    London is one of only two Alpha++ category cities in the world, the other being New York City. Alpha++ is the highest category of city. It basically means it has everything and anything you can think of to the extent that if you had to choose a city to represent the world and be the capital city of the world, it would have to be an Alpha++ city.
    The biggest difference between NYC and London though, is that London has 46% green space vs. 13% in NYC (with over 8.3 million trees, lakes and parks the UN classes it as the world’s largest urban forest), and London has over 2,000 years of history and architecture, which NYC doesn’t. For those reasons, there’s talks of making it the only Alpha+++ city. It really is the ultimate city.

    Just a small correction: those are not fries, they’re chips. Chips are a thicker, fleshier cut of potato whereas fries are from France and are a thinner, crispier cut of potato. French fries are also called fries in the UK.

    I think the reason British food is looked down on is just because the dishes are less complex than other countries’ dishes. And that’s not a bad thing. It’s like pub food being the national standard, and pub food is great 👍🏻

      @@asenseoftravel , excellent video and well explained , love you showing the narrow streets and a bit of history and you walk a few yards low and behold next door is a new tall building with it's quirky nick name , gherkin , Lloyd's insurance inside out building , walkie-talkie etc etc. ( anything less than 100 years is new lol ) .
      Even just adding the date that the building were built does add that bit of class . In Trafalgar Square there is a old police box that has a blue dome on the top that used to flash to let police officers know they were wanted , sadly no longer used but you can see some items through a window. The box is " molded " into the background of the square and most people totally miss it.

    Nice original style of blog. And a slightly different take from the usual USA blogs. But there is much much more to London. As for food, the prices you paid were well over the top if you just get into Londoners London, prices are significantly lower. Plus, there are magnificent restaurants of all types plus street vendors and of course pubs. But pubs are rarely the best place for food, but they do have a very relaxed ambience and a good vibe. Entertainment is everywhere, and the theatre district is amazing.

    Excellent content, mate. however, did you know that the river Thames is the cleanest river that runs through a city in the whole world? It has a muddy sediment bottom, which gives it its (unfortunate) gloomy brown colour

    Looking through your catalogue of reviews, one sees that the world has as much to offer, culturally and architecturally, as London. Paris remains a favourite, although, it has changed dramatically in recent years.

      It’s always comforting to remember just how unique and distinctive even different cities within a country can be! As for Paris, I agree, one of my favorites. I was there recently and a bit disappointed to see a lot of that soulless, boxy 21st century architecture starting to pop up

    Lovely video, trying to evoke all the senses. A small point - Westminster Abbey is an abbey, not a cathedral. There is a 'Westminster Cathedral', the Catholic building, but several hundred yards away from Westminster Abbey, nearer to Victoria Station,.The actual (Church of England) cathedral for London is St Paul's, probably the fourth on the site since Anglo-Saxon times. And there is Southwark Cathedral, on the south bank.

    Growing up in London although it is officially the Elizabeth tower and it’s the bell that is called Big Ben nearly every Londoner refers to the tower as Big Ben. Really enjoyed your video and can see you put a lot of thought and care into it.Great stuff. Incidentally the main reason the Thames is that brown mirky colour is because it is a tidal river but still far from clean as it shoud be. It’s a big scandal in the UK at the moment where water conpanies are making huge profits and polluting the rivers including Old Father Thames.

    • @asenseoftravel
      @asenseoftravel  21 годину тому

      I knew the Thames was tidal, but I didn’t realize that’s why it was so murky! I’ve read so many interesting accounts on the Thames and its old uses. The “Great Stink” in the 19th century immediately comes to mind haha.

    Interesting and different video, for info Warner Brothers studio for Harry Potter, you need the train to Watford Junction, not Watford, which is a completely different location, Americans tend to chop names short which can cause problems, make sure you get the fast express train, not the stopping London overground.

    • @asenseoftravel
      @asenseoftravel  15 годин тому

      That's a good point! We Americans do tend to shorten words and sayings as much as we possibly can, so I can see where that could cause confusion.

    That flag you have up on the video 🇬🇧 should really be this one ➡️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. London is in the country of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and the UK 🇬🇧 encompasses Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and Northern Ireland too. London isn't in their countries though it's part of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.
