As soon as I heard 'pressure is for tyres' commentary on TV, I knew this would be iconic. I mean in a special moment like that, that commentary is just hilarious. Love it
The pundits and commentators all have these sayings ready to go before the match has even started. They are not clever or witty enough to be spontaneous.
Kane was objectively dire, epitomised when Saka was played in, beat his man, crossed the ball and Kane was still on the edge of the 18 open mouthed and had barely moved 6ft.
It's clear Kane is not fully fit but Saka never looked up once when crossing- twice in the first half Kane pulled off the defender into space for a cutback and Saka just over hit a blind cross
Shout out to mainoo and especially konsa... it's not easy coming into a game like that... it's high stakes and your game has to be tight...he did well so well i wouldn't have a problem if he started again
Mainoo spent far too much time occupying Foden's space which is why Foden had to come deep and start pinging long passes. If he's not going to play deep we should play a dedicated left winger instead.

So much better than Football Daily on BBC Sounds - a load of one-eyed nonsense about how amazing England are. Shame it used to be great but lost its objectivity.
They have been doing that this past season. I imagine they plan on continuing given how well that was received before they carried it on for the Euros.
It’s annoying that as good as Saka was at beating players and getting to the byline we have Anthony Gordon who can do exactly the same on the left but we don’t use him
One last comment, Micah - great future in commentary ahead, long may it continue, Shearer - legendary player, man of the people and so much more, Gary - simply an institution to not only our footballing community and nation, but the football community globally period!! a big thank you to you all. With so much talk about HK being slightly off pace, would be great to see Gareth try something different like starting with Ollie or Ivan for the first 50 mins then bringing H on, he would be fresher and sharper for the remainder of the game and hopefully either of the other two by then would've either been successful in scoring or have worn their defenders down as they have much higher energy levels, H still offers so much in terms of reliability in front of goal and simply cannot be overlooked, but in taking this approach could somewhat support H to be just as effective whilst other options would've been given a chance and England seen as being more proactive with their tactics..just a thought..?
Love listening/watching these euro podcasts. Nicely filling in the gap between games. Looking forward to the next one...if only to see what outlandish shirt "Big Meeks" will be wearing next 😂
My take on Southgate is he just isn't brave enough, front footed enough in terms of philosophy or adjustments. He's steadfastly loyal to players in a manner that holds England back and in spite of both those traits he's our most successful England manager in 60 years. The simplest critique of the players is how few chances we create. Saka finally cuts in and lets it fly and he scores. We need more efforts on goal. Engineering the perfect opportunity within 6 yards is a fool's errand. If we aren't going to play people that threaten the counter or run behind then there has to be a green light shoot on sight within 20 yards of goal. If you never shoot, you never score.
Also worth noting that Saka only scores because Rice makes a sacrificial / decoy run that creates the space to cut in. Rice would NEVER have made that run if we were drawing or winning. The low risk philosophy means we create next to nothing.
Saka was able to make that inside move and shot, which is classic Saka and his key threat (he's not actually great crossing off his weaker right foot) because he got the ball in the right area high up on the edge of the box with a player over/underlappinng him (Rice in this case) to take a defender away and create the space. This is what he gets when he plays for Arsenal and they control possession (allowing that run from midfield/fullback). He hasn't had it for England enough this tournament and so actually he's been going outside of his markers a lot more from deeper positions or when receiving more direct passes, making him commit defenders earlier.
The pod has been more exiting during the euros. 1. There seem to be more freedom 2. Locations 3. The conversations are interesting from start to finish. And more really
I agree with the suggestions Kane isn't fully fit, but what confuses me about that is when I see him sprinting back to the edge of his own box, he looks fine. It's when there's an attack on he looks sluggish and leggy, is it that he's expending all his energy in the wrong moments? RE: Pickford's bottle, in case of a vital shoot-out in the semi-final or final, I think he should put the opposite on the bottle - if for a player he needs to dive left, the bottle should say dive right, but he knows he's doing the opposite of the bottle. He should then leave the bottle right there for the opposition to see. The widespread coverage of it will have opponents taking notice of the bottle 100%.
