We're not going to judge you Nick fir wanting more time on a Jubilee line train. In fact, we're all here for it. Thanks for the video 👍
I was in London yesterday and I wanted to go on the jubilee line but my brother didn't let me 😭😭😭
Completely agree with this, you could have stayed on the Jubilee even longer with a change at Finchley Road and then Farringdon.
I love these videos, they’re quite entertaining! Couple of suggestions, Glasgow Queen Street to Central. A pointless journey I’ve done plenty times😂 Edinburgh Park/Gateway/Haymarket to Waverley.
Newcastle Central to Newcastle Central - Metro to National Rail.
Bonus points for doing high level to high level. The low level route is just changing at Partick.
High level route would be something like Queen St, Cumbernauld (27m), Motherwell (21m), Central (16m).
But trains from Motherwell to Central High Level aren't very frequent, so you might need to change at Newton (18m + 18m).
Portsmouth and Southsea high to Portsmouth and Southsea low would be quite good - if you did it soon you could feature a class 313 before they get retired later this month.
Great vlog Nick I have an idea of 2 pointless journeys you could do, Tamworth High Level to Tamworth Low Level & SmethwickGaltonBridge High Level to SmethwickGaltonBridge Low Level.
Follow the step free Liverpool Street (Elizabeth line) to Liverpool Street Circle line takes you out at Moorgate and back by train!
Could always do Kenton to Northwick Park or vice versa
Great series!! Definitely need to try wigan north western to wigan wallgate and of course, Kirkby to Kirkby!
I've got a good one: Moorfields Northern Line to Moorfields Wirral Line. Moorfields - Liverpool South Parkway, Liverpool South Parkway - Lime Street, Lime Street - James Street, James Street to Moorfields.
If someone can find something more convoluted and pointless, I'll eat my hat.
Here's another pointless journey in London:
From Waterloo low-level to Waterloo mainline:
1. Take the Jubilee Line from Waterloo (low level) to Westminster (5 mins)
2. Take the River Bus from Westminster Pier to North Greenwich Pier (45 mins)
3. Take the Emirates Airline across the river to Royal Docks (20 mins)
4. Take the DLR from Royal Victoria to Stratford (10-15 mins)
5. Take the London Overground from Stratford to Richmond via Gospel Oak (1 hour)
6. Richmond to Waterloo (mainline) on Southwestern Trains (15-20 mins)
Total journey time c. 3 hours but you get to see an awful lot of London and use 6 different modes of public transport!
Also, Waterloo East to Waterloo Main (don't know what else to call the main Waterloo station)
Wonderfully pointless yet fun journey! BTW, the ‘FROM UNDER THE GLACIER’ thing is one of the three Darren Almond art pieces, in this case "Time Line", that was commissioned for the station. As for the meaning, as per the TFL Art site:
"‘FROM UNDER THE GLACIER’ reminds us of a much slower passage of time: how our journey through this network of tunnels has literally cut through geological time itself."
So now you know :)
That's actually pretty cool!
The much slower passage of time is just taking a class 150 isn't it
The southern limits of ice age glaciers was London.
I really love these pointless journeys, reminds me about myself who like to do similar pointless journeys.
The largest roundel is at Brixton tube station, above the entrance!
He meant underground roundel as in a roundel that's underground
Ealing Broadway Elizabeth line to Ealing Broadway Tube station will take an entertainingly long time depending on the route you take.
One such example route: Ealing (Liz) to Paddington (Liz), Paddington (Praed Street) to Earl’s Court (district), Earl’s Court (Piccadilly) to Acton Town (or Ealing Common), and finally Ealing Broadway (District).
or you take the elizabeth line from ealing broadway to bond street then central line to ealing broadway! 😂
@@zeeshan7156why just to Bond Street when you can go all the way up to Stratford 😂
Actually this method is useful for escaping the extra fare due to exiting a national rail platform.
