- Hi Everyone, thanks for joining me for this tutorial when I was trying to troubleshoot my "melty cells" problem in June. I decided to share this video because of the learnings I can pass along. I discuss the problem, define the problem, discuss possible causes and ultimately think I determined the true root cause.
Thank you all subscribers, new and the frequent fliers. If you're not subscribed, please hit the bell and ‘all’, give a thumbs up, watch the video and leave comment. You need to do this to have your subscription 'stick' otherwise UA-cam will delete the subscription after a few hours. It's free and helps my channel.
I present succinct videos showing my latest, what I've learned, provide tips, often with some philosophy. I usually share about three per week and trying different things along the way... as those who've been with me well know! Coasters, canvas, trays, Clocks, check out the playlists!

This is gorgeous! The problem is getting better, I am sure you will figure it out!
Thanks Deborah, 🩵💙and I have!!
I admire your ability to have patience enough to figure these things out. I don't have much patience & my mind doesn't think about the why's of things. I'm so glad yours does. In the end, whatever the problem was, this sire came out nice. The colors are beautiful & your swipe is very pleasing to the eye. Great job again. Thanks for sharing, Louise!
Thanks Anita and my brain is wired to trouble shoot and problem solve being Military Police in the Army and a Quality Manager in manufacturing. Glad to be of service💕

Louise I am going back looking for some of your first videos...I love this one so much!! Thanks as always 😊❤
Thank YOU 😘Jude, I’m hoping that what I’m showing you is helping you out. I really appreciate going back and look at some of the archives, throwback Sunday I guess lol have a great rest of the weekend.!
@@LouiseMcKayArt Hey, when and where can I find your first video on UA-cam? I would love to see it...😉😊
Very good info in here. I’ve heard that JoSonja can cause the lacing to sink into the colors but I wouldn’t have thought that it would be different from the same batch of PM, but it makes sense. Learn something new everyday!
Thanks August, 💕just my conclusions and remember my PM was near the bottom of my container so I suspected I may not have consistently mixed it well enuf too!
Really interesting Louise and great to keep these videos for reference isn’t it. I love your composition today. Just gorgeous. ❤
Thanks so much Marie-Louise💕, yes YT began for me as a video repository since my phone couldn’t hold them all the videos !!!
Such good thinking Louise! My phone is limited and the gig sticks only last so long. Looking back now at what I did a few months ago I’ve learned so much. I love how you experiment. It’s very encouraging and we all have our own interpretation. I can see you want to get it right ❤
I love this!!
Thank you Pamela, be well!😘
Great thinking there Louise...taking Shellie's class in Vegas, I now understand why they changed the formula for the blooms...no more Behr 8300 and JoSonja....Personally my first bloom in probably a year was at Pourcon so I haven't had any problems...but her newest PM was great as far as I could tell in Vegas....I just bought it, maybe we can play a bit when you get here...boy the playlist gets larger and larger🤣
I’m up for playing 😉and we’ll need to set a time for the 10th, this Sunday!
Is it Sunday already...Oh my! You let me know a good time...I can either cook Italian or we can order in...I'll figure it out!!!@@LouiseMcKayArt
Louise doll Thanks so much for this and all your fabulous beautiful tutorials Thanks for your time, expenses and creativity Your blooms are amazing and I love US Floetrol CA as well and your recipe is 😻… I will be watching you all day and will try to leave more comments dear The best of luck and health on the New Year hun ❤❤❤ Will be sharing this fantastic informative video on facebook ❤ Milly Vilches
See Milly 😘😘so sweet of you for all of this. Glad to see you back!!!!These ‘lessons’ are my sole observations from my experience during my summer bout with melting cells. I try to be as informative and transparent to hopefully help others…and a few have mentioned having similar experiences. I appreciate all your support my friend😘
XOXOXO@@LouiseMcKayArt
Interesting that you've also had this problem - I also did in June and July. My Behr/Josonja mix was the exact same as always. All is working now and in my case, my base paint was too thin.
Hmm and thanks 💕Cheryl for your time and input! Weird huh. Problem solving is often a challenge!
