lol it's not biased media coverage if it's an american company with an american CEO that's based in america...lol. they aren't a committee that's pledged not to take any sides, they are still allowed to spend more on promoting their home region, endorse american athletes, etc. that's like saying NBC is biased for only celebrating when US athletes win gold medals at the olympics.
Awesome summary of an awesome event. It needs an alternate male and female on the teams though. Injury is part of sports, but having an alternate wouldn't compromise the event either. Thanks HQ for pointing out that Valerie was dealing with the heaviest section of the worm. That was a really bad call obviously, especially injured.
Why is everyone spreading so much hate towards USA in the comments, this was just supposed to be a fun team vs team event, team USA just had a weaker team and worse communication. It was a great competition, and for the people who were just saying mean things about USA, and not talking about CrossFit, do it somewhere else, not on a CrossFit video
Hi Jay, fully agree, comments shouldn't be negative, both teams did an amazing job. I just guess that everyone likes to see the "underdog" win so in this sense it truly is inspirational! :-)
No matter how Chan coached his team, not everyone could handle the volume with no rest between WODs during the competition. Emotional video, incredible storytelling!!!
I love people crapping on Team USA for losing (narrowly) to a star-studded and very competitve team hand picked from every other country in the world, or people crapping on Vobril, she's a badass. This is just an incredibly, astonishingly tough event. Can't this just be a badass comptetition that means CF is growing world wide? Damn people. On that note, go USA.
Did you know there are '3 times' as many Crossfit boxes in the USA compared to the rest of the world? Any multiple country argument is nonsense at this time, but hopefully that will change. I look forward to the day when there are enough Crossfitters to fairly divide the world team: Team Europe, Team Africa, Team South America, etc. Go 'the best athletes(and I do not care where you are from)?
Granted that the US is the birthplace of CF and we have the lion's share of boxes.. We're takling about the elites here though. In sheer volume the US would utterly smash the rest of the world simply because we can put up so many more athletes on a higher level. But when your speaking of the elites it becomes a different story. There are so many non-US good athletes and good crosfitters in competition to day that you can't really make that distinction anymore. Had this been in '08, '09, or even '10 it might be a little different as CF was just starting to take hold even here. But witht there being so many more regionals and so many more international people coming to the Games your seclusion argument is also nosense. Go USA. In the games, I root for Chad McKay, Camille, etc.. But although I want them to perform well and stay safe I cannot help but root for a US victory.
Jped34 I travel a lot and I can say hand on heart that Crossfit outside the USA is still in it's early stages. On that basis, so many elite athletes are still unaware. My seclusion argument stands, but diminishes by the day. It was Team USA vs Team World as CrossfitHQ knew that was the best and current fairest option. One day Team World will no longer be fair and the number of teams will increase......GREAT! The good thing is that we can expect to have a lot more internationals competing at every level in the future. The bad news is that competition for American athletes can only get tougher. I do hope that CrossfitHQ my donate equipment one day to third-world boxes. Be good to see some great athletes appearing from nowhere to surprise us.
I am not doubting that CF to the general populace is still (in a developmental sense) behind in the rest of the World as it is in the USA. But for the ELITES the difference is not great in the least. Not when The last three femaile champions have been female and there are such great male competitors like Mikko, McKay, Lucas Parker, Dominic-LaRouche, etc. I agree that for general people CF is behind, but those with the ability to compete it can't realistically be behind. I love seeing more competition, that's just how the CF community is. But I will always be a diehard USA fan.
I think everyone needs to just relax. It was fun show, and there is always next year. The blame game is not an honorable thing to take part in. There are always more factors to a loss than you think. Plus, at the highest level of things, it is more about who the most fresh, pumped, relaxed, and motivated that particular day. We all love Crossfit, period. Good job by both teams!
I have watched this video like a 100 times.. and every time I do.. I think its so funny how when they slow down the mens muscle ups (usa) and it looks so awesome. When in reality, its like torture... Dave Chappelle the slow mo skit
"These guy's feel the exact same way you do. We're all good, hey hey, listen, we're all fucking good, we do crossfit, fuck this shit, i wan't you guys to get out here and fucking destroy this workout." - Matt Chan. Love you man.
That's a problem with team events, if an event comes down to weakest link vs weakest link, where is the team effort represented in the score? In the final event the majority of team usa was over the line first, but they still scored nothing, because one of their team came in last (assuming Ben could have gone faster) and it's not as if someone could help or push the weakest link when it's about a single effort carrying a weight over the finish line.
