Because of your comment I had to find and listen to the duet version. This song is so powerful that I can appreciate both versions as they were intended. If the Queen didn't like how Mary sang the song know that it would not have been released.
@@cawhit031 - Aretha had no control or power over the song nor the good and bad sounds of Mary J's voice. The song is not a Aretha's or Mary J's song, it was written for the movie Bobby. Aretha recorded the song all the way through with only her singing and Mary J did the same thing on her end. Neither Aretha or Mary were in the same Studio or state at the same time when they each recorded their own version. Then the producers did what they always do, cut, copy, pasted, and fused everything together to make a duet. But just because Aretha was / is the Queen Of Soul didn't mean she had control, the folks in charge just asked her to sing and she accepted.
You call her the Queen yet you doubt her power and influence. Mary did a great job stop hating.
@@cawhit031 - I never said that Mary didn't do a good job. The point I was making is this song was not written for Aretha or Mary as a song that would be on one of their own albums. It was written for the movie Bobby and they asked Aretha and Mary to sing it as a duet. But just like most duets a lot of times due to scheduling conflicts, singers are not able to be in the studio at the same time to record it together. So there's a version out there where it's just Mary singing all by herself and this one with Aretha all by herself. It's been done that way for many years in the music and entertainment industry. And then the folks in the studio piece everything together creating a duet. I was just stating that I prefer Aretha's version by herself more so than the duet. And Aretha didn't choose Mary nor did Mary choose Aretha. It was the writers and producers who made the decision knowing that these two women worked well together before. I work in show business in LA so I know the facts, that's all.

I will play this song at my sister's funeral April 26, 2024. She died September 6th, 2023 but her headstone just got put in the cemetery in Tow, Texas. We will bury her ashes. She was put on Eliquis with no apparent heart issues. She died from Hematomesis and Hypovolemic Shock because the hospital did not have Andexxa to give her. It's $24,000 a dose. Not every hospital stocks it. The adult assisted living facility in San Antonio, Texas, IHCS Residential where she stayed did not notify me when my sister was in the ICU for 2 days hemoragging blood. The director of the place, Gayle Washington, told the hospital my sister had no family, and then told the funeral home on September 7th the same thing. Gayle Washington then sent us an email on September 14th to tell us my sister died on the 6th. We called her and she wouldn't tell us where my sister was. Police helped me find Suzanne early on the 15th. Gayle Washington had told my daughter on the 14th the "facility" where Suzanne was would keep her 20-21 days so there was no rush to contact them. When I called Olinger Funeral Home early on the 15th, they had Suzanne tagged as unclaimed and were sending her out on the 16th for a pauper burial with 2 other people and one headstone. I was barely able to stop that from happening. Olinger told me legally they couldn't let me see Suzanne because her face had started to decompose. (Family has to give permission for embalming). My sister will now have her own graveside next to mom, where she wants to be, in a country cemetery in Tow, Texas and her own headstone. She told me years ago she wanted "She Loved Arts and Crafts" on her headstone. It's on it and I added a picture engraved of an paint easel. Her death is still being investigated but looks like the Texas HHS will not take any serious action against IHCS. So far, they are still open for business. Please pray for justice for Suzanne and peace of mind for me. I get out of bed most days because my God carries me, He doesn't just walk with me.

I found this song after watching a video from Wings of Pegasus about Bryan Adams. Apparently he wrote/ cowrote this song. Aretha Franklin had the most beautiful voice, the song is beautiful.
