Switched over to a strap this year and did it this way.
Bought a 20' 3000# tow strap with hooks on both ends for 15.00.
Cut it in half and have a spare now.
I used the Gorilla tape as well, and I have a roller fairlead.
    This worked remarkably well.

I just wanted to tell you thanks for the video. My cable broke plowing snow yesterday and I used your method to put an old recovery strap that I had on the winch. I am thinking about just letting the strap on for plowing and come spring, putting a new cable on. Thanks again.

If you find yourself breaking straps, I have an upgraded setup with a roller fairlead. Though, if you're using steel cable you already have a roller fairlead. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

@@westhigginsorv Yeah I have a roller fairlead. The bottom roller was a little scored up from my cable so I took some sandpaper to it before I put the strap on. Your welcome for watching and the comment. Take it easy.

I wished I would have watched this a couple of hours ago. I had a pain in the rear installing my strap, where I used a rope through a loop end , and then hog ringed the two ends of the rope together. I had a hard time getting the rope into the winch and then to tighten it. Oh well thanks again.

I use synthetic rope with a roller fairlead. Been using the same setup for four years and have never had an issue.

I like this idea w/the tape & friction - I have atv winch on blazer for snow & strap broke @ both ends - I realized buddy had riveted it on @ spool end - just allow myself extra strap...the actual replacement strap is on 24'' & they want $50 for it lol

It's just one of those crappy ones that comes in a plastic case. It claims to be 5,000 lbs. Thanks for watching!

Warn makes a special roller fairlead for atv's that has an oversize bottom roller. Bet a roller fairlead would be easier on the strap than a hawse. Nice vid. Tks

I have an updated version of this video with a KFI roller fairlead. It works much nicer. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I believe using a " keel " pulley used for boats will do the job.

I agree and if I find the roller fairlead doesn't work, I'll be doing that. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hi, how well did your strap work for your plow?

    • @westhigginsorv
      @westhigginsorv  4 роки тому +2

It worked better than the rope, but I still broke it when I got a plow load of heavy wet snow stuck to the blade. Thanks for the reminder... I want to add a pulley this year to reduce the angle between the winch and the plow. Thanks for watching too!

Hi, interesting video! I'm just wondering about your "adding a pulley" comments. Do you think it would it be less stressful on the strap if you were using a roller fairlead, instead of a Hawse? I'm not sure if that's what you meant, or some other type of pulley arrangement.

    • @westhigginsorv

@@floobertuber The strap video is way more popular than the newer video right now too. Maybe I should tweak my keywords.

I'm not trying to be that guy but please don't have your hands that close to a winch fairlead. As we all know accidents happen quickly.