I'm starting to wonder if everyone has been told to reel in the criticism a bit. To be completely honest I really didn't see too much to jump up and down about for the first 80 minutes apart from some great endeavour shown by Saka .... It was incredibly obvious we had lost control of the game 10 minutes before the Swiss scored, and the time for change was at that point. To now be saying what great changes X 3 were made when we were again desperately chasing the game is comical. Great strike by Saka ... (MOM by far) to level things up. Good pens but please let's not say we prepare any better than any of the other 'big' teams for these occasions. Let's hope we can play well against a pretty average Dutch side and grab a spot in another final.... c'mon England.
It's partially to cover themselves in case England do win it, but also with the reaction from Southgate and Kane - they don't want to make another slightly out of context headline that will used by other journalists to make it seem like they have agendas following the previous comments. It's a good podcast, but unfortunately they can't be as honest as the likes of UA-camrs and talksport accepted sensationalism. Having said all that, their praise did have some truth to it. The system did work better, but the quality in the final third just wasn't quite there again other than Saka. For me, either Kane needs to be replaced or Bellingham needs to make more forwards runs and stay higher to offer another body in the box and an outlet in the counter attacks.
didn't see much of an improvement from last game. Still Southgate making us solid and hoping one of the boys does something special. Better to be lucky than good... semis here we come
@@jmk1233yes, Bellingham should be getting forward more. I'd actually like to see him through the middle instead of Kane at this point. Kane is such a passenger now and Bellingham would benefit from a simpler role that would also speak to his ego, basically saying you're the guy to go and get on the end of everything and score the goals.
Scottish guy here, but well done on getting through. Just wanted to give credit to Saka. Not just the guys talent but his willingness to run and play anywhere he's asked.
Alan’s views on the game much more on point than Gary’s and Micah’s yesterday. Yes more positive and more of a team but still far from what we could be doing. Can’t be not having a shot on target until the last 10/15 mins!
What do you think Anthony Gordon has done to not even seem to be on Southgates mind when he is (eventually) thinking about making subs? It completely baffles me as i think he is the only traditional forward thinking left sided attacker we have, and he is very willing and able to do the defensive side of the required duties too. . . .
If we played the formation that we played in the group stages he really should be in as the LW but with this switch I don’t think he’ll get in there was a question that he wasn’t 100% fit as well and feel off and hurt himself biking, saying that I wouldn’t be surprised if Shaw plays from now and Gordon is the replacement as a LWB for he energy
Finally Shearer started cheering up a little. Great Podcast, guys! The best on UA-cam for us England fans. Look forward to it eagerly after every match
Shaw or Gordon for Trippier, Watkins for Kane. Then we have a decent chance. I'd even swap in Konsa for Walker. Past performances can't override consistently poor performances in recent matches.
Gordon should have been played more all tournament - especially in the 4-2-3-1 system as we didnt have that left winger thats hes excellent in. However, I'm not sure hes the answer in the 3-5-2 tbh. Watkins or Toney for Kane all day long. Watkins is faster and toney i think is stronger and would hold the ball up better - both things Kane lacks this tourney.
Its worse imo, Kane gets in the way of foden/Bellingham and he would rather play defense. At least Ronaldo stays up top, hes just too old to be the lone man there and Portugal were poor on crosses or getting the ball to him in general.
I think what you guys said about Rice is absolutely spot on, and it reminds me also of how people spoke about Busquets. As in, if you just casually watch the game you don't think they did much, but if you just watch the player you realise how actually they are more or less central to everything. Rice isn't quite there yet, but it's relly surprisingly how sumilarlythe two play
Anyone who has this opinion should be locked up for life! Busquets is one of the greatest to ever do it and he’s being compared with Rice who’s the complete opposite of him as a player. Rice is mobile all energy and can run box to box to score goals but Busquets was a genius who let his brain and the ball do the work
In my opinion, I believe Foden has consistently been England’s most underwhelming player throughout the tournament. Surely now is the time to play Palmer as a 2nd No10 or Gordon on the left?
Foden seems to need very particular systems to play his brand of football. Palmer looks like the kind of player you can deploy in any team and get a good performance.
You guys are fantastic but I think you're too positive with England's performance vs the Swiss. It was actually just slightly better (comparing to the previous game).
I'm not surprised they came in for criticism after their half time response to England. It was way over the top. One of them said "and Switzerland haven't even had a shot on goal" when England hadn't had a shot on goal either and didn't have one until we scored
Alan makes the point of the Netherlands coming third in their group, which I think is a bit misleading considering how much tougher their group was and the fact they got 4 points and ended third, while England got 5 and finished first. Plus they've scored a lot more goals.
