'They Sound Like Motorbikes': Ukrainians Say They Can Hear Iranian Suicide Drones Coming
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2022
- Russia has resorted to using Shahed-136 drones from Iran in its war on Ukraine. Ukraine says it's already downed many of the drones, which work by slamming into their intended target, laden with explosives. Ordinary Ukrainians say they can already recognize the sound of the drones.

It's actually pretty smart to use $1K per shot drones to drain the stockpile of $1M per shot defense shots.

Really hate to admit it, but you’re 100% right about that…
Just don't tell it to Ukrabots...
Worth considering
They're MUCH more than $1K .
The Ukrainian dude is trying to play down the significance of these drones by calling them home-made crude drones and he is partly right. These are not Iran's best drones, nor are they built for that purpose. These are meant to be used in large numbers and cause mayhem and destruction and so far they have been doing just that. Iran's got better drones for precision strikes and whatnot, mostly copies of mid 2000s American drones.
@@shinola228 who told you that? CNN? 😄
@@shinola228 Nah, the random damage is happening from Ukraine's own air defense missiles that can't maintain a lock-on to the nimble drones. These AD missiles are missing the incoming drones, and then often arcing straight back down into the cities. The Ukrainian AD are having 'own goals' like this daily. Ukrainian authorities deny this though, as it is not a good look for own public, or western sponsors, so they just do usual and blame Russians. There are videos of these events but you will have to scratch deeper than western MSM to see them.
That's like downplaying the truck bomb used in Oklahoma cause it was made in someone's garage. Like yeah its homemade literally. But a crater and several destroyed floors of a building are the result as it was as effective as much more expensive missiles that are part of a very expensive system...
Shouldn't downplay that. Not much you can do to something that's meant to destroy itself to kill you if you don't have air defenses. Which Ukraine doesn't seem to have as nations send only offensive weapons. Hmmm...
Why not send missile interceptors and things that can easily take down drones with lasers.....
Why is it only weapons that you use to attack with....
Why's it seem like everyone's more wanting the war to go on while pretending they want it to end....
Send in defensive systems.
Russia probably wouldn't mind that considering everyone's been sending offensive weapons like they said not to do as well. So defensive should be acceptable.

The technology of this UAV is in radar evasion, not the engine, that's why it has been successful so far, and NATO's anti-aircraft systems are unsuccessful in detecting and destroying it.

@@craigthebrute6385 Wrong. These are delta wing design, propelled by a pusher two stoke piston engine. The practical use of delta wing designs dates back to 1930's Germany. These Iranian drones are extremely effective . Try to discrete and portray them as you wish.
They are designed exactly as they are to fill the gap , no so called advanced and extremely expensive weapons is effective in stopping these drones’
And they are very cheap, Russia has similar drones like lancet-3, they can be controlled and they are more precise, but they cost like 5 times more than these drones which have longer range.

They are relatively cheap and low tech, but they do have some anti-radiation capacity, that is clearly interrupting Ukrainian Surface to Air missile systems, as these are failing to get a lock on them.
@@100milnic not to mention the cost. These things cost $10k-20k.
Say what you want but this video proves why it's exactly the best drone today. So cheap and easy to make, it costs less than your damned car and has a 1800-2500km range and a 40kg warhead. You can get 250 of these for one TB2 Bayraktar (or 1000 for 1 Reaper) and in one week they scored more hits than Bayraktar did in 2 months, precisely because there is just so many of the damn things. They are very capable of avoiding enemy radar and are very accurate (hitting moving vehicles). There are videos of them circling around Kiev and Ukrainian cops trying to shoot it with small arms. Even if they detect and hit it, the drone costs 10 times less than the missile, so they still win.
Even if they are hit and fall to the ground, the explosives will go off. These are harakiri drones, and process becomes even more logical given their cost.

Any idea about the navigation? Nearly for sure they rely on GPS. Maybe the russian Glonass or all three to four (US, RUS, EUR, CN) systems. Where is the electronic coming from?
A simple solution would be to light up the night. Another, to have a parabolic antenna (one should be enough, maybe 3 for better accuracy but if there are more than one of the iranian drones at the same time in the same area i suppose one parabolic antenna is enough. There is a product, i wont mention as the Russians (in case there are clever enough) could use, too that could be used.

