Ever since Neo arrived to the Ever After her semblance has evolved mush like Ren's did in Volume 8. She can now make her illusions real beings and that can think, talk and change them to whatever Neo wants them to be.
@@YuriST Yeah, i was 100% worried for both clayxin, Hunter and Arnold’s health the second I’d calmed down from ep 8. Rooster teeth have come out swinging this vol.
A reminder, Alyx POISONED Jaune. He was most definitely meaning, when she left him to die. And as far as he's aware, she isn't the one who died, Louis is.
A small thought I've had regarding the cat (not what I'd call a theory, cause it's not a thought that goes anywhere in particular, but something that I feel has the potential to be more important than we give it credit for right now): When the cat sent Herb back to the tree, he said that he'd given Herb a bit of his heart. Based off the fact that the cat's job is getting Afterans to go to the tree, that leads to two questions: how many times has he had to give a little bit of his heart away? And does he ever get those pieces of heart back? I can't help but wonder if maybe the cat was originally a good person in the Everafter, but after however many years of existence and giving away little pieces of it's heart here and there, what if the cat is slowly becoming more and more heartless?
*-Chapter 7: The Perils of Paper Houses* When an episode starts with a warning, you know things are going to get real. -RWBY quote of the chapter _“Why are you asking me? - Because I'm the leader? Because I'm just supposed to have something to say? Well, I don't.” (Ruby Rose)_ -Unstable Knight After his years of loneliness and after his encounter with the siblings, it seems that Jaune was just trying to, at least, grab on to one solid concept in the Ever After and after Louis' disappearance, convinced himself that ascension was equivalent to death, and from there on, overcompensated in protecting the Paper Pleasers, despite their insistence of their desires, seeing them as children who don't know better, more or less, and effectively confined himself to just keeping himself active. A sliver of hope for him is that with them gone, he'll have no choice but to move on with the others. Interestingly enough, considering what he's gone through and the place he is in, it's amazing that Jaune is still sane for the most part, aware enough that he knows that he wasn't all there mentally. And although older, his basic nature is still unchanged. He still has a habit of snapping at his friends when pressured. It was odd at first that he said he was alone for a long time (before the arrival of the siblings), but it is possible that he got stuck in the same loop as the team, not being able to advance further on. Ultimately, the source of his despair came from his inability to save people. But his words about how to have to live with it goes deeper than that. It's a good bet that he is thinking about what he did to Penny. Regardless of the circumstances, the fact remains that it was he who ended Penny's life. That is something that is going to stick with him for the rest of his life. -Neo's Power Okay, so Neo's power is more than just clones. Evidently, her power is creating near exact replicas, capable of actually feeding on their prey. Is this truly the evolution of her Semblance, or could it be that it is altered by the Ever After, similar to how Ruby's emotions affect the weather? Either way, they are a true threat to the Afterains. But what is Neo's true purpose? If her prime target is Ruby, why create beings that would attack the populace? Is it possible that Neo is hurting Ruby by hurting others in a form of a psychological attack (Jaune did voice as such)? That would make sense. And given Ruby's already fragile state, she is more than capable of breaking her down now. -Ruby's Breakdown We already knew this was going to happen. And we all anticipate on how will Ruby be able to cope with her issue (and further develop her character). But this chapter itself was still... heartbreaking. Her team is (mostly) unaware of her inner turmoil about her identity and are stunned by her inability to fight, not even capable of bearing her once beloved weapon in her hands. That ignorance let to her to snap when they looked to her for assurance. Worse for her friends is the fact that her outburst over her being the leader is only the tip of the iceberg, with Little being the only one noticing that there was something more that was wrong with her. Even Jaune was surprised by her actions and reactions. It is always easy to forget that despite all she accomplished, she is still the youngest out of all of them. It also does calls back to Ozpin's words to her at Beacon in Volume 1. _"Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly."_ Her uncertainty about being a Huntress was hard enough, but it adds greater pressure to her as the leader, pressure that at this moment, might be too much to bear. She needs support to help her now (similar to how Sun was for Blake after she left Beacon), but at this moment, she doesn't want to hear it. And that makes this all the more tragic. She is forgetting (or better yet, she needs a stronger reason) to keep moving forward. Without it, the rose petals with wilter away...
I’m so glad Ruby finally let all her pent up frustration and anger out, Jaune as well, I feel so bad for them both, out of all the main good characters in RWBY, next to Qrow they’ve both definitely suffered the most. All the constant failures and loss of those closest for them ever since Beacon fell made them both reach their breaking point ages ago. The best thing that Jaune and WBY can do for Ruby right now is just leave her alone, nothing they can do or say will make her feel any better, they just need to give her her space, Little as well. Honestly I have no idea how she can possibly pick herself back up by the end of this Volume, because along with feeling like she doesn’t feel worthy of Crescent Rose anymore, she’s starting to realize that being a Huntress was not all that was cracked up to be and the world being one step closer to being eradicated by the Gods. I think the Ruby we know and love is gone for good, we may never see her smile as often as she used go or be as bubbly, because their reality just got that much harder. Jaune as well, being stuck in the Ever After for what I’m guessing is 20 years all alone and being betrayed by Alyx, the regret of being the one to kill Penny, one of his close friends and feeling like he was such a weakling in the Human World, not being strong enough to save Phyrrah, all that has been weighing him down and slowly breaking his psyche, it’s all just one big kerfuffle. I’m honestly scared after seeing this episode and the one that just premiered today how the rest of the Volume is gonna play out and going forward, I’ll still watch it because I love RWBY as much as you two do Cal, but thinking of the possibilities of how this might end gives me butterflies in my tummy.
Yeah the dark squiggles around the edge of the screen like when she saw crescent rose was also there during the flashbacks, showing that it's Ruby's own ptsd
I'm sorry for saying this Calxiyn but I like how real you were with seeing that.. scene.. like.. for once .. you just.. took it so seriously.. without a word.. until like.. it ended.. it just.. felt more.. real with the impact. Definitely looking forward to the next reaction and hope you guys are okay.. it was a great episode.. despite it all.
Theory based on next episode: I think that the cat might have had something to do with this episode’s timing - maybe leading Neo to the village, maybe moving up the schedule on the pebble tower, maybe both - specifically so that there’s no time for the team to realize what’s going on with Ruby.
It could be possible the cat did it and informed the pleasers, either that or they called Neo themselves so the walkers would act as a distraction for Jaune. The way that purple one said "I'm sure it will work this time" made it seem like they knew from the start.
I think the thing that pissed me off the most in this episode is that instead of being a family member and asking what’s wrong and trying to comfort her she decides that Blake is the priority. I get they’re together but COME ON YANG
I think we’re gonna get an Ever After part 2 and the end of the season will reveal who these people behind Neo in the intro are I just don’t see them making it out in 3 more episodes

I love how fixated Cal gets, on neo and on her juniper is alyx theory. If we take the obvious answer (because we know juane doesnt know if alyx died or not) he already had Juniper around. Because it would take time to reach the tree and do everything else. So Juniper cannot be Alyx by extension. Im not ruling out the possibility that Alyx or Lewis was ascended into a new form, but I think its safe to say Juniper isnt the one Also Neo has in many ways been more present than you seem to accept, because she hasnt been visible overtly and hasnt gotten camera focus. But why should she? She cannot deliver exposition she has noone to talk to. Its obvious shes leading an army of jabber walkers but shes more present because shes a fully amorphous threat, that she should be anywhere. I dont think this would be neos last volume, unless they do a lot to catch up the next episodes and cram her through an arc to a resolution, also they cant leave her to tear the ever after apart as she seems content to do.
