      @@ConstructedChaosOverview of confirmed weapon mastery:
      8 properties
Cleave: If you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you can make a second attack against a creature within 5 feet that is also within your reach. When you hit with the second attack, you can roll your weapon’s damage, but you don’t add your ability modifier unless it’s negative.
Graze: If you miss a creature with your weapon, you deal damage equal to the ability modifier you used to make the roll.
Nick: The Nick mastery property allows you to make the additional attack you receive from wielding two Light weapons as part of the initial attack action.
Push: The Push mastery property allows you to launch a creature you hit 10 feet straight away from you without a save. you can only push enemies Large or smaller.
Sap: When you hit an enemy with an attack, this mastery property inflicts Disadvantage on your target’s next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
Slow: When you hit a creature and deal damage, you can reduce its Speed by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. a creature’s Speed can’t be reduced by more than 10 feet with this property
Topple: When you hit a creature, you can force it to make a Constitution saving throw or fall Prone. The DC for this save is 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack plus your Proficiency Bonus.
Vex: When you hit a creature and deal damage, this mastery property gives you Advantage on your next attack roll before the end of your next turn.

    • @WyrmHunter

      @@haiclips3358 I pulled this from D&D Beyond:
"When you make an attack with a weapon that has the Light property, you can use a Bonus Action to make one attack with a different Light weapon you’re wielding.
The Nick mastery property allows you to make the additional attack you receive from wielding two Light weapons as part of the initial attack action.
Keep in mind that this doesn’t mean you can make a third attack as a Bonus Action, as the Light property specifies you only get one extra attack."
From what I understand, as a lvl 5 Champion fighter with the Telekinetic Feat I should be able to attempt a Shove as a bonus action, then take the Attack action to make a Shortsword attack with one hand, then make two dagger attacks due to the Nick property. All attacks would have advantage on a successful shove; one dagger attack would still be made with advantage - all great due to a higher crit chance. 👍

    • @Satsujinki1973
      @Satsujinki1973 3 місяці тому +3

@@WyrmHunter That all depends on which weapon is your primary and which is your secondary.
So if your shortsword is primary you would make two attacks with that, and then one with the dagger.
If your dagger is primary you would make two attacks with the dagger before you attack with the shortsword once. And I am not sure you would be able to make an offhand attack with the Shortsword as part of the attack action as it does not have the Nick property. It would have to be your bonus action.
And why would you want to use the lower damage dagger twice anyway? Shortsword does slightly more damage. With that as the primary, you would have Shortsword Vex attack, 2nd Shortsword Vex attack with Advantage, Nick Dagger attack with advantage, and TK shove whenever.

The changes outlined here add a bit of fun stuff to chew on though, I think, between having always-on ADV on initiative, getting free movement whenever you crit to add more flexibility, and then the free Inspiration every combat turn at lv10 as a fun little resource to give some player choice on how to use it during any given round. It's not much in terms of complexity, but with how these things interact with the new additions to the Fighter chassis, I feel like I can actually call Champion a subclass rather than a waste of paper, and that's got me kinda hopeful to see what they do with the other reworks :)

Like, using GFB and Booming Blade as examples, Push can be used to guarantee both effects, either pushing an enemy to a spot adjacent to someone else so that your followup GFB can splash on both targets, or like at lv9 dropping a Topple + Booming Blade onto an enemy and then doing a Push attack afterward. I think one of the key flaws in D&D combat is how often it is correct to stay put when in a fight; to just stay in melee range of the one enemy you're fighting until they're dead (and this goes for enemy creatures too). There's little to no motivation to move away from enemies in order to pursue other ones unless a friend really needs help. I like that the Fighter now has an ability that allows them to move out of combat range of an enemy without provoking AoO, because it makes the decision to actually move around the field more likely.