Lots of chat about “leaving people out”, but not starting someone and bringing them in as impact can be a superb way of shaking the opposition. Bringing HK on for the last 15 - 20 could be very impactful.
Wdym don't wanna take off Foden? He's been pretty bad but tbf none of the frontline have got the ball much. Foden for Gordon and then you have Saka destroying the right wing and Gordon at least making a threat down the left. That would encourage Kane to stay in the middle and get to crosses or if not take him off and play Toney or Watkins... Personally thought Watkins should have come on for 3 of the group stages games, should be used more for pace late in the game, pushing the backline to make space for the likes of Bellinghams late runs and Foden's 10 positions.
Never change a team that is unbeaton.Brian clough the only english manager won back European cups with Nottingham forest he built from the back and hit teams on the break.southgate has a good record and i feel its our time and football's coming home
Alan went PRIME Peter Drury with the tyres bar. Don't want to ever hear Saka LB shout or dropped from these huge ex players. Look at the stats, England player of the year twice, most goals for England last 2 MAJOR COMPS, put his nation on his back in a quarter final, 4/4 take ons, most tackles, only goal in 120mins, most chances created. INSANE STATS He's been 1 of England best players for 4 years yet ppl purposely ignored that. Yet "Build the team around Foden" is having an AWFUL tournament again and the media aren't talking about this
I'm sure Portugal had the same conversation about leaving Ronaldo out and look how that turned out. I'd maybe start with Watkins and bring Kane on later if we need a goal
The following should start the next game: Luke Shaw Olly Walkins Cole Palmer Eze Bench; Kane Foden Tripper England needs to press, we have players with ball control, defending capabilities, excellent Goal keeper so why not have a goal.
Funny how the discussion about Kane's usefulness/performance is very similar to the debate about the Dutch team on Depay, who drops away from the center point, and whether he would do better behind Weghorst who could then 'occupy the defenders'.
Love the show and the comments are fascinating. How many people here have played in a tournament and won, at any level? I have played hockey in league and cup for 30 years. Dominated leagues but have only won once in a tournament; it is completely different. I'm not saying this is the same, but I feel people here are really harsh and underestimating nerves and consequences for tiny mistakes. There is no second chance, playing defensive until they tire feels spot on to me.
I still wonder about Foden. For me, he's done nothing of note in an attacking sense. Yes he's jogged into space and played some passes and kept the ball moving but by no means would I describe his performances as world class. Think about what Gazza did compared to Foden, he's a passenger by comparison. Get at them. Take a man on. At the edge of the 18 yard box in the centre, run for the gap. I've also noticed the total lack of quick balls into Kane between the defenders. Little dinks into the box, passes on the ground where he can take it to feet. That creates chances. It's Kane's bread and butter. Kane was great defensively and generally good but you have to service him. Something for him to do a 2 yard dart run onto and shoot. That requires the wingers to be awake, and not obsessed with rote play.
Saka kept getting dangerous balls and needed a striker to be in the box Don't know what Kane was playing at but he was arriving far too late in the box
Tbh Saka did a great job at beating his man... but it was only that 1 ball that found the space in the box or the cross bearing the first defender. We are missing the glaring truth that Foden and Bellingham need to run past him and fill the box. That's what Son, that's what Sane etc. We are creating very very little and I can see Kane as the easy fall guy, but it's missing the point imho
@@bannnnner we can't just say "we can't drop Kane" like Watkins / Toney are suddenly incapable of finishing 10 yards out. And we can't not use our squad and keep players fresh, hungry and competitive like Pep does at City. If we want a Club ethos at England level, we need to play the players that suit that position / opposition and if we're not playing with Sane and Gnabry as out and out wingers, then we can't have false 9 Kane. We need to play the right player for the opposition and TRUST them. And when Kane gets his chance, he won't dare to play like he just did.