For example, if you want to go to Canada Water (Zone 2) from Cheshunt (Zone 8), you could tap out at Liverpool Street and change between National Rail and London Underground at Liverpool Street directly, charging you £4.4. However, if you do this "pointless journey", you wouldn't need to tap out at Liverpool Street, and TfL would only charge you £3.6, as your journey would be regarded as "not via Zone 1".
To be fair, with that particular example its probably about 10mins quicker to get on a direct train to Stratford from Cheshunt and also, dont you need to exit the national rail platforms at Liv St from cheshunt to get to the other half of platforms towards Stratford?
could just change at highbury then the walk at hackney
Very good video! A pointless journey suggestion: Walton to Rice Line via Ormskirk, Preston, Bolton, Wigan Wallgate and Kirkby!
That sounds good to me, which is the best way to Liverpool (Bank Arena area) from Standish? Drive to Ormskirk or to Wigan? Or is there a better option?
or just walk the 10 metres
brilliant pointless Journey i really enjoyed this one heres a fee ideas for you for London how about from Paddington Mainline platforms to the Underground platforms Farrington Thameslink to Elizabeth Line or Elephant & castle national rail station to the underground station keep up the awesome work
Nice to see you in my turf. If you are down this way again, try Southend Victoria to Southend Central. A 500 yard walk will take a couple of hours by train 😆. I might have a go myself. Great video by the way 👍
You can always do it more pointless than just this, eg Liverpool high level -> GA train to Stratford -> DLR to Canning Town -> Jubilee line to Canary Wharf -> Elizabeth line to Whitechapel -> District/H&C to Mile End -> Central line to Liverpool Street
7 lines and zero displacement 😂😂😂
I've been thinking that Geoffs getting near retirement. Good to know the succession is sorted.
Well, technically the Elizabeth Line isn't part of the Underground, so you basically went from Liverpool Street Mainline to Liverpool Street Mainline, which sounds even more pointless! lol
So while the platform roundels are bigger at Canary Wharf, it's not the biggest roundels on the network. That'd be the big bugger above the main entrance of Brixton.
Geoff Marshall - "Damn, why didn't I think of that ?"
Idea: London Waterloo (main) to London Waterloo East
SWR to Reading (change if necessary)
Elizabeth Line to Custom House
DLR to Poplar
DLR to Lewisham
SouthEastern to London Waterloo East
Waterloo East - Lewisham - Peckham Rye - Clapham Junction - Waterloo
You could have gotten of the Jubilee Line at Westminster for the District line to Ealing Broadway and then either Liz-line to Liverpool Street or Central Line to Bond Street to add a little pointlessness :) Or with the Jubilee line to Green Park, Piccadilly Line to Acton Town/ Ealing Common and then District line to Ealing Broadway and continuing as mentioned.
Good to see you back down in London! I really love how unique this series is
I enjoyed your pointless journey very much. Where I live in the US, we do not have rail transport, so I enjoy seeing yours. Keep up the good work.
Yeah. London's transport is so vast and amazing and this is the best way to experience that from out train-less homes.
What good work ?!
I mean, you could do Penn to Grand Central, or Boston North to Boston South, but those would both probably be even more circuitous than the ones Nick is doing here... Maybe you'd end up in LA on one of those trips 🤣?
There’s 1 station with high and low level platforms that was opened recently and you could go form the low level to the high level without walking directly
Pointless journeys suggestions:
* Heath High Level to Heath Low Level
* Worcestershire Parkway high level platform to Worcestershire Parkway low level platforms
At 3.47, that was a lie. The largest roundel is at Brixton for Underground (confirmed) & i believe, for overground its Dalston Junction but i may be incorrect.
Loving the pointless journeys. How's about.
Man Vic to Piccadilly but can only leave eastwards and arrive from the West.
Wallgate to Northwestern
Shotton high level to Low level.
Forester Square to Interchange without going through Leeds
The ultimate would be Waverley to Haymarket but not direct.
If you're ever in Glasgow again, there's potential for pointless railway journeys there and it's not easy to pick one, as you have Glasgow Central, Glasgow Central (low level), Glasgow Queen Street, and Glasgow Queen Street (low level) all in rather close proximity to one another.
Also, I will probably use this as inspiration for pointless journeys where I live.
