I agree! I was looking specifically for wet in wet, and came across Liron. I don’t think I’ve ever found a better instructor for the basics! I’ve been doing a course on Udemy that covers this exact thing, but jumps right in to creating a fairly complex painting for beginners. I completed the first course, which was all wet on dry, and I somehow figured it out. But the wet in wet has been so overwhelming that I’ve gotten frustrated and stopped trying. I’m actually a decent acrylic painter, but watercolor takes practice. Love these videos!
Wow, seriously! I just picked up watercolor and have been so confused and overwhelmed. Not being sure if the issues are my technique, the paint, the brush, etc. Now I finally feel like Im starting to understand. Thank you!
I am new to your channel & in my 40s. I would describe myself as a complete novice, with only about a year working with watercolors. Although frustrating in the beginning, I love watercolors (& all types of art modalities). With all your videos, I figure, it will likely take me the rest of my life to go through all your teachings. What a wonderful wealth of knowledge you have. I thank you sir, from the bottom of my heart, for sharing such helpful information 🙏🏼
I think,if you work every day,it would not take you a lifetime to learn.Just do it with passion and joy( which I think you already have ). Best of luck,my dear, and a lot of courage! You already entered in a wonderful Univers, called Watercolour painting!👍🌹
WHAT??!!! “…feeding the bead!!” Why have I never heard anyone else explain this? I live in a very very dry climate and struggle tremendously with the flat wash. I’ve never been able to maintain that elusive bead. I can’t wait to try this “feeding the bead” technique. Thank you so much for all the invaluable content you share, Liron. I have learned more from you than ANY other artist I’ve ever followed. You are my art hero…❤ 💪🏻❤
Liron, Thank you very much for this explanation. Artists on youtube, doing portraits seem to just dab color all over, then never explain what the are doing. A little blue here, some sienna here then all of a sudden the wash is smooth and blended and with depth and we have trouble understanding how it was done. This is an excellent video. Thank you.
The Bead!!!! I've watched and followed many beginner tutorials, and heard about the bead, but I really didn't get it's importance until I saw your video. I think I'm going to binge watch everything you've uploaded :)
I'm a beginner in everything in arts .... i'm starting to paint with watercolors. I've seen at least 50 videos, and yours are the most informative, relaxed, giving great advice, practical advice !! mental advice !! and you don't to small talking (which I hate in 15 minutes videos). I'll be watching all of your videos for sure. This is just my #3.
This is an amazing technique that I can't wait to try! From an architectural watercolorist, thank you for this! I've been searching for a method like this to give me a consistent wash on my structures.
Great lesson because what frustrates me is how uneven and blotchy my things look. I really want to learn to paint an object with a very consistent look to the color (say, as I like gouache usually does--even and flat). This tutorial really helps. I like your videos and happy I know of a place online I can visit for expert help. Thank you, Liron!
I'm not used to watercolors, but I was looking for a way to tone paper before my colored pencil drawings and I think this technique is perfect. Thank you!
You are an excellent teacher! Thank you for sharing your techniques & skills! I am improving sooo much by practicing the basic techniques - amazing! SKILL=talent= practice=talent=practice=talent=work=practice 😁👍
Hi Liron, I’ve been painting for a few years now and struggle with flat even washes over large areas. I now have the answer on how to achieve this. Finally, thank you 🙌
I don't have sepia on my palette. When I want or need it I just mix a touch of ultramarine with raw umber. When painting with browns I usually mix three puddles... a sepia for one puddle then my ersatz sepia plus a little burnt sienna for a van dyke brown for the second puddle and burnt sienna plus raw umber for burnt umber. Raw umber is for me a far more useful color than sepia. For each his own. That's one of the great things about being different people and the existence of so many colors. There's something for everyone. Right? Riiiight! The tough thing about getting a large even wash is when the wash is interrupted by or has to be painted around objects...i.e..roofs, chimneys or smoke stacks, girders, cranes or other equipment etc. Not as easy then. Got any suggestions Liron? I'm trying to work my way through your vids. Oy! So many! You are one prolific dude. ✒✏📘🎨🎤🎧
Hello Liron, and thank you for this video. I have struggled with my washes, but after watching this and following your advice, I begin to get some really good results. It's so motivating, thank you!