This drone has a price of 20k dollars... compared to a 1 million dollar cruise missile,
these are much deadlier when half the price of a missile is spent on these.
Russia is looking for cheaper ways of hitting ukraine, that ain't good for ukraine... kinda like announcing they're ready to elongate this war if Nato is trying to escalate by sending defensive weapons to ukraine.
Can someone please explain to why they consider this a bad weapons system. Please bear in mind that a suicide drone is just that. It must be fairly cheap and prefer time on station to speed.
It's not a bad system. The narrative is that it's practically blind, with no optical sensors on it so it can't be steered by an operator for example. It's also very slow for an aerial vehicle, it doesn't exceed 200 km/h, which makes it easier to be spotted.
On the other hand, it's like a cheap version of a cruise missile, the low cost is insane, plus it's easy to mass-produce since it's made from commercial items. Despite being slow, it is hard to intercept, manpads and radars are almost useless. It has to be either shot down from above by a jet (using very expensive missiles) or shot down by a ground AA - like a Gepard. The first solution is the expensive one, the second solution might not be reliable due to the small size of the drone. Another pro of the drone is that it causes a lot of damage for a drone. From the videos we have seen, the fuel igniting after the warhead detonates creates a lot of fire damage.
The pros are more than the cons and that's excluding the ptsd its engine does lol.
This is what happens when the leader of your country claims the wealth for himself.

Yes, those were V-1 rockets known as Buzzbombs or Doodlebugs. They used a pulse jet engine which made the characteristic "buzzing" sound as it was incoming. These only travelled at 4,000 feet high and 150 mph so you could see them coming. I'm sure it was a terrifying sound since Germany fired over 9,000 into England in 1944 and '45. @@hamletksquid2702 Yes it would be illegal on the street but probably modified for use in drones to a certain degree
@@360-Guy - I think it's an ultralight airplane motor. I've ridden 2 -and 3- cylinder two strokes, and they sound like so many chain saws.
@@hamletksquid2702Yes I agree that makes perfect sense and those two strokes are loud and modified for that platform in a way it's clever for the Iranians to build that two stroke for different applications from Scooters to Drones modify it to the platform and you have an engine where parts are readily available low tech but effective
Those explosions are really large...God damn
Seem very effective and with the cost well worth it
I found it that it makes a big explosion but when you go look at it it's still almost all intact something doesn't add up here
The German V-1 flying bombs were called 'buzz-bombs' because they made the roaring sound of a heavy motorcycle...
Those were pulse jet engines.
Or more like because they were actually buzzing, coming from the pulse engine.
@@iamtheoffenderofall Correct! It was a totally different engine, but also sounded like a motorcycle engine.
And it also was a terror weapon...
@@iamtheoffenderofall Thanks. I was hoping someone would straighten that out before it became some kind of mis-fact.
That's what I'm saying, I thought these were very similar in almost every way other than the missing pulse jets...
Despite the Iranian claims I would be very surprised if that can fly more than 100km max. That type of engine is thirsty and so an endurance of 2 hours would be good going and they are slow flying.
But they became a problem for the Ukrainian Army.
@koekoek In that case Ukraine should get a couple of them as well, Kremlin should be in reach.
@koekoek they look much slower than that in the video
@koekoek where did you get that speed number? What I found is half of that
@koekoek internet engineer. you dont know what you are talking about
“2 stroke motor like a lawn mower”
Uhh, we haven’t had 2 stroke lawnmowers for 20+ years now.
Glad to see that the world is getting involved with this on both sides. Only fair that other countries help Russia since all the western countries are fighting for ukraine.
Exactly
What do you mean? It's "fair" that countries help Russia invading Ukraine? That's some fucked up way to think about it
We've been hit by a few dirtbikes already
Ah haha thats very funny.
Do they hear it when they hit the target as well ?
1000kls range,that impressive
People remember the V1 flying bombs from WW2 sounding the same
Cheapest option to bring them down is AA cannons with proximity fuze airburst ammo.
Missiles cost too much. Electronic warfare systems do not seem to work because these things fly to predetermined GPS coordinates, no need to be guided so that you can sever the connection to operator. GPS jamming might work, but that is also not easy
The issue is they fly very low and its quite hard to detect them with radar. Matter of fact, some of them have taken out radar systems used by the Ukrainians, according to a Ukrainian officer.
Biden will buy it all if you ask.
machine gun nests should work! the shahed are large enough and low enough and most important SLOW enough to shoot down with machine gun fire
Maybe you can just shoot a net in the air and drown it with a net like a fish in the sea.
Are this Rotax motors? They produced in Austria. I'flying with paraglider, and they sound like motorised paragliders or paratrikes.
Limbach L550E UAV engine clones..and way more cheaper for resource rich Iran to build..
I really don’t see the issue here. They are cheap and effective compared to the millions of a high tech drone
It’s the modern day v1, both have distinct noises, and didn’t really do much.
Was thinking the same thing
Well, V1's were a legitimately feared weapon, these not so much i think
Apart from destroying houses.
Russian soldiers need to pack up and head home before things get much worse as resistance is rapidly growing against Putin's attempted land grab in the Ukraine.
Remember: only one brave soul in his inner circle is needed to stop Putin.
*#SaveLivesSmokePutin*
What about Brandon… or the hands that control his strings.
The heart of the drone is the engine, and the Iranian Shahed-129 drone uses the Rotax 914 aircraft engine, the same as those used on U.S. Predator drones.
no it uses a much smaller 2 stroke engine

