I could not grow Phragmepediums until I watched one of your UA-cam's on self-watering pots. I finally got my lone Phragmepedium survivor into a self watering pot and I now have my first blooms ever. My Zygonisia is thriving in a terrestrial medium.
Hi Danny, amazing video as always thank you! Great to watch with my morning coffee. :). I am impressed with how you remember ALL the names of your orchids and the fact that you can identify that specific Oncidium among all your Oncidiums, (or Phal, or Cat), ... especially when they are not in bloom.. 🤯.
Wow Danni! Gorgeous...goals! I'm currently "on a porch" and will be moving inside for winter. I don't feel so bad knowing your humble beginnings and I hope some day I can get my greenhouse/solarium built. For now, it's grow lights and shelves, and trial and error as well as learning from you! I feel soooo good knowing you've taught me so much already..rehabbing/growing Oncidiums with NO ROOTS and they're now growing roots because I keep them constantly moist in sphagnum! Thank you, thank you. I've had orchids bloom for me and they're sick rehabs and new growth...I'm feeling so much more confident than I did in the past. Winter may be a challenge but I'm going to go into it prepared. Thank you again...your place is so lovely and I can only hope to be where you are in a few years! 🌱💚💚💚
All your orchids are gorgeous, lovely and beautiful. Love the grow room and terrace and your orchids seem to love where they are. Can't wait see all the spikes in bloom and what a show they will be. Thank you for taking me on the tour enjoyed every bit of it. Have a great and wonderful day.
Danny, your grow room is beautiful, so many different varieties of orchids. I think I would spend most of the time there! I have the Lavender Kiss in mind has three new growths on it. I hope she will give me some blooms soon! Thanks for the tour! 😍
Thank you so much miss Danny about your little update about your trichopilia suavis 😄😄 in my conclusion is it's not a notorious cool grower and it can do just fine in an intermediate place like I have for my phalaenopsis. It answered my questions. So once again, thanks 😁 I actually grabbed breakfast and watch you video hahahaha 😅😅
Danny. Enjoy your videos so much. I was looking on Seattle Orchids website and they have a black zygosepescalum. I know you love black flowers. The lip is really dark, dark purple but the rest of the flower looked black. Maybe you already have one but seeing it, I thought you'd like it. Ty for the great videos, I enjoy them so much.
First, I would like to say your tutorials are amazing you’re so knowledgeable on orchids and plants and you know all the names is awesome. So question my mother in law phalaenopsis orchids that she has for 8 years has not bloom not one time. I’ve helped her repotting fresh bark, leaves are healthy and growing roots are healthy too. Pot sits on a nightstand in front of the window. I own 6 orchids taking care of them they are doing well. Hasn’t be a year yet so excited for next year to see them bloom. I did order premium Gold AAA for Phalaenopsis so I can repot the 6 I have and my mother in law to see if maybe they need good nutrition for it to grow.
Stoooop, my orchid wishlist grows with every video you put out, now you're making me want to set up a dedicated room lol, seriously though keep up the great vids!
In between all my orchids, the epidendrum veitchii and the Bartley Schwartz are the first to die. The more I love them, and keep buying them, the sooner they die...
For orchids like your Angraecum magdalenae, it is theorized that some plants get an iridescent blue on the leaves because of specialized cells. Alot of these plants that appear blue, are often growing and thriving in dense shade, and the cells that make it appear blue are for maximizing as much skylight as possible through the tree canopies. I've seen pictures of ferns like this as well. :)
Thank you Danny, I am just getting back into the orchids and you have been so helpful. Long video but I appreciate it Thank You for sharing your knowledge with all of us
I’ve ordered a big chunk of my collection from Seattle orchids 😊. They’re actually not in Seattle Washington anymore….they moved to Oregon which is where I am so shipping is super fast lol. Eventually I will drive down there to visit in person. I’m about 4 hours away. But their packing is always great so I don’t mind just ordering online
I Danny I enjoyed your video I love your oncidium where I live in the USA I dont get oncidium and many more plants at flower shops. Keep up to good work
Wow Danny! I would say that my variegated Oncidium type is SUPER VIGOROUS. I have had to repot twice in 1 year. And the way its going right now, I might have to repot again by Spring.
Great tour! Too bad about filming on the terrace, I’d love to see what your whole terrace looks like, but I understand about not filming the neighbors. Plus I want to see what you consider untidy, probably nowhere near most houses I see in the US. Can we get a overall pic of the green house? I’d love to see the whole room with everything green.
Thank you for the Cymbidium update! I’ve been wondering how they’re doing for months. Do you have room out on the terrace for a Grammatophyllum? They’re monsters, but I think you’d enjoy one.
I am very excited above my orchid that has bloomed. If it's a cattleyawhich is dark magenta pink and white and initially when it bloomed it didn't have a scent but as time has progressed it has an amazing scent. And this is the first time I've had Cattleya bloom? I've had dendrobium blooms and Phalenopsis but never a Cattleya. This Cat is about 4-5 years old. I have two Vanda that have never bloomed. I am so amazed.