16:00 Kane dropping in to be one of the 10s when one of the wide CBs is in the ball is perfect in this system…the 10 then needs to run beyond…the interchange of movement of the 10 and 9, combined with an “up-back-through” passing pattern (CB to 9 to 6/WB and then into space for 10 to run on to) will unlock many defences. That is one part missing from this system
In what world was Foden playing well? He's been poor all tournament but obviously hes the media's golden boy so no one will comment, Walker also shocking all tournament
Foden has been under performing but playing better than most. He's worthy of his place. Saka was excellent when given the room and foden would be the same. Agree with Walker though, his positioning has been well off
Mainoo, Foden and Saka on that right side look really promising, Mainoo and Foden always looking for the ball and to keep it moving. Bellingham, Rice and Gordon (but more likely Shaw) could work really well on the left too. At this point though Kane is the serious weak link. I'd rather see Bellingham through the middle. He either needs to play deeper or at the point of the attack, he's not a 10 really, it's not what he does at Real. I'd seriously consider putting him through the middle like at Real with Gordon and Saka giving the width left and right, Mainoo and Foden in behind. Either in a 4-1-4-1with our 'normal' back 4 (Shaw, Guehi/konsa, Stones, Walker) and Rice in front, or my prefered option 3-4-2-1/3-2-4-1 with Wharton alongside Rice, back 3 of Guehi, Stones, Konsa.
Love the podcast, keep up the good work. As a neutral i hope it will be Spain v Netherlands in the final. But I'm guessing it will be Gareth Southgate v Didier Deschamps in the final, a European Cup trophy awarded without either team doing something as foolhardy as firing a shot on target in a tie.
there was one Saka break down the wing and he crossed it in, Kane was busy trotting towards the penalty area, think he just about got in by the time the ball was crossed.........
Great podcast as always. A quick observation, I love the wine collection in the back and there seem to be a lot of it. Is this with the hope of getting through to the finals?! :p (or you guys do get through quite a bit during the podcast?!)
Did ITV play a football game against the BBC and was Shearer and Keane playing, and did Keane go over and give shearer a hug ❤ lol, I would love to see the two of them together on the podcast, keep up the brilliant work ye men do, from irish Lee Curran living in Brisbane and the weather is brilliant in winter 😃😃
It seemed clear to everyone that changes needed to be made and Switzerland were likely going to score. It's difficult to imagine Southgate proactively making changes. Southgate might snatch a result, but the margins are that much tighter against the very best teams that the Southgate handicap most probably will cost us like it did against Italy.
Absolutely, against Spain, or even France and the Netherlands those margins will be much finer. If England go down by two goals or even need to score two I can't see them doing it.
He won't drop kane, but what I would like to see from Gareth if kane is not having an impact on the game is make a change quicker, 60 mins max. Either take him off or put someone up there with him to offer the running in behind and closing down for him. Will he do that though who knows
I love how Shearer goes out of his way to avoid complimenting any United players haha talking about Phil Foden having a good game and not mentioning Mainoo is absolutely criminal.

It completely baffles me as i think he is the only traditional forward thinking left sided attacker we have, and he is very willing and able to do the defensive side of the required duties too. . . .
If we played the formation that we played in the group stages he really should be in as the LW but with this switch I don’t think he’ll get in there was a question that he wasn’t 100% fit as well and feel off and hurt himself biking, saying that I wouldn’t be surprised if Shaw plays from now and Gordon is the replacement as a LWB for he energy
he fell off his bike didn't he?
Favourite podcast by far 💙
Yes this was fun and more positive podcast! Thanks lads! Enjoyed it
Micah and Shearer duo are soo funny.. and Gary of course a stalwart of the game on and off the pitch, loving the pod cast
Finally Shearer started cheering up a little. Great Podcast, guys! The best on UA-cam for us England fans. Look forward to it eagerly after every match
And the Cantona interview was legendary
Imagine going to an England game on the train. You're loving the atmosphere, having a bit of a sing song and then Alan Shearer gets on.
Nice episode as usual!
Micah is welcoming summer vibe with that shirt so fresh so clean clean
Foden still being protected,😮😮
Unfortunately they are always protecting City players on here. They’ve all been appalling but they won’t bring it up
Shaw or Gordon for Trippier, Watkins for Kane.
Agreed.
Watkins for Kane, Palmer for Foden, Gordon for Trippier, and Konsa in for Walker, and Guehi back in on the left side
If England win the euros, Alan and Gary should wear some of Micah's fun silk shirts on the following episode
So happy for Saka ❤ #Arsenal 😊
it's not about individuals & has nothing to do with arsenal
Alan's Palmer bit at 20:28 has me in stitches
Enjoyed the spoof BBC coverage at halftime Gary and co .
There's almost no point talking about replacing Kane because it'll never happen. We saw the same issue with Portugal and Ronaldo.
