  • For my Presets visit: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ Here's Keith's Short History of the VOX AC30 • The Vox AC30: A Short ... - definitely one to grab a coffee and watch!
    Keith over at Five Watt World very kindly asked me if I could get my hands on a Vox AC30 - he had seen I'd used one on the channel before - and so I said yeh I think so - (that one was a Handwired AC30 from the 90s Korg era - this one here is from 1970 - 71 at the very start of the Birch Stolec era and likely shares many parts with the JMI stuff). The amp belongs to Gary of Whipton Lane, and Carnaby Street, so I'd like to thank him for letting me check it out!
    You can get my Kemper profiles here www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... - I'll follow up via email (you'll also be redirected to the profiles and this folder includes all my profiles including Ceriatone OTS50, Mesa Boogie Nomad and my favourite Helix tones!).
    / johnnathancordy if you want my backing tracks!
    www.buymeacoffee.com/johnnath... - if you like what I do and only if you wanted, you could buy me a coffee!

    This reminds me of my vox I had around the early to mid 80's, the same vox logo in 'the plastic box' instead of the standard VOX logo with the line running through the centre of logo, the top boost logo on bottom of grill, the blue stickers on the speakers , it's good to see this amp again, I had to put castors on the bottom of the amp as they are heavy to carry around.
    I bought it from a local music shop owner who worked on vox amps in the 60's, he made amps for the Beatles and many more bands as he showed me the photos, great memories of the amp and the shop owner.
    I sold my vox as it got unreliable and smoke used to come out of the top grills during gigs and the sound/volume would go as well, I had to hit the top of the amp to bring the volume back😃
    I often wonder where it is now, maybe this is it??
    Thank you again great video.

    I like the 1970s Vox logo more than the standard Vox logo, something about it makes it feel more edgier

    The opening track gave me Phantasy Star Online vibes. Killer playing. Really like what I heard here.

    I think “The Vox and the Slut” has a nice ring to it 🤣. If these amps are smoother/have more warmth, from this era, it makes sense why Brian May would use a treble boost with them. Lovely sound.

    I'm guessing because it's not yours you haven't used the Captor as a load to see what driving the power section would do? I'm glad you mention the spikeyness of some AC30s as I once tried one when I was about 15/16? In my local music shop as I was really into early Queen and was desperate to authentically sounds like Brian, that amp was rubbish and sounded nothing like what I thought it would, until then I don't think I'd been so disappointed!

      Yeh not only that but it's a 16 ohm load, and my Captor X is an 8 ohm, so wasn't an option!

    Got to be honest I prefer the sound of any of your Mesa amps over the Vox.

  • @alien4422
    @alien4422 3 роки тому

    You sound the same no matter what gear you are using. By which I mean you have your own sound. So the extra gear is pointless. Since you always dial in the same tones.