Aw I was eager to see all your bigger vandas and your terrace... too bad you couldn't film. Maybe some time when your neighbours are not out? 😊 Also I personally don't mind at all some wind nor the noises your birds make :) so please don't talk down on your birds like on naughty children haha they are birds I don't think they care or understand what you're saying :D I actually like when they sing :)) and I think people usually understands that, so no need to be sorry :))
Hello Danny, nope no ID so far since I bought it mislabelled and me never daring to buy another/true Zygo to compare structures side by side (it's hard and misleading with pictures only). So I'm very much looking forward to your guess😅 Random fact: did you know that Shelob is the name of a monstrous spider from one of Tolkien's books, how fitting and I have this one too - perfect name, joy to grow! 🥰
MissOrchidGirl Sure am☺️ Just not commenting very often. During the last month's we thoroughly renovated an old house we bought so I was barely online and now I'm just happy the most of my orchids survived the move and the not ready for new setup-situation... But I still very much enjoy your videos and will surely stick around😁
ThNk you for sharing. You are right. Every month would be too often but every 3-4 month would be cool! I never be bothered by your long video anyways. I totally forgot about that Seattle Orchid Aliceara! I have it too and I am from the same area so I used to go there pretty often (now moved to different state 😞) Anyway, I was surprised by where your neos are... I was thinking too bright there? But what do I know... I never bloomed mine yet so.... I knew you had lots of cattleya types but I didn’t know you had that many oncidium types now.
My oncidium finished blooming, I cut the spikes and now from the 1 cut spike she has 2 more spikes emerging 😳 I am not complaining. She is healthy and happy, but talk about a glitch 😂
Sorry if I ask Danny, but can you tell me the name of the blooming phal near the Phragmipedium Ainsworthii? I think I've just bought a very similar one from my local flowershop and it smells amazing! Thank you!
Your orchids are so healthy and beautiful .I want to try and grow orchid , friend gave a phla. Hope I don't kill it .your. Video is very helpful. By the way , do you also sell your orchids or keep them as a hobby. They are very beautiful. Thanks for all your information
If you keep all your plants inside wouldn't that protect them from all pest. I'm hoping so. Thank you for your very informative videos and for sharing your beautiful plants and birds to o. So cute.
I have a question. My Phalaenopsis I got a year ago, I don’t know if it’s doing well or not. It used to have several really healthy aerial roots and it bloomed from a short branch on an old flower spike this spring. When I learned that I should repot it, I did and the roots were all gross because it was potted completely in sphagnum moss. I potted it in bark in a slotted pot and removed the old flower spikes. Then the aerial roots became shriveled. After a month I decided maybe it wasn’t getting enough water so I added a loose ball of sphagnum moss just under the base so it could get more water. I left it for almost a month but the aerial roots all cracked and are still shriveled so I checked root growth and there wasn’t much and what was there didn’t look great so I removed the moss ball. I just don’t know what I’m doing right or wrong! Even though it just bloomed this spring and it doesn’t have many roots, it is growing flower spikes again! What do I do?
Cut off the flower spikes to save energy for the plant to grow roots. Cut off really bad roots if they are rotten, try to save some. Put the plant in (if you have a few roots) or on top of ( no roots) moist sphagnum moss and baby them until they grow roots long enough to sustain the plant in regular medium. That was my take on what Danni told us.
I have a Yang Yang blueberry, and it looks completely different every time it blooms, different patterns and variations of shades to the point that it looks like different plants. Right now it’s mostly white with pinkish purple markings. I have had it not quite a year and it’s 5 blooms in my possession are so different. Love the smell as well but am wondering if the look of the flowers changes for others or is mine an anomaly?
Hi Danny. Could you please give us some tips how do you manage to water so many orchids and how long does it take! I have got about 180 and last time took me 3 days to soak them and spray them with your antibugs spray. I mean just normal watering 🤷. Thank you in advance!
@@MissOrchidGirl I have a reluctant son who has babysat my orchids but I may have to think about a dripper system for them in the future. Then I wont have to hear the complaints :-)

I am a relative newbie to orchids. All of mine came from Trader Joe’s. They have been ok and 2 have actually bloomed !! I recently repotted because I had never done it after blooming. They are now all leaning. I know they’re reaching for the sun, but they weren’t leaning this much. I’m concerned they will break. Suggestions?? Thanks
Hi, decomposition processes are not complete in an orchid pot due to lack of many micro organisms. Dead roots would transform to nutrients in a compost pile without a problem, but in an orchid pot they will lower ph and leach toxic byproducts to orchids, such as nitrites and other chemical compounds. These byproducts are not utilized and transformed into nutrients in lack of these organisms, so they accumulate and damage everything in the pot.

When your orchids grow towards the white wall why can't you just turn the plant or does that upset them too much.
