This video details my experience of extending my retwist for 6 months, a view of how my new growth is flourishing, and some pros and cons of extending my retwist.

The density, fullness and thickness of locs with lots of new growth has my heart
I made a year last month. I retwist my hair every 3 months idc how it looks or where i have to go. My days of being a slave to my hair is gone. I wash 2-3 weeks, separate, oil and moisturize them. That’s it! #freedom

I retwist my locs every 3 months. I don’t like that fresh look of retwist locs. I prefer the messy look to be honest

EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN ROUTINE FOR THEIR HAIR😌 I BELIEVE IF YOU KEEP IT MOISTURIZED, CONDITIONED, AND CLEAN, THEN I SEE NO PROBLEM😀

It really took me a while to love the no retwist look of my locs instead of wearing them when they’re freshly retwisted. I’m 4 years in, and I’m really starting to love the no retwist look and I usually retwist once a month, but I’m considering of going longer 😍
Not retwisting doesn’t mean you don’t wash your hair.... you still maintained the health and the cleanliness of your hair...
This 6 months for me as well. Also the longest ive gone without a retwist and i been loc’d a lil over two years! I agree with you on the braidouts, thats my go-to!!!
Im 2 years no retwist and all I do is separate with my fingers after a wash . Then go. I don’t Plan on ever retwisting again . I just separate but hopefully one day I decide to let it become natty and free form .
I’m currently at a year and half and counting. So you can say I transitioned to semi freeforming and I’ve enjoyed it. Wish I did it sooner. However I do separate my locs often.
Pros: fullness, unique and low maintenance
Cons: had some thinning roots; very few (so I combined them by putting one loc through the other, worked great)
Thank you so much for sharing Beautiful!! I love how you found it easier to maintain!! I know your locs are gorgeous!! I too found myself separating them often. But I wonder what may have caused your roots to thin during that time.
The thinning roots could actually be from not retwisting. It could just be that some of the hairs that were originally in the loc, made their way into a different loc, which means less hair is in that original loc, and so the root starts to become thinner.

Honestly, I forgot to retwist mine.🤷🏾♀️ 😂 I did wash, separate, and rod sets my Locs. Plus, I look like a wet cat with a retwist-I need that superhero feel. ❤
I am at 3 months no retwist. I was so stressed and depressed about having to wash and retwist my hair. So I went from 4 weeks to 3 months cold turkey.
The reason I didn’t want to touch it was because the roots matting and marrying. I started the loc journey because I hated the detangling and wash days.
But The longer I waited the more I knew the roots were bad. They don’t look that bad right now. But I know once I hop in the shower and wash it, all that new growth is gonna matt tf UPP 😭 I’m keeping the clippers on stand by just in case 😫

Thankful I stumbled on your video. I’ll be a year on the 30th. Just got my first professional retwist for my birthday, and knew I wanted to go the semi-freeform route out the gate. I love the fuller look. I go 3 months no retwist, and that’s just perfect for me. Any longer, would stress me out. Yours are gorgeous. I’m grateful that I got to go through most of my rough stage in quarantine, but I think I would have fared well. I feel like I have a bit more edge with my locs. More confidence. It’s been an interesting journey with my 40 babies so far. Folks like you make me proud to be apart of this community even more. Rock on.

That’s a good amount of time to grow more hair and maintain the consistency of your locs without manipulating them. Also, the hair won’t stick together as much within that timeframe so I completely understand. I just know your locs are beautiful!! 😍🥰 40 locs!! I’m imagining them being thick!! I love thick locs!! Wooow your locs are beautifully gorgeous ✌️♥️🥰....l am 14month locd, and normally retwist every 3month but wants to go extra month and I am in my 5month with No retwist and I love love everything about it, I'm Soo happy I made this decision and my husband is my Number 1fan.....♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Will try and go 8 or 9 before I will retwist, the truth is I really don't like seeing my scalp at all.

I'm planning on getting my locs and part of me was wondering how often i would retwist. I have dandruff and am probably gonna have to wash more often, and i don't think I want to interlock cuz i want my locs to be fuller as they mature and for them to look cylindrical. But I also didn't want to retwist it every week, so I thought maybe once a season, but I wasnt' sure how it would look.
But seeing your hair makes me think I'll be fine. Seeing all that new growth, being able to still do my hair and seeing the drastic change every time I'd retwist makes me excited. I didn't want to be wary of my hair like when it's straigthend (no excess sweating or swimming because unraveling), so i was worried how i'd manage because i want to be more active and i love swimming, but now I'm even more excited to start, but it wont be for a while.

I’ll be three months soon and have been doing a regular retwist. I wont lie I haven’t given myself the chance to experiment with stretching it out, but I think I actually would try it to see how my hair does. But I do know I wanna get a fresh retwist + style for my birthday and afterwards experiment again. Gotta look fresh for the birthday now lol.

I just made 6 months and as much as I love how my new growth and how thick they’ve gotten, NEVER AGAIN 🤣. I was so close to cutting them off because they were stuck together 🤣🤣
😭😂😂😂😆👏🏾 I completely understand the struggle!! I said that I wouldn’t go past 4 months and it’s been another 5 months!! 🤦🏽♀️ Time is flying! It wasn’t intentional to go that long again, I’ve just been super busy. I get my next retwist in two weeks. I’ve kept my hair washed and separated but I know I’m still going to have to do more separating before the retwist!! I’m not looking forward to that part!!

Hi the longest I have ever went without retwist was 2 months or so But now I am gonna shoot for 4 months or so cant wait to see the result. My hair was popping off because I was not keeping it moisturized but I am keeping it done now so to let it get stonger last retwist was about three weeks ago shooting for first week of july for next retwist for my birthday :)
It’ll be 6 months no retwist for me next month. I honestly love the journey my hair is so much fuller and healthier. I just keep them clean and separated and moisturize ❤️❤️❤️ your locs are sooooo beautiful and long! How long have you been growing them?

I have went 9 weeks, this time I’m going to go for 3 months to see how it works out
My last self retwist was about 7-8mo ago and loctician one 3mo before that.
I’m with you though, it’s time 😂😂 3-4mo seems to be my limit too

Brooo I haven’t retweeted my locs in almost 2 yrs I wish my roots grew to this length this fast… and you and I are the same hair texture too!!! Like if you saw it you’d think i haven’t retwisted in a month.

I tried going more than a month no retwist and i cant do it. My hair gets too tangled and it's too much work to fix up. I go 3 weeks max without a retwist. But I love being free to wash without worrying about my retwist coming undone. I also love being creative with my styling
tbh when i get a retwist i don't like the look i like when my hair is frizzy

I don't retwist often I just did the front only . It's long and tiresome so I might Free form

what happens if i been retwisting my hair since i started my journey but then i want to stop retwisting and just let it grow
If you stop retwisting, your locs will have the opportunity to semi-free form. That means they’ll start sticking together in the sections they naturally gravitate towards and form their own collective sections.

I’m not tender headed but when I have to pull them apart after sticking together for a while, my scalp reacts differently from normal!! 😆😆
