Not for hating, but I don't think that Hirule's and Termina's values are necessarily related.
(Also, sorry for the grammar)
@@giorgiogiovannimattio3276 No worries! You have a point, which is one of the reasons I settled with a value of 50 rupees
Like "yo' bro, thanks for passing by, I'm good here, take some gold, no worries, pass by whenever you have the chance".
NBC, I fully expect a theory on the new BoTW trailer
NintendoBlackCrisis Diamonds are “rare” sure in reality it’s one company that just controls where all diamonds go and how many
Diamonds are the most common gemstone in the world. Rubies sapphires and emeralds are far more valuable when the gem market isn't involved.
The value of the stones comes from a marketing campaign claiming if a man doesn't spend a months wages on a diamond for his wide then he is not worth marrying
Artificial scarcity is the reason why diamonds are so expensive because the families that own the worthless gems keep the supply low to maximize the amount they can sell them for
Yup with exception of some specific diamonds of course but it's a scam
Decent sized diamonds without significant flaws are more rare, it's not like without the marketing they'd be priced like industrial diamond. Still inflated massively though.
You can even create thek artificially with high pressure, high temperatures and some Carbon.
But these wouldn't be nice for being used as jewleries, therefore you can use these for tools instead
Jiovani's gold experience taught him a valuable lesson: all that glitters ain't gold.
they may be rupees after all
J O J O
I’m gonna comment in all of your comments just because I see you everywhere.
Hey now!
Some are humans turned to gold, such as jiovani
Hi, love the video. I just wanted to say that rupees have different purchasing power in OoT and TP. Using the hylian shield as an example, it costs 80 rupees in OoT and 200 rupees in TP. I did the conversion into TP rupees using the 3,000 rupee value of his soul, and it would increase the value to 7500. Using the same conversion, the min is 1,500 TP rupees and the max is 30,000 rupees
Going based purely on inflation of the rupee's value as time passes between the events of OoT and TP is a very interesting way to look at it. I was thinking that the minimum a Hylian soul could be worth is 20,000 rupees based on my own logic. 20,000 - 30,000 rupees seems like a good range.
You forget that you have litteraly only one Hylian Shield in TP, while you can buy you a new one every time you lose it in OoT, so its normal that the Shield in TP is propably a bit more expensive.
@Mister Wheyne What about the hylian shield of BOtW?
Nice video, though I want to add something:
In TP, Link needs to use Wolf's ability to see/attack Poes. Which means that, while there are 60 Poes out there, normal Hylians can't lay their hands on them.
It's different in OOT and MM, which Link can not only see them but can also kill them with pretty much anything. But let's say only Link could see the Poes in these games: Given the fact that He'd be the only one fetching them, both Link and the guy that buys them in OOt could set up basically any price, considering Link would have no one else to sell them, and the guy wouldn't have no one else to buy them from.
Another thing is that when Jovani's soul was negotiated, there were (apparently) no Poes out there, meaning if there was inflation, it happened right after that.
“3,000 rupees is a lot”
BOTW rupee grinding:

