, but they didn't.

Had Germany and France provided actual physical support, this might have dissuaded the Soviets from attacking in mid-September. the war might have ended much sooner, and with far less death and destruction, even for Britain and France.

Poland and England were allies in the war. But only Poland was a true and loyal ally of Great Britain in this unequal relationship. Britain, on the other hand, abandoned Poland twice: in 1939 and 1945. Great Britain did not even invite Poland to the great victory parade after the war. The Polish pilots were just onlookers.