left out is team USA's women's transitions on the overhead squats being a ridiculous back to back exchange, and the USA men adopting team World's strategy of holding the ends and swapping a person out.
I love this video - US team is great but it's also cool when the underdogs win! And team World has amazing athletes who are still competing today - Sam Briggs is legend!!!
Bro I'm a bodybuilder myself and come 2nd and 3rd in competitions so I know a little. Crossfit is all about body functionality not strict strength movements. Any of these guys in this video have impeccable form especially when it comes to olympic lifts and can lift more than most people and still perform gymnastic skills which takes a lot of mobility and functionality. Watch a gymnast bro and then go tell them their form is sh*t because I bet you won't as they are going for functionality not strict strength movements.
Brayden Green First of you'r accomplishment has absolutely nothing to do with this argument, wrong is still wrong, bad form is still bad form no matter if you are Mr Olympia or not. I agree they are stronger then average people who do not lift. But mediocrity do not impress me. If we look at Rich Froning, poster-boy for crossfit. I bean lifting for about 3 year now and I almost outlifts Rich in some of the basic movement like the squat and deadlift. He is suppose to be a world class athlete and I am little chubby whitboy with bad gens and don't have the option to train for a living. I'm NOT saying that I'm right because I almost outlift Rich. I am saying that Crossift in general is not impressive at all when it comes to strength because I almost outlift them with only 3 years of training. I never criticize there gymnastic skill or the way there perform that movement. I know very little about gymnastic so would never even try to correct someone on that. But when it comes to basic strength movements like the Squat, Bench & Deadlift crossift has no idea what they are doing or how to lift. If Crossfit want to redefine the Bench Press so they are allowed to bounce as much as they like of the chest and kick with the legs while doing the movement. They are free to do so but don't call it a Bench Press because that's not what they are doing. Just like crossift did with pull-ups, they redefined it to fit there purpose and named it kipping or butterfly pull-ups where form is not something in mined. That's the hole point of Crossfit, to see who is most mediocre in the most movements we can find without caring about form. There is noting wrong about liking crossift, no one like every sport there is. But just be honest about the sport and don't make claims that are not true or get buthurt because someone is stating the obvious flaws in a sport.
I am trying to say I know a bit about form. Mediocre lifts? you have to be kidding me. First of all a lot of these guys lift quite heavy weights like froning or khalipa.Secondly their muscular endurance to continually keep lifting those weights is outstanding whilst doing other movements around that. You are purely basing them on strength which is not what it is about so maybe you lift me than some crossfit athletes but whats your muscular endurance like with those weights? I know when I first did a workout my endurance sucked, first round of deadl lifts was easy but man was hard to keep going with that weight after coming back to it after a couple other exercises. If you are going to criticise the pull up you are criticising gymnastics as that is where the technique derives from. There has been many videos on this debate and a cross fitter can bang out just as many strict pull ups as kipping or butterfly but if you are doing a WOD for time well then strict isn't the fastest way to go where as butterfly is, therefore functionality coming into play again. If you've ever been to a proper crossfit box man you would know form is number 1 so therefore you are going off only by what you've seen and yeah maybe sometimes these guys will force a rep in a competition in order to win or get ahead but training wise they will only ever make sure their form is on point. So no what you say is not truth but ignorance.
Team world wasn't cocky and they paid attention to details. Unfortunately, team usa didnt have the strongest women line-up and struggled to recover/overcome some intimidating performances from team world.
World's victory was not surprising at all. You are only ever as strong as your weakest member and the USA women showed they simply couldn't compete. Valenzuala was incredible but the other two got tired and hampered the team effort.
Not impressed with Matt Chan. No reason to drop the "F" Bomb in almost every sentence. I understand the motivational tactics behind it, but not very classy as millions will soon view this.
Steven Ewald absolutely not! Its a coach's responsibility tu choose a right athlete in a right place. Leading athlete shouldn't be Valerie at all. It must be the strongest athlete who also can coordinate with teamates and have communication skills!
"we do crossfit, fuck this shit" haha i love that guy
If Team USA had won there would be loads of 'celebratory' videos. Biased media coverage by CrossfitHQ?
Anybody else notice the strange silence?
lol it's not biased media coverage if it's an american company with an american CEO that's based in america...lol. they aren't a committee that's pledged not to take any sides, they are still allowed to spend more on promoting their home region, endorse american athletes, etc. that's like saying NBC is biased for only celebrating when US athletes win gold medals at the olympics.

