    It's true when you said most people stop making art within 5 to 10 years. Most of my classmates quit art several months after graduating in 2018. It was very hard finding a job in animation for everyone in school but I didn't give up. I kept going. Now I'm a wayy better artist than I was in school. I have more confidence and I plan to continue trying my best to make money as an independent artist. :D

    I've mentored about a dozen people and it surprised me the ones who turned out great and made careers weren't the ones who learned quickly but the ones who never gave up. I find that people need help with loosening up more than learning the fundamentals. Practice only means something once you find what excites you and makes you smile and laugh. So long as you have fun, you'll never give up.

      Absolutely! That’s great that you’ve been able to help as many people as you have 😁 what kind of program did you do that through?
      I’ve also found that the top artists I knew in school stopped making art the fastest once they were out. It’s pretty common

    I am starting my first art show at 21 years old soon, and I’m in crunch time and it’s very overwhelming to be honest! This video came to me at the perfect time, since I have always had doubts if I’m good enough to make it, esp now. I love your art and advice, thank you!

      @@TheArtMentordefinitely “outlast your peers” 😂 if I make mistakes, then I can always learn from them as long as I keep going and working on my art. I hate feeling like I made the wrong choice or am wasting my time. But there is always time to change it up and still make it work somehow, and this was a great reminder of that! I also like the idea of working on your art an extra hour, since I find myself fixing my art long after I think I’m done lol. Thank you for the good wishes! Even if this show isn’t good, there is always the next one 😁

    How doesn't your channel have 100k+? This is top level advice and content. By the way, could you talk about study/work time splitting? I say this because I see a lot of artists selling all their hours for commissions and not reserving a bit of their time to do actual observation studies, gestual, warm-ups etc.

    There is something very satisfying about watching your work take shape. there are moments in the breaking wood and fire details that make me think of times where I'm stepping from that "I don't know about this one" to "Yeah, this idea is really coming together"

      @@Lumolla what i do is i watch art youtube videos, see if they have a discord, lurk in the background for a week or two, and then introduce myself if/when i decide it’s a good one. My personal three favourites have been Sean’s, Kelsey Rodriguez’s, and Loishs. I tried about 20 of them but those have a nice balance of having activity but not full of bots and people only giving feedback when asked. I haven’t been mocked at all for my drawings in those

    Man, these are all really valuable tips! The part with taking time really resonated with me, as I'm the person who's always worried that I may not be drawing fast enough, especially since I want to be a concept artist. I've come to realize speed isn't an important factor in creating good art, and I should allow myself to take the time I need to produce the best art I can. Sometimes I feel the need to come back another day to see if there are any mistakes I've missed, so taking extra time after saying "'I'm done" is actually super important. There's no pain quite like seeing all the mistakes you missed and changes you want to make to your artwork *_after_* already posting it 🥲

    • @monstxrblade
      @monstxrblade 10 місяців тому

      Yes!! I totally relate to this, I went thru my “instagram phase” where I would post so much, I’d get burnt out and not draw for months anyway lol. It’s much better to put in the time that **you** want instead of what the algorithm wants, esp cus the algorithm has done artists so dirty lately 😢
