Jim and Chris each make the other watch a lesser-watched Hammer horror flick from the 1970s. The Vampire Lovers adapts the vampire story Carmilla, which precedes Dracula by over 2 decades. Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter is a swashbuckling adventure film with a dose of gothic imagery. But are either actually good?

I have a vampire living in my basement and I haven't figured out how to kill it, but now I got some good ideas.

I was 14, it was a rainy Saturday in the fall and Captain Kronos came on tv. My nerdy comic book loving self instantly fell in love with everything about this movie. To this day it holds a special place in my still nerdy heart.

I love Ingrid Pitt! She was too old to really play Carmilla, but she was certainly game for the nudity and so beautiful. I met her at a convention in the early nineties where she was signing photos. When I approached her no one else was at her table and I got to talk to her for a bit. I don’t really collect autographs, but back then a signed photo was only five bucks so I bought one to support her. I picked out a nice head shot to buy, but she insisted I get a photo of her topless in a tub(a scene from this movie). She was flirtatious and funny and tried to make me blush (I was in my 40s but looked to be in my 20s). She told me she owed her success in movies to “Tom and Jerry” and while saying this she cupped her breasts. She also talked about her autobiography she was writing and mentioned it would touch on her surviving her time in a concentration camp and her interest in WW2 military aviation.

I was thinking during this that a crossover between Captain Kronos and Blade could work quite well. But ultimately, it would be nifty if Marvel could take Blade in this direction, with various types of vampires that Blade has to figure out how to defeat. It would probably make a good TV show.

As far as comics go, I know there was a 4-issue Captain Kronos mini-series Titan Comics put out in 2017. W. Dan Abnett, A. Tom Mandrake.

Hammer Films are wonderful. I didn't know Chris was into old horror movies too, but I should've assumed. Instant subscribe. The Vampire Lovers is one of my favorites, it's like someone made a movie based entirely on a hammer trope checklist, because it has everything cranked up to 11

Part of why Jim and I do this show is that we’re both big fans of all types of horror movies.

A scene that does make a lot of sense but in a way does for the movie Joe Bob Briggs calls this movie logic or dream logic

"I danced on a Sunday" would be a much frowned-upon confession to the ears of "Good, God-Fearing" people of years-past.
Its almost exactly the line from the famous hymn/folk-song: "Lord of The Dance":
" I danced on the Sabbath
    And I cured the lame;
    The holy people
    Said it was a shame.
    They whipped and they stripped
And they hung me on high,
    And they left me there
    On a Cross to die.
Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he. "
Strong stuff, i think youll agree - and people say Hip-Hop is violent.

This was a really fun episode! I'm a more casual hammer horror fan, ive only seen some Dracula/Frankenstein flicks but i do love vampires and the Carmilla inspired one was fascinating to learn about. I really thought Captian Kronos was going to be about time travelling vampires but honestly both movies look great and your energy is so fun. Excited for what comes next!

Good work on this episode, Guys. Hammer Horror holds a place - Special, or... Otherwise - in every True Englishmans Heart.
    I, personally, really like them.
People talk about the films being rated "good"/"bad"/ or plainly "ugly", based upon the date of release. (Viz: they dropped the most shockingly bad, campy ones, at the end of their reign). I dont know enough to know exactly which years were the Golden-Age of Hammer - but we all know which are the biggest-and-best flicks they put out, which equates to the same.
Looking forward to the next one!
    Take it Easy Guys.

@@ProsAndConsLivethere is a really cool Hammer flick named "The Witches", from 1966. Its a "Pastoral-Horror" (pat. pending), in the same way that The Wicker Man takes place in a seemingly idyllic English setting. Its a good one that you might wanna check out one day.
Im watching this Trash Movies Bonanza episode thru for the second-time now. You guys have definitely hit the pitch you were going for: an easy, light-hearted conversation, between friends. Its good "comfort" listening whilst im working and messing-about. Keeps the spirits light. 👻
Keep up the Good Work boys 😊

Caroline Munro has a movie club programme on Talking Pictures, a TV channel here in the UK. (Caroline Munro's Cellar Club). Late at night she introduces and gives commentary and trivia on the classic horror films she shows (some of which she's in). Usually 2 or 3 movies at a time, with her introduction and commentary between them. She must be well into her 70's now, but she doesn't look it. She's aged pretty well. Maddy Smith, I know what you mean, she's beautiful and her face carries a sort of innocence about her, but she's not the greatest actress, particularly in this era. Most of her career was with Hammer or doing Carry On, films and their ilk. Saucy humour that doesn't require good acting as much as a willingness to go topless and be objectified......but man what an object!!! NB. I heard an interview with her once, where she told how when she made Vampire Lovers, she was still a virgin. Plucked from obscurity working in a Boutique on the Kings Road, quite young and had no formal acting experience.

Chris, awesome video! But please be aware, whenever you refer to Carla please don't use the G term, as it is an ethnic slur for the Romani people. Thank you and i look forward to more episodes in the future!
