    I glue 1 inch rigid foam board to the back of the pegboard with a construction adhesive. It fills the space behind the pegboard to prevent spiders from making it a home. It adds rigidity to the pegboard and holds the hangers tight so they don't fall out. The foam board also adds an additional layer of insulation. I use quarter inch self taping lag screws at the corners and at the top and bottom where it crosses every stud. It is very secure and doesn't sag.

      How much glue do you need to put on the back of the pegboard? Is the rigid foam board cut to the same size as the pegboard?

    It's not clear how thick the ripped 2x4 is to stand the pegboard off the wall. It looks thinner than the 1 and 3/4" thickness of a 2x4.

      He was using 3/4 inch....

    • @groundedinfirstprinciples383
      @groundedinfirstprinciples383 Рік тому

      3/4 in is the standard. Very common to pick up at Home Depot etc. For three quarter inch by 1 and 1/2 by 8 ft. That's the exact length of the pegboard.
      Rule of thumb. You need half of an inch clearance between the pegboard and the wall.

  • @MrShitthead

    Not to be a downer, but this video was more of a "why peg boards are great" rather than a "how to". You guys installed it assuming that no one's putting the peg board over drywall, or a flat surface. Kind of a waste really...

    • @TheCatFan21
      @TheCatFan21 Рік тому +2

      The furring strip should be screwed in over drywall but not supported with anchors. Needs to be installed over studs. In US standard, you can find studs every 16" on-center and/or parallel to the vertical sides of windows and doors.

      I want to use 1/4” tempered Masonite pegboard with 1/4 inch 3 holes. I can’t seem to locate any. Any ideas where to find it. The other peg boards are not strong enough for the weight I like to put on it.
      Also, I have seen packs of spacers and self tapping screws for spacing the Masonite away from the wall. How well do those work in place of wood shims?

    Y'all can keep those hooks that need the plastic keepers, that's BS. Give me the ones that have 2 inserts per hook any day that's the only way to go in my opinion.

  • @Artificial.Unintelligence

    1st off this was lazy.. 2 screws in an OBVIOUS install situation and over half the video was putting up pegboard accessories which isn't the part people would have questions on..
    1. People say 'DONT use the pegboard holes to screw the board to the strips'... But you did, whats the risk?
    2. What's the difference between a horizontal install vs vertical? Both strips and pegboard..
    3. What needs pre-drilling? Paranoid the strips will just split and blow out because it's cheap wood.
    4. Also, how to deal with metal studs? Is it the same load bearing with a normal wood screw? or do you need to exclusively use wall anchors?
    5. no mention of how many screws per pegboard length/height and the load bearing expectation?? 1 screw in each corner seems like way too few.. at least for anything not sized tiny.
    6. Lastly, no one EVER mentions tips on how to do this kind of stuff solo; like a full sheet of pegboard is heavy.. how would i hold that up, level it, and get screws to drill in a corner by myself? What do people do to prop stuff up?

      Single mom to three, my oldest autistic son would love a peg board to display his nerf guns. But I have zero knowledge about this and unfortunately dad or uncles have all passed away. What a great example of the naive white male American perspective you’ve provided in this comment. Feeling thankful that the makers of this video were able to see the possible benefits of taping, editing, and posting their work.

      Don’t judge. I am greatful for this video. I am 57 widowed can’t afford to pay someone can’t afford mistakes. I wouldn’t have known to put distance if on a closed wall to hang hooks. I also wouldn’t have known holes different sizes also wouldn’t have known about the things to hold hooks against the board. So you may be bored with the video but I am greatful for it

    This has to be the most worthless video you guys have produced to date. No mention of how much backing material should be used for the size of pegboard you are hanging, no mention of what screws to use to attach the backing material to the drywall, no mention of what screws to use to mount the pegboard to the backing material, no mention of how to space out the screws and how many should be used.