The didnt invite Annie Thorisdottir cause they know she can beat team USA all by herself :D
she's recovering from injury
let me try one more time: The didnt invite Annie Thorisdottir cause they know she can beat team USA all by herself :D ( SARCASM mode ON)...
Him or me? :P hehehehe ^_^
Thanks for doing Canada proud Camille

That smile at 10:30.. Priceless!
"I'd headbut you all right now but I think it would be inappropriate" hahahah
Ben Smith's "Fuck my life" face at 10:20...
This competition was frigging awesome to watch, hopefully there will be more!!
No matter how Chan coached his team, not everyone could handle the volume with no rest between WODs during the competition. Emotional video, incredible storytelling!!!
i just wanna know where Rich got his wrist wraps...
was not impressed with Matt's coaching.
i need matt chan to make a motivational mixtape. my muscles would have muscles

and where are the celebratory videos? There would have been loads if Team USA had won. Com'n CrossfitHQ and lets have fair media coverage on this!!!
Chan underestimated Team World. That was the beginning of the fall.
Song at the end: Amphibious Zoo - Truth Is No
At last. Thank you very much.
Voboril lifting the heaviest piece is a coaching error.
Americans need to stop being bitter and just congratulate TEAM WORLD
Why are peope b*tchin about which team sucks. They're/we're all Crossfitters, just enjoy the show and show some sportsmanship. It was a great event.
Great competition!! That was really enjoyable to watch.
I have watched this video like a 100 times.. and every time I do.. I think its so funny how when they slow down the mens muscle ups (usa) and it looks so awesome. When in reality, its like torture... Dave Chappelle the slow mo skit
Holy Christ Khalipa is huge!
Voboril makes me sick. 9:00 yeesh
4:59 the champs getting fuked up by jason haha
Ryan Roarty Hahaha! And rich just walks away. Hilarious
Funny, as far as I can tell, to be a true crossfitter, you have to use the "F" word every 1.2 seconds....
i have tears in eyes ..great video
"These guy's feel the exact same way you do. We're all good, hey hey, listen, we're all fucking good, we do crossfit, fuck this shit, i wan't you guys to get out here and fucking destroy this workout." - Matt Chan. Love you man.
Heber Cannon, you sir do some good shit.
Great video.

How come no one knows the song at the end?
Epic highlights!!!! Great stuff!!!!
Great video, what's the last song called?
this is, what fitness is about..
so it was a coaching error by having Valerie hold the heaviest weight..wtf..
team USA too arrogant.
please explain
left out is team USA's women's transitions on the overhead squats being a ridiculous back to back exchange, and the USA men adopting team World's strategy of holding the ends and swapping a person out.
Great video!
both deserve respect
I love this video - US team is great but it's also cool when the underdogs win! And team World has amazing athletes who are still competing today - Sam Briggs is legend!!!
Great job to both team!!
There is next year. Good job team world. I don't see that happening again.
can't wait to see Rich in more team events. Something tells me his team will do quite well.
This video makes me like Matt Chan even more than I already did.
whats the last song?!?
id headbutt y'all right now but i think it would be inappropriate..haha Gold!
Pull-ups???.....................
We'll win next time
does anyone know what the name of the song is that is playing during the last event?
Camille has perfect form compared to Sam Briggs
This is crossfit, they never heard about form.
robin L lol you're an idiot

Team USA should be thankful that good Russian and Chinese Athletes doesnt do Crosslift.
Team world wasn't cocky and they paid attention to details. Unfortunately, team usa didnt have the strongest women line-up and struggled to recover/overcome some intimidating performances from team world.
Is there any anti-doping testing in place for the crossfit games? or is it just a free for all?
Well done
Can someone please tell me the soundtracks used in this video?
We all know why team USA lost but its just a competition, not life or death
Front person takes most of the load.... One of the guys shoulda been at the front, like Chad!!
I love seeing an upset!! Lets go
Crazy, awesome and badass
Yeahhhhhh ... team world
Music in the end please ?
Last music name ? Someone knows it ?
Fire Castro

0:25 too bad we lost :(
Some people take this shit way too seriously.
i have such a man crush on Chad Mackay. Don't know if it's just cause we're both Aussie or what.
Mr Chan. You made a big mistake. We live and learn.
thats great, very outstanding but those excercises will lead them to a hospital bed. lets hope nothing bad happens
Awesome :)
Sam Briggs should better watch her back during the exercises - this is going to cause an another injurry!
Yea, maybe you should write to her. She obviously needs help..
heyy! noboody invited me to this event :(
World's victory was not surprising at all. You are only ever as strong as your weakest member and the USA women showed they simply couldn't compete. Valenzuala was incredible but the other two got tired and hampered the team effort.
that was fun... :)))
If Team USA had only included Froning they would have won.. The others were pulling the team down (^^,)
07:05 who is she ?? Lindsey ???
Sabutay Khan Lindsey Valenzuela, 2nd fittest in 2013. Didn't go to 2014 games but is in the Cali regional this year.
Maggie Siu thanks :)
5:00 - 5:04 lol
Not impressed with Matt Chan. No reason to drop the "F" Bomb in almost every sentence. I understand the motivational tactics behind it, but not very classy as millions will soon view this.
They aren't doing real muscle-ups and pull-ups !
Real muscle-ups and pull-ups do not include Inertia !
Personal opinion ~
Team USA crushed
Please, name of the song!
Wow Wow WoooooooooooW !!
They should just have men vs men and women vs women.
always bad language, social problems?
Дмитрий Клоков а в этом году мир выиграл!
USA vs. WORLD...LOL MURICA
Matt Chan was the weakest member of the team USA
IKO -XII The loss was 100% Valerie's fault. She was gassed after one fucking workout
Steven Ewald absolutely not! Its a coach's responsibility tu choose a right athlete in a right place. Leading athlete shouldn't be Valerie at all. It must be the strongest athlete who also can coordinate with teamates and have communication skills!
IKO -XII He should have picked laren fisher instead of valerie
IKO -XII i