The roundels on the Jubilee Line platforms at Canary Wharf are pretty big, but I think the biggest one has to be at the entrance to Brixton Station on the Victoria Line!!
Journey suggestion: St Pancras main Line to Kings Cross St Pancras via Paris
1: Get the Eurostar to Paris
2: Get the Eurostar back but get off at Ashford
3: Get a Javelin to Stratford International
4: Get the DLR to Stratford
5: Get the Overground to Euston (changing at Wilsden Junction)
6: Get the Victoria Line to Kings Cross St Pancras
maybe one for the future once Eurostar start running services to Ashford again
Great idea, alas Eurostar won't be stopping in Ashford for a year or two.
eurostar no longer calls at ashford int'l
maidenhead to Twyford is a pointless journey and Twyford to Reading is appointments journey and Walgrave to Twyford it is also a pointless journey
Deffo agree about Canary wharf, to me the Jubilee line extension feels like the spiritual predecessor to Crossrail
This was joyous! I love this concept so much. Why take the escalator when you can take MORE TRAINS instead?
London St Pancras to London King's Cross?
A brilliant pointless journey video, I like how you went the scenic route rather than doing that quick route you could of done, it always makes the journey more interesting. :)
I really thought u were going to walk to Moorgate through the Elizabeth line station and take the train back or something
Enjoyed the London edition of Pointless Journeys, any excuse to head to Bond Street lol
Nice vid!! I was thinking of Farringdon Tube to Farringdon Elizabeth Line or Thameslink or West Hampstead Tube or Overground to West Hampstead Thameslink, you've got a pretty nice triangle to give a go. Cheers! 😁😁
Didyou record corresponding Paddington addition when you were in London? You can do the same at St Pancras of course and Moorgate.
He could just go to Stratford and come back on the central line
Have you done Paddington to Paddington on the circle line yet?
Very good, Canning Town is a mad station. How about Manchester Piccadilly using Metrolink, Birmingham New Street using Midlands Metro and Reading Southern lines to Reading Western lines potential via Windsor.
3:47 largest roundel is at Brixton entrance
Isn’t the largest roundel at Brixton?
Waterloo to Waterloo East has various possiblities
I so enjoyed the utter futility of your journey, keep up the good work
How about doing a pointless journey from Cheshunt to Cheshunt, on the Greater Anglia line from Cambridge and on the Overground line by Seven Sisters.
Southend Victoria to Southend Central
I'm going to suggest some journeys forgive me if the list is long or incorrect or you've already done any of them.
Kent: Edenbridge to Edenbridge Town.
Maidstone West to Maidstone East. Canterbury East to Canterbury West.
Other places:
Bromley South to Bromley North.
East Croydon to West Croydon.
Southend Victoria to Southend Central. St. Albans city to st. Albans Abbey.
Birmingham New Street to Birmingham Moor Street.
Dorchester West to Dorchester South.
Yeovil pen Mill to Yeovil Junction.
Hertford East to Hertford North.
Coulsdon South to Coulsdon Town.
Ewell West to Ewell East.
Watford tube stop to Watford Junction train station.
Whyteleafe to Upper Whyteleafe.
Catford to catford Bridge.
canary warth is on the elizabeth line
I've changed from the Central Line (Liverpool Street) to the Northern City Line (Moorgate). I do not recommend it.
That just reminds me of when I some similar in Glasgow back in August last were I went from Glasgow Central to Glasgow Queen Street via the 2 low levels , which was really fun. Were I only used Scotrail off course .
Didn't expect these lengths of pointlessness before clickling. Have you considered Preston Park - London Road (Brighton) via Wivelsfield and Lewes?
I think most of us Tube/train enthusiasts go on pointless journeys but perhaps yours are especially pointless lol. I find the whole "Elizabeth Line" generic and soulless. Much prefer Jubilee Line in terms of station architecture/trains. Enjoyed watching!