This was great!!!! Thank you for the tips! I love that you added the “roof tops” and showed us how to guide paint that is “stuck”. Your tips are amazing and the issues you address are so real!
Another great lesson that is very helpful to me. Thank you, Liron, for this fantastic instruction. As always, much appreciated, my friend.😊👏🏽💕You are extremely talented and have God-given gifts.
Hi Liron, I’m very grateful this gem of a video appeared. I’ve been taught differently but now I can see why your washes are so successful. I’m keen to try this technique for myself....Thank you!
This looks beautiful, and I will try it😊. And I like your paintings very much! Besides, I love both: traditional painting and painting on the iPad 😊. Greetings from Germany
Very clear explanation and demonstration. I've always struggled with producing a smooth wash, but looking back it was due to too little paint. My puddles were too small. I'm going to try this exercise. Practice is a bit like shampoo - rinse and repeat :-)
Thank you Liron! Your awesome videos are always right in time for me, I get a problem with enough water in my paintings). By the way, your speed of speaking increased incredibly for today but I still understand you well, it's amazing and cute!
I'm glad you did this tutorial. I have issues with not getting washes even. It's okay when it's the sky and even water but with other things it isn't. Thanks!!!
Hi Liron, I just watched your video on your Beginner’s Drawing Course. Thank you for making it so affordable (i.e. cheap!) .... so, of course, I signed up. I am really looking forward to many hours of fun! ... so now I should subscribe ... thanks again!
Awesome, thank you and welcome aboard! 😊🙏🏼 Don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything. And I hope you enjoy the channel too 😉
Thanks for adding the info about Sepia being part Ivory black - I didn't know that. Also a great tip to go back to basics whenever you're feeling stuck.
This is absolutely fantastic love your explanations on each video Exclusive ❤️ You definitely give us more courage to make an even wash of course we must all practice daily to achieve the perfection 👍 🇨🇦 Thanks
After saw how you do this “constant” bead of “pigmented paint” it was like I see it now! However; when did tech for first time & had very “wet brush & light pigment” down to clear water but couldn’t keep the bead all the way from left side to right side? One thing noticed feel must use a very light touch with the brush or can’t see the bead. Correct? Tyvm!
Hi Liron! When you paint do you always keep your sketchbook or paper at an angle? That seems to be the only way I can get this to work. Makes sense if you are at home or using an easel, but when you are out doing urban sketching do you also make sure to keep it propped up? And how vertical do you position it?
That's a great observation (: It's always easier to produce an even wash with the paper at an angle, as it helps the water bead. When painting outside I have the sketchbook on my lap, and it does have an angle. Sometimes you have to kind of cross your legs to get it to work. The real challenge is when sitting at a cafe or something similar, and having the sketchbook on the table. In that case I'll usually put something under it, to create a small angle. It's better than nothing (: EDIT: for me around 20 degrees works best, but it's really a personal choice.
Best teacher ever!
Ove Rotstedt Thank you! 😁 This was really fun to record, I'm happy it helps!
Im glad I postponed my shower to watch this...... an incredibly simple but oh so important skill to have. Thank you, Liron.

Thank you so much 😊🙏🏼

Yes very important ☑️

+Alan Snider Haha that's true 😁 More water is usually the solution for uneven washes 👌🏼😊

Liron Yanconsky you replied the moment I am watercoloring, lol
Haha good job! Hope you have a great session :D
Very good explanation, thank you. Could you give me the name of the Artist that you mentioned as I couldn't quite catch it.
I never learned the bead method. Know I see how. Part of the trick, too, is not over-misting it.
Love the music introo😼🔥
Haha thank you 😁🙏🏼

Thank You so much I really got a lot out of this video 😃
Great video; thanks
Super Dope and helpful thank you brother
Fantastic, thanks for your awesome videos!
My pleasure 🙏🏼😊 Thank you!
Good vid. Mixing areas need to be lightly sanded with 1000 sandpaper to eliminate the beading.
Yes, that can help the palette indeed. Though recently I stopped doing it for new ones, and it kind of works out with time haha (:
This is just what I was looking for, but what about for a longer horizontal area?
Hi Liron! When you paint do you always keep your sketchbook or paper at an angle? That seems to be the only way I can get this to work. This works great - even on my sketchpad Canson paper (which is not good). Thank you!
Happy to hear 😁