In Red Square, the Russian army is the greatest in the world. In battle, they are girl scouts. 💙💛🌻🇺🇸
It's similar to the US army who lost to 70s Aks/RPGs and WWII Snipers while having the most sophisticated weapons.😂
I am afraid you are insulting to girl scouts.
I’m betting real Ukrainian Girl Scouts could beat them.
Hey, why are you insulting Girl scouts? They would mop the floor with the Red Army.
I know someone knows what or who makes that engine. 4 cylinder 2 cycle I’m guessing 100 hp or so. Electric start really clean and professional wiring. Not homemade at least not a conversion of a car or motorcycle engine. The engine was factory built no doubt.
It is a German design, copied by China/Iran 20 years ago. Sold everywhere.
@@cogoid Was I close on the Horsepower? A direct drive prop has to limit the rpm. For example a 60 inch propeller at 4k rpm, the tips of the propeller go supersonic and become really inefficient and loud too. So for an aircraft engine which is directly driving the propeller, it has to develop its HP and torque at lower revs. . The only way to do that is a lot of cubic inches or liters. For example Lycoming has engines which produce 160 hp at 320 cubic inches. 5 or so liters. That is massive! The limit on that engine is 2700 rpm. That is spinning a 68 inch propeller. Two cycle engines are not efficient. I bet that drone is using close to 3 gallons per hour. Know the fuel tank size and you know the range. I expect they attack from down wind from their launch position to extend the range.
@@crawford323 The engine is 50 hp, uses 5 gallons an hour at full power. I think the drone has roughly 20 gallons of fuel on-board, and has a range of 600 miles.
@@cogoid well, I’ll be a monkeys uncle. Whatever that means. 600 miles on 20 gallons at 5 GPH that’s a cruise speed of 125 not too shabby on 50 hp. That engine would power an ultralight human carrying airplane just fine. Back in the day we would convert VW engines for Gyroplanes. A bit more hp but far heavier at 185 pounds. We do not see those engines here in the US at all. Maybe to power a generator but not a scooter. I pray this war is over soon.
@@crawford323 It probably needs much less than full power in cruise, especially when the fuel tank empties up. There are also newer versions of the engine with considerably better fuel efficiency -- but it is hard to tell if they are used here.
Iran is the mother of drones
Viva IRAN♥️🇮🇷
at 1:10 the propeller is made of wood?
It's technically very impressive that Iran, a heavily sanctioned nation, could build such a massive number of these considerable drones. They have flaws, sure, they're loud as hell, but they're way ahead of the Russians that's for sure.
Their handmade nature may lead to production bottlenecks eventually, however. We should also look into GPS jamming, or find a way to use EW suite to have these things return to sender.
the small trick is just ignoring the basic needs of your people and using them like slaves.
with that simple trick you can achieve many things !!!
Literally a supposed superpower is left to purchasing pop guns from religious renegade mullahs.....Lmmfao!!!!!
With American chips :-(
GPS is controlled by US , if US wants they can simply stop providing gps services to them. I believe Iran doesn't have any satellites up there and Russian Glonass is kind of garbage According to media info i have.
It would only take a quick phone call to the Israeli government and that drone factory would be a hole in the ground.
I'm always surprised at what humans can get used to.
Add they can't seem to do anything about them... So why are they making fun of them?
The real option is to cry on a western sponsored propaganda video about its real effects which are devastating..but I'm sure their paymasters wont be happy..
Heard there was a sudden theft of vintage VW beetles and BMW motorcycles. I see the reasoning for it.
If they're so easy to shoot down and aren't effective. Why is 90% of them getting through and hitting the assigned target accurately?
This is a bot channel with a few British and Ukrainians here patting themselves to assuage themselves over their continuous losses. I come here and just read for entertainment. It's like watching someone talk schit while they're getting their ass handed to them.... These threads are amazingly entertaining...
Because you can't just shoot down swarms of drones, Ukraine needs this weapons for other things
It may very well be that they are so ineffective that the Ukrainians feel like there are more important problems to deal with than the flying exploding lawnmowers.
Because westerners are jelouse and nasty towards Iran and Russia
@@davidturner4987 Sure buddy, just read the NYT article about the effectiveness of Iranian drones.

They don't need love, they need cash, weapons AND people. Lace dem combat boots up and GO show them your love..
Not going to lie, I'd really like to have one of those motors...
Dear Ukrainians, you have witnessed how justice sounds like
Justice will be when they will bomb your house
If it's relatively slow and incredibly loud, it doesn't make sense to use against anyone with weapons to defend themselves. This sounds like it was designed to use against unarmed people.
I'm afraid you may be right. Civilians have been targeted throughout putin's war.
This thing is a 21st Century dollar-store equivalent of the V1.