You could have gone:
Elizabeth Line (low level) to Forest Gate
Out of station interchange to Wanstead Park
Overground to Walthamstow Queens Road
Out of station interchange to Walthamstow Central
London overground Liverpool Street ('upper level')
Canning Town (Low Level) to Canning Town (High Level) would make an excellent Pointless Journey to try. You could do: Jubilee Line to Stratford, Central Line to Bank and DLR back to Canning Town.
Hey Nick, I have a pointless journey for you 😀 and it's in London. Its between New Southgate (National Rail) and Arnos Grove (Underground).
The route would consist of
New Southgate to Arnos Grove with a change at Finsbury Park
I am a subscriber and watched many of the pointless journey videos
Great video. An idea would be to go from Catford to Catford Bridge Stations, as next door to each other
Geoff Marshall's covered that one already pretty extensively.
You could achieve a simple pointless journey by using the Circle line from Liverpool Street to Moorgate, then descending down to the Elizabeth line platforms from there...
How about Chester to Chester Nick? Chester-Liverpool Lime Street via Merseyrail, then Liverpool Lime Street-Chester via TFW).
If you're ever on tyneside I've got a pointless journey for you. Monument to Monument on the metro system.
It has 4 platforms, all within a 1-minute walk, but you can go to South shields from the lower platform, walk to the ferry, ferry to North shields, shuttle bus back to the metro station, then metro to Monument and arrive on the upper platform. All on one ticket.
You should come down to Hampshire - you can travel from Romsey to Romsey without even needing to change trains. How's that for a pointless journey?
Can you do this without climbing any stairs or using any escalators or lifts? Just changing lines and exiting/entering stations would be sufficient, thank you very much.
I am sure that the idea, like Euston and Euston square is that patrons are supposed to walk between the two stations but if you insist going the long way round. Next do worcestershire parkway high level to low level.
A pointless journey that could be fun - Manchester Piccadilly rail station to metrolink station
Walthamstow central to Walthamstow queen's Rd, might be an easy challenge, but definitely pointless
How about a Glasgow episode? Partick to Partick, using various permutations of Scotrail and the Subway (a unique underground railway!)
The only other interchange with the Subway is Buchanan St/Queen St, so you would have to go there. There's direct connections on both the Subway and North Clyde Lines.
could have just done Stratford to Liverpool Street low level, on an ex-Shenfield service, but this is much more fun
Do a pointless journey from Stratford ( high level) to Stratford ( low level )
you should do the Farringdon to Barbican loop by train and then Elizabeth line platforms, and then add in some extra pointless loop to somewhere else
Idea: Try doing a pointless journeys video without walking outside the station
Should have started by taking the Stansted Express to Tottenham Hale then back to Stratford.
Do Paddington District to Slammersmith and Pity (Hammersmith and City)
You could do St Pancras/King's Cross Higher to lower level
Was quietly hoping that you would shoe-horn in moorgate given that it is now connected to Liverpool St
Love the video, I would love to see Smethwick Galton bridge Lower over to higher level
You could do this anyway years ago with British Rail and the Central line ! So what ?
You should do a pointless journey between Farnborough Main and Farnborough North.
Can you do from platform to platform and if you go one the same plat as earlier you are ou
another pointless journey you could do is Glasgow central high level to Glasgow central low level
I totally agree with you Nick. But very good video. 👍😂
another amazing video as always!
To make it more pointless could of used the morgate entrance then got the tube to Liverpool st lol
Bond Street-farringdon- Farringdon-Liverpool Street more fun.
Love these vlogs - something different
Jubilee vs Central vs Elizabeth Bond Street to Stratford
u should do London St Pancras High level to low level
You speak for us ALL when you ask for aventras up north!
Pointless journey suggestion . :
Euston upper level to lower level
Southend Central to Southend Victoria would be a great one!
Romford to Upminster - but not using the Overground
Have you done a P J from Catford to Catford Bridge......?
Have you ever done New Street to Moor Street in Birmingham?
Should have stayed on till woolwich and have a lot more choice
Try St Budeaux Ferry Road to St Budeaux Victoria Road.
Do London Bridge National Rail to London Bridge underground
I'll go on that journey nick
Great channel .