The Champion Fighter artwork depicts them with a Vorpal Sword. For those unaware, rolling a 20 on an attack roll with a Vorpal Sword instantly decapitates an enemy (or deals an extra 6d8 damage from the hit, at the GM's discretion). RAW, this effect does not interact with the Champion's Improved/Superior Critical feature, since it explicitly states that the roll has to be a 20. HOWEVER, if they change the wording of the Vorpal Sword's effect to "On a Crit" instead of "On a 20", Champion Fighters would be rolling around with a 15% chance to instakill their victim ON EVERY ATTACK ROLL. This does not even factor in all the new advantage shenanigans that Champions have access to. Admittedly, this interaction is wholly dependent on your DM giving you a Vorpal Sword, and making it to at least level 15. But if the stars align... Who wants to RP One Cut Man?

Oof, I don't care for the new surprise rules.
For narrative reasons, having enemies (or PCs) gawking for the whole first round of combat is fun. 5E's 2014 rule of having the ''surprised'' condition for the first round of combat was simple and effective to that end - and keep in mind, not all PCs or enemies had to be surprised, either, setting up fun and dynamic situations.
RAW, this 2024 update means that your efforts to surprise an enemy, even with a character with advantage (apx 30% higher roll) can still thwarted by a sleeping enemies roll pretty easily or lots of stuffs passive perception, which will not be satisfying. Furthermore, RAW, initiative order doesn't change after the first round of combat, so maybe you did get to go first, but the surprise really didn't affect the action-economy of the battle at all. Even with "chaos initiative," where you roll (probably with a digital tracker, and which is more fun and dynamic IMD) every round, higher initiative characters do stand a much higher chance of going quicker the second round if they didn't get to go first the first round... but it's still just one turn per character per round... TLDR: being higher in initiative order really only helps the first round of combat, then it's wait your turn...

Well. I feel like I was the only playtester that put this in input for this issue, and it wasn't read or just ignored. All the tweeks to actions and action surge so players can't multiclass in wizard and action surge to do 2 fireballs in one turn. Has now fallen on the Eldritch Knight. And now this subclass has been improved and nerfed in one smooth stroke.
What we've done here is open the EKs bonus action and allows a few more attacks to be made as well when it comes to war magic and improved war magic. This is great until you stop and think about it. Limiting improved war magic to lvl1 and lvl2 spells is lame. At that level The EK should be able to cast any level of spells within his spell list, which, as a 3rd caster, only goes to lvl4. At fighter level 20, the EK only gets 3, lvl 3 spell slots and 1, Level 4 spell slot.
Improved war magic is a major nerf! This is literally the sub classes Capstone ability. I height of the EKs power. Your taxing half his attacks snd your saying that the EK can only action surge and double up 2, lvl 1 or lvl 2 spells in a turn. That at level 20, the EK isn't capable of casting 2 spells of a higher level with his action surge. Is Wotc so determined to just make sure this is not a thing.l!? 2 high level spells in one turn? This should be the awesome niche ability specific to this subclass that is only rewarded by reaching a high level with 0 multi classing. And they jerked the rug out from under the EK by doing this. They buffed the mess out of the Battle master and the Champion. Only thing they did for the Ek was really open up thier bonus action and give them access to all schools of magic which was a bad part of the build to begin with and shouldn't have been done in the first place.
Fixing what's wrong and improving a subclass are 2 different things. I'll probably use the new EK, but allow a no spell level restriction on improved war magic at my table.
They always overdo too much for some and undercut the rest. Either way it is still not well balanced in my book.

Everyone can do everything. The Fighter who needed to have a limit on weapons accessible can now do rider effect on each and every weapon attack. This is just going to be a cumbersome system in 5.5. A better choice would've been to give fighters the ability to be proficient with a number of weapons equal to their proficiency mod, along with weapon mastery giving a limit of uses equal to the proficiency mod. Instead, your four player game feels like an eight player game now.

Not rolling in battlemaster was a major misstep IMO. Certain features sound like they improve the situation somewhat, but it still looks like fighters are going to be a braindead class to play, where unless you're playing an Eldritch Knight or a Battlemaster, you get to just make your attack and move on, with little other mechanical incentive to think outside the box.
