    I think the reason why your watch isn't tracking is because your hand is on the table. A portion of the motion sensing is your arm swinging along with your walking.

    My bedroom atmosphere is ocean noises (also quite a light sleeper), meditating before bed (I use a heated eye mask during which is pretty calming but take off as I'm going to sleep), reading before bed and only using red light in the bedroom (can get red light book lights or smart bulbs that change to red).

    Hi Jules, I notice towards the end you mentioned your apple watch only counted 15 of the 70 minute walk you did on your treadmill. This isn't an error - the "exercise" minutes only track when you get your heart rate above a certain threshold. Because you walk often and are quite fit, it would take a higher level of activity for you to get your heart rate into the exercise threshold for it to count your minutes as exercise. It will still record your steps and active calories, but you may need to work harder by speeding up your walk for it to count as exercise minutes.

    I have an elastic wristband and as soon as I get up I put it around my ankle. That way I get all of my steps counted for the day as well as the stairs I climb if I go out for the mail I get everything counted. I also have a standing desk and a treadmill and I walk in the mornings during stand ups, I walk in all meetings I’m not speaking cause and I just generally always have my iwatch on my ankle actually went to the store the other day with it on my ankle and the lady thought I had an ankle bracelet was on house arrest it was hilarious, but I don’t care. I wear it on my ankle all the time that way I know I’m getting everything counted my moves, stands in, my steps, my heart rate just everything. I close my rings almost everyday and I’ve set lofty goals.

    Meditation teacher here, there are a few sleepy time meditation that can help. Yoga Nidra is a really good one to put the body to sleep with sound.
    (also on a personal note, sleeping through the night started for me when I had a snack or cup of milk to control my blood sugar at night. That’s why I kept waking up to pee!)

    We’ve just started using Pink Noise for sleeping and I think it’s made a difference in getting me back to sleep when i wake in the night (perimenopausal over here) Before using it my mind would engage and race and I would have to actively meditate at 4am to get back to sleep!

    I think our husbands work for the same employer and I completely resonate with how you were feeling. It took forever to find it if he was cleared. But glad both were safe…Also for the walking tread you need to get a different band and have to put it around your leg so it can track it properly

    I found Apple Health/Fitness tracking horrendously wrong most of the time. So I use Strava on my Apple Watch and the difference is noticeably different in its accuracy. An indoor walk on Apple Fitness is no where near the same as what Strava tracks… I used a treadmill at the gym to test it and Strava tracked exactly what the treadmill said I did. Apple? Waaaaaay off.

    I'm 43 and have been sleeping with a fan at night since my teens. I literally can not sleep without it and if the power goes out at night I wake up pretty much immediately because of the lack of white noise...the silence is deafening as they say. That being said, any time I've tried a sound machine, I've found that the speakers distort the sound (it's too high pitched or something) and it's not as soothing to me. So if you can't find a setting on your sound machine that works for you, you might try a plain Jane ole table top fan. I'm currently using a Honeywell turbo force. I put it away in my closet during the day and just pull it out when I'm ready to start putting myself to sleep.

    I and loving The Last Of Us too! I love all apocalyptic shows and watching society rebuild itself, like Lord of the Flies (but with zombies) 🧟‍♀. Also, as for the Milanese Loop Apple watch band, it's not great to run in if you sweat. It starts to itch and also it starts to slip a little and the sensors were probably not snug enough on your wrist (at that point). Additionally, the watch records walking by your arm swing, which is why they introduced the exercising in a wheelchair function. So because you are typing and walking it may not be recording your walk properly. Any of those could be the issue!

  • @sbragdon212
    @sbragdon212 Рік тому

    For the Apple Watch to track your treadmill walks, use an ankle strap (Amazon). If your wrist doesn’t move like on the standing desk, it won’t record properly.

    I 100% realize that this is only a glimpse of your day, but it was disappointing to not hear you really express any concern about those who did get laid off. It definitely makes sense to be grateful that that’s not a situation that you’re navigating, but that could’ve been the perfect opportunity for you to plug ways to support those who are experiencing lay-offs

  • @furgopottery

    About the eye mask: I once read somewhere not to wear one that lays flat over your eyes because it restricts rapid eye movement and to make sure to get one that has little cups over the eye part. Don't know if it's true but yeah though I would share!

    I can't speak to this personally, but I've seen people who walk on the treadmill while working put their apple watch on their ankle! It acts somewhat like a pedometer, I think, even when set to indoor walk so since you're not moving your arms, it may not recognize it :)
