It's good for rust removal on certain things yes. On aluminum absolutely not. While it will remove the stuff you want it to remove it will also damage the aluminum. Look into non acid wheel cleaners that detailers use, or hire a detailer to do it for you. I've been detailing for close to 15 years, I've made thousands fixing burned aluminum wheels for people who burned or abused them.

I used muratic acid to remove rust from the tow hook on my Acura MDX and I think I produced hydrogen sulfide in the process. Everything smelled like rotten eggs. I even added baking soda to neutralize it. Enough water and the smell went away.
It's because when the solution is hot the aluminium chloride hydrolyzes to form the black precipitate Al(OH)3. It then converts back to aluminium chloride when it cools down. The reaction: AlCl3+3H2O←→ Al(OH)3+ 3HCl
When this reaction hits 88 degrees celcius you are gonna see some serious shit.
This reaction releases a compound of Aluminum and Hydrogen as a gas, by simply running the gas through water you can get purified Hydrogen.
How would you run it through water ?

Such an excited exothermic reaction. I love it.
and people tell me to clean my aluminum wheels with this stuff...
Lol noooo
Its fine as long as the acid isnt on there forever. 30 seconds tops
Concentration is a thing. Wheel acid is always the best.
You obviously gotta dilute the acid and you don't leave it on there for more than like 20 seconds depending how diluted it is.
How did he clean that
Aka how to make meth in gmod Dark RP
Way cooler in an enclosed 20oz bottle. 💥

Amazing

the surface area of the aluminium foil makes the acid react much more violently than normal.

So... as a chemist... what did you put into the aluminium foil?
You’re not a chemist if you asked this question, at least I would hope note. It’s HCl + Al -> AlCl3 + H2

yes, this is the reaction.
2Al + 6HCl -> 2AlCl3 + 3H2

muriatic acid = n a former name for hydrochloric acid. [C17: from L muriaticus pickled, from muria brine]
Whats that black
It's because when the solution is hot the aluminium chloride hydrolyzes to form the black precipitate Al(OH)3.
It then converts back to aluminium chloride when it cools down.
The reaction:
AlCl3+3H2O←→ Al(OH)3+ 3HCl
So by adding NaOh solution to the one created you would get more precipitate?
