Feral cats. I have seen them as big as dogs--Pumas have long tails, long tailed cats such as leopards, Cheetahs, Pumas, Jaguars and their many variants all with long tails have no altered domestic equivalent, but some people DO keep long tailed cats as pets. These shot cats were most likely big feral cats--domestic cats reverted to the original of the undomesticated species. Just as one can selectively breed down and alter a member of a species in domestic situations, the reverse happens when they are released to survive in the wild--. These would have been originally sea-going cats, descendants from early sailing ships, either wrecked or put ashore. All sailing ships had them. Without them rodents became a problem on wooden vessels.
it is never mentioned whether the creatures had pouches, which of course female marsupials have.
where are these skins now....??
