  • HOW TO FIX A BAD WATERCOLOR PAINTING (or at least have fun trying)
In this video I want to show you how to fix a bad watercolor painting. Not all painting days are good ones, but bad paintings are an inevitable part of the process. Let’s see how you can fix those watercolor paintings… or at least enjoy trying!
And you might want to watch this video next - it has more ideas about WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HATE YOUR PAINTING • Watercolor problems - ...
Actually, I first want to say that there is no such thing as a bad painting - these things are entirely subjective. You can chalk that ‘bad’ painting up to a warm up if you like, and I almost did that today. But I always think there is a lot to be learned by having a go at fixing what you don’t like. The paper is already expended, right? May as well keep going till the paper gives up!
I am going to show you both paintings I created in this session. The one that went rather horribly and the one that went a little better. WIn some, lose some. 😬

I loved both of them. I've seen the spray bottle be someone's best friend but also someone's worst enemy, lol. You pulled it off in the end.

Hello Kerrie, I think both paintings actually look quite good. I agree with the statement "there is no such thing as a bad painting". This video is probably really important for me because a lot of the time I make mistakes I just give up and start again... I should at least try and fix it.
I like the addition of the face cam too!

Hello! 🙋‍♀️Thank you so much (the face cam nearly stopped me from publishing this video altogether 😝so I really appreciate hearing that!) I think you are right - giving up and starting over can feel quite disheartening. I like to think of it as more free play rather than trying to 'fix' it. Even saying that it needs 'fixing' can make you feel bleak when really good and bad is so subjective.

The title of the painting is special. I see the harmony of different colors in your painting. The sky, reminiscent of the sunset, is very impressive and the coastal area feels like it’s turned red with sunset. Your second painting illustrates the typical beach well. Honestly, the first painting of you is more impressive. Both paintings are excellent. 3

Thank you Jay! You know, I think I agree - I ended up liking the sunset one more in the end too. I think that once you think you have messed it up, you relax a bit because there is nothing to lose. And I think being relaxed makes the best paintings. 🤗

ah very interesting! thanks for showing us how to make unforgiving watercolor a little more forgiving! You can't even tell that red color was at the bottom originally!

A great look at ways you can turn things around when things aren't going to plan with a painting. I really like both of your paintings here Kerrie. More lovely outdoor veach scenes 😍💜🙂

I really like the first one too Kerrie. I look at it and can definitely see what it is. Yes we all go through times where we hate our own art and think it hasn't turned out. Love it all Kerrie! 😍🙌
