Thanks so much for making it possible for me to show this commercial to my children and grand children. I am very flattered that you asked me to write this story. When I was almost 4 years old, my family went on a family trip from Nebraska to Southern California to visit my Dad's best friend, who was also my Godfather. Both of my God Parents were in the acting business and they talked my parents into taking me to meet their agent, Herb Tannen. Apparently Herb thought I would be a good fit for him, and while we were in California for our visit, I went on an audition for a Ford Torino car. We went back home to Nebraska and a couple of weeks later, Herb Tannen's office called and said I got the part. I don't remember very much of the commercial. because I was only 4fourat the time. I do remember that the commercial also starred Teri Garr. Well, the whole family moved to California so I could be on TV. I was hired to do the Nestle Quik commercial when I was six. Somewhere around 1975. Here is what you probably don't know about that commercial, It was originally supposed to be me and Adam Rich, the youngest kid from Eight is Enough. He was apparently having a bad day, or something. He refused to do what the director told him to do, and he got fired. We were all told to go home and come back tomorrow. They found a new actor, and we finished the shooting that next day. The budget for this commercial probably was double because of that. It's a good thing it was so successful. It was the longest running commercial out of all of them that I did. It ran for four years, and was later temporarily sold to Puerto Rico for a year, or so. I was quite busy for several years. I had the opportunity to be in 50 commercials, guest star on Quincy ME, different strokes, and I was chosen to be in a movie. The movie was originally called The Sea Gypsies, but later the name of the movie was changed to Shipwreck. I was 8 when that movie was shot. One day there was an article about me in the Variety. My dad brought it home and he was livid. Apparently in this article, they said I was an up and coming star and they compared me to Jodie Foster. My Dad only wanted me to do rated "G" things and was so upset that they compared me to her. He said "Shannon, whatever you do, do not turn out to be like Jodie Foster". That has become an inside joke between my friends and family. So often I wished I had the opportunity to meet Jodie Foster and tell her this story. There wasn't as much work coming in for me when I was around eleven or twelve. My agent called it an age gap. I also suspect it was because my parents couldn't afford to give me braces. As you can see in the video, I really needed them. We moved away from California because of the high cost of living in Hollywood. Eventually, my family moved to Colorado when I was 16, and that is where I still live today. I have been married for thirty-two years and we have three grown children, two daughters-in-law, and one granddaughter. We own a family business, a bakery. We (meaning my husband, myself, and our children) have worked hard, and built a fabulous reputation for our baked goods in Colorado and surrounding areas. It's something that we will be able to leave to them when we are ready. I am very proud of us! Every once in a while I wonder "what if". If we hadn't moved. If I was able to get braces. If I would have had my "big break". I don't think that is what the universe had in store for me. My husband grew up in Southern California and we often wondered if we would have met if my life had taken a different turn? Who knows, we may have met anyway. Would I be the same person, or would fame have changed me? I don't know. I will always be grateful for the experiences I had in my childhood, as I know they helped shape me into the person I am today. I have so many stories! I am very blessed, and my life is good. My husband and I have had the opportunity to take some wonderful trips, and we have plans to do more of that very soon. Hey, Dad!!!!! Don't worry, I didn't turn out to be like Jodie Foster. On the very slim chance that Jodie Foster ever reads this. I want you to know that I was so honored to be compared to you. I just couldn't tell my Dad that when I was kid, he was scary. Thank you so much for asking me to write this story. It brought back a lot of memories.

Best comment on a retro commercial EVER. That was amazing, thank you! I watch a lot of retro commercials and there's many UA-cam channels honoring them. You should definitely try to collect them in a Playlist for your family! :)

The Quik bunny was animated at Duck Soup Produckions, who did several other of these Quik spots.

Comin' with the hot take! I'll wager there's television programming that rivals a 44 yr old Nestlé ad. The Wire? Seinfeld? Sesame Street? Actually, most any PBS show from the 80s and 90s.
No way I'm giving my kids a glass of milk with a bunch of chocolate flavored sugar-powder before bed! Recipe for years of sinus issues and possible diabetes.

I don't watch television anymore, nor should anyone with intelligence or respect for his people. If you get what I mean.

Nestlé really screwed the pooch when they renamed Quik to "NesQuik". Is there a campaign to get them to change it back? If so, me and like hundreds of other people in my circle would sign that in a heartbeat.