It clicked when you said that your cells started going wonky at the bottom of your pm mix. I was also at the bottom of my quart of pm when cells started going south. I think your right, the varnish has sunk yo the bottom and thus screws up the cells.
Thanks Jodi, yeah, it made sense since I was suddenly having problems and that seemed to be the culprit as I got lower in the PM. Haven’t had a problem since!
Beautiful Louise❤. I’ve had the same issue with melty cells….I believe it’s too much varnish!
Yes, Shelli 💕in the end that’s my conclusion too!
🧡🧡🧡
Wow, Jerelyn😘, I really appreciate you going back to see all these different tutorials hopefully seeing my development as I go to your advantage
@@LouiseMcKayArt I've been binge watching!!! Lol Great content!!
I really appreciate that and hope you find all these tutorials helpful. When I shared this video over the summer, I was really frustrated with myself that were melting, something I’ve never experienced before!
Okay Louise this was awesome thank you so much for sharing, I have a dilemma maybe you can help me figure it out my cell activator my black when I blow dry my Bloom out before it barely starts moving my cell activator is constantly flocculating breaking apart just the black I don't blow it out too far but I'm getting broken lines I am using the tri-art Mars black black with Australian floetrol 321 and more often times than not I am getting horrible paint breakage I had switched over to Bear 3300 which is the semi-gloss instead of the high gloss and the polycrylic I know my Glidden PPG multi-pro I have had nothing but issues with that lately always millions of bubbles that don't want to pop that is for my pillow so struggle after struggle I wonder if the pillow is reacting to the other paint to make it flatulate I figured if anybody would know it would be you awesome work my friend
Thank you Andrea and I commiserate with your problem. I also have had problems lately with Multi-pro being bubblicious so I just let it sit and don’t even stir it before pouring. I don’t thing the pillow could be affecting the CA.
I have no experience with Tri-Art. So your CA is 3 parts paint to 1 part Floetrol? My first guess would be your CA is too thin but if you’re 3:1 paint: Floetrol I doubt that.
Do you use other colors for CA and if so do you have the same problem? If not I would wager it’s a problem with the black and would suggest try thickening it up even more.
I have the understanding that when using TLPs you have to use tube paints to keep the structure of your cells. I think you need 1 tube per TLP. That is my understanding. It’s something I learned from Lisa Marvin. It has to do with the density of the paint versus the mica or pigment
Thanks so much Melissa 💕 and yes, I’ve learned that in the meantime! Always learning and adding TLP to my repertoire does create more learning opportunities!
@@LouiseMcKayArt so glad I could help.
@@LouiseMcKayArt try using a binder with your TLPs. You may not have to use any tube paints with them. Pebeo has a binder that works great.
@@melissahatfield4773 wow, thank you for the tips! 😘
@@LouiseMcKayArt no problem. It’s something I’ve been discovering myself. I love pigments and am finding new ways to use them in different applications.
Hi Louise🎉 As usual, I greatly appreciate you sharing your knowledge, I do believe that I have rhe same issue with Behr8300 + josonja. Since I still have 2 gallon of the Behr8300, would you have any suggestions for me moving on? BTW, your test pièce and clock is a success❤
Hi Debbie, and thank you. I find the Behr 8300 and Minwax semi-gloss varnish works good or the gloss varnish, I actually alternate between the two truth be told but since the 8300 is high gloss, you might do better with just semi gloss varnish with it. Also, I use Valspar, 833124 for my pouring medium as well. So Valspar plus the Minwax works great for me. I wouldn’t get rid of the 8300, just figure out a way to incorporate it.
@@LouiseMcKayArt Thank you so much for your support !
I believe I am having a jo sonya problem as well, I mixed a bunch of pigments and added the varnish (squirt) and have great results but then as it dries well cells melt and or disappear. Did you find a way to rescue the pigments that you had already mixed? Don't normally add the j.s. varnish but found it on sale.
Thank you, Janice honestly, I don’t remember it. It was over a year ago. I think what was happening was my pouring Medium wasn’t fully mixed as I got to the bottom of the container and I am suspecting, I probably had too much varnish in it. I don’t think I lost any paints. I usually work in very small batches.