2 worst players of the tournament. Kane definitely has some dodgy info on Gareth
Rice is mobile all energy and can run box to box to score goals but Busquets was a genius who let his brain and the ball do the work
He's a cdm like casemiro
Busquet's?? You're having a laugh fella!! Rice hasnt made a pass through the lines all tournament!
Rice is the polar opposite of Busquets
Could listen to these three read out the shipping forecast - love yas
💯
And the Dutch should have been 1-0 up against France until the (English ref and VAR stepped in)
Lots of chat about “leaving people out”, but not starting someone and bringing them in as impact can be a superb way of shaking the opposition.
Yet "Build the team around Foden" is having an AWFUL tournament again and the media aren't talking about this
Great pod guys😎
I'm sure Portugal had the same conversation about leaving Ronaldo out and look how that turned out. I'd maybe start with Watkins and bring Kane on later if we need a goal
How it should have been all tournament
The following should start the next game:
Luke Shaw
Olly Walkins
Cole Palmer
Eze
Bench;
Kane
Foden
Tripper
England needs to press, we have players with ball control, defending capabilities, excellent Goal keeper so why not have a goal.
I think the ref might spot England fielding twelve players.
Funny how the discussion about Kane's usefulness/performance is very similar to the debate about the Dutch team on Depay, who drops away from the center point, and whether he would do better behind Weghorst who could then 'occupy the defenders'.
great podcasts these, Micah is so infectious too!
Gareth is awesome, doing a great job.
Couldn't be three more different characters. This podcast definitely works.
💯
Another belter lads!
These podcasts have been more entertaining than watching England play
Saka kept getting dangerous balls and needed a striker to be in the box
Don't know what Kane was playing at but he was arriving far too late in the box
That’s coz 99/100 saka cuts back on his left and cuts it back to the edge of the box.
Micah that shirt is fire! Love it mate 👌
If you want to pay over half a bag of sand for a Hawaiian shirt. 😂
Shout out Declan Rice discipline, he could perform further up the pitch but stays switched on in front of the backline but still had shots on target.
Something has to be done with kane
Micah’s analysis is brilliant asks and explains things well
So far Micha has raised £86.25 for charity. Keep wearing the shirt mate...we are all very proud of you !!
Thanks for putting this up guys. Love from Downunder.😊
Look at his stats.
Foden has been bad, he looks like a lightweight. In a dominant City side at club level, it's different.
@@SC.KINGDOM I know they stink
@@UnboxRacing needs dropping.
Foden has been under performing but playing better than most. He's worthy of his place. Saka was excellent when given the room and foden would be the same. Agree with Walker though, his positioning has been well off
Fantastic podcast, only rival to stick to football imo.
Micah is so positive and a great knowledgeable mind
Great Podcasts Gents 👋 Come On England 🏆
We need more Mainoo love, stepped into midfield and has stabilised it. Rice, Foden, and Bellingham look way more relaxed playing with him
Mainoo, Foden and Saka on that right side look really promising, Mainoo and Foden always looking for the ball and to keep it moving.
Although the defense still doesn’t quite seem to trust him in terms of passing out to him. Even though he’s good playing on the half turn.
Alan was top class on the commentary. Come on England
That shirt is 🔥🔥🔥
Which shirt? 🤣
@@andyh323 Not sure, theyre all so colourful
The shirt should be in the …..
It's Gucci duh
Yeah, it does looks highly flammable
It seemed clear to everyone that changes needed to be made and Switzerland were likely going to score. It's difficult to imagine Southgate proactively making changes. Southgate might snatch a result, but the margins are that much tighter against the very best teams that the Southgate handicap most probably will cost us like it did against Italy.
Absolutely, against Spain, or even France and the Netherlands those margins will be much finer. If England go down by two goals or even need to score two I can't see them doing it.
Micah shirts are the highlight of these shows, aren't they !
No
Really enjoy this pod and it suits my awful sleeping patterns as well. 😂
I was just thinking that as I drift off to sleep..
It's become part of my sleep routine 😂
He won't drop kane, but what I would like to see from Gareth if kane is not having an impact on the game is make a change quicker, 60 mins max. Either take him off or put someone up there with him to offer the running in behind and closing down for him. Will he do that though who knows
I love how Shearer goes out of his way to avoid complimenting any United players haha talking about Phil Foden having a good game and not mentioning Mainoo is absolutely criminal.