"Am I a joke to you?"
NintendoBlackCrisis
Well yes, but actually no
Great vid btw
Breath of the Wild takes place waaay in the future when the value of the rupee has dropped due to inflation. It's like how $100 was a lot to our grandparents but $100 is almost nothing to us
You can't say you've truly grinded rupees in botw until you have atleast 100,000 rupees.ive done it
A small price to pay for salvation
@@redx4401 I like to collect apples from this one orchard I found, bake them, then sell them
I wonder who he actually sold his soul to, I mean he just references a dark creature, so it could be anything.
It could possibly be a Twili, as they are prominent in this game, but he says he sold it long ago.
Twili ? Nah ... It's been centuries that they were banished to the Shadow Realm.
Zant is not a good trickster, and the Shadow Beasts are not communicative at all, the only thing they would do to him is turning him into a shadow Beast, like what they've done to an old woman at Kakariko.
It's clear that this is a Demon, just like the horned statue, that makes profite out of Hylian's greed.
Maybe it was someone like the statu from BOTW which could be why they were traped in the statu since making a deal with someone and terning them into gold is a pretty bad thing. Plus he makes a deal with the Govoni like how he makes deals with Link
The demon in skyward sword
Most likely? The Poe.
Poe are soulless ghosts that wander around - it'd make sense for them to covet that which they lack. Heck, you even go around collecting the bits of his soul *from* Poe.
Nanoro_bot
...and in Windwaker a bunch of small poes = one LARGE poe. So, he sold it to a boss poe, who then split apart into 56 of imp poes and 4 poe-poes to increase the odds of at least retaining SOME of it if something started hunting it (arguably the TP poes are the strongest as you need to be a tough animal to harm them at all, while random shop keepers buying poe souls in other games implies that they could go and hunt the poes themselves/hire others to do it besides just Link. So, TP poes are evolved?)
Wait, I understand that there are 60 Poes in the game, which would make them common, but the game made it pretty obvious that there wasn't many people in Hyrule capable of finding these spirits, let alone killing them to collect their souls.
I mean they cant even be interacted with unless you're wolf link.
Wouldn't that mean that poes souls would be super rare and thus super expensive?
Nah cost comes from demand. What the hell do you do with a Poe soul?
PieGuyonline ! That would be the case in LOZ OoT and LOZ MM, however there is no market for Poe Souls in Twilight Princess. That's why this video and my question were made. There can't be a market for something that as far as, we the players know, is impossible to attain unless you're a supernatural wolf boy. Not many people get to be one of those
Considering the cat can just keep giving you silver rupees indefinitely. It's possible the value of the soul was limitless, and Jovanni was granted with truly endless wealth for his soul. Of course that means those people buying Poe souls off you are ripping you off, but hey, how would they know?
A poe is a lingering spirit consumed with hatred for the world (for various reasons), that's a spirit's remnants, not the whole soul. As said, 60 poes are worth 1 mortal spirit.
Firstly I love the FMA shows. Secondly I got the notification just as I got the last memory in botw finally.

I did a double take when i saw the title and thought you were crazy for a minute, but then you did what you do best: Slap us all in the face with legit zelda logics lol. Love your channel!
Not really legit logic. The calculations ignore all of the gold Jovani got in direct exchange, all of the circumstances surrounding the poes, the fact that only animals can see them in the first place, and the foundation of the theory is even based on the pure guesswork of a poe soul in the game. It doesn't even take into account that a human soul--even if it were made up of a bunch of other souls--would be worth more than its components.
Nice theory, now I'mma go start watching that anime

WELL
Fun fact! Diamonds aren’t actually that rare. It’s just the diamond industry controls the supply to make you think it’s rare when it isn’t :)
Yeah. He actually touched up on that in the video
I think he misspoke a bit at first, but later in the video he does clarify that diamonds aren't all that rare. What he should have said in the beginning was not that diamonds are rare, but that they are supplied in fewer numbers at a time than are actually available in general. Of course that would be a bit bloated though.
Yeah, controlled market
Well no shit
I love how people still don't forget about Twilight Princess even though it's been like 13 years. Great video my good sir!
Well, it did just get a remaster 3 years ago.
You forgot that removing the soul and splitting it into 60 pieces voids the warranty. This really tends to devalue the soul.
*_HOLD IT !_*
Those are not real Poe's Soul, those are fragments of Jiovani's Soul(and probably his Cat).
Those aren't even Poes ポゥ (Pō) , those are ポゥフィー (Pōfī).
If you look closely to them, they are just puppets animated by the fragments of Jiovani's Soul.
Poes are the Soul of Dead people consummed by bad emotions that refuse to rest.
The value of a Soul may varies over its composition.
There are many colors for Poe souls, Green, Pink, Orange ... representing the emotions felt by the dead that allow it to stay in the living realm.
Stronger emotions may also increase the value alongside its rarity.
Jiovani's Soul is also not tainted unlike a Poe's Soul.
The Purity of his Soul might play a role too.
(Even if he's a little greedy)
The Soul of a Dead and the Soul of a Living might not have the same value too.
There are many factors to consider.
One being the resolve of the purchaser, the Demon Jiovani sold his soul to, we don't know who set the price.
Nonoctoro poes and yokai are the same?
@@Aidensan11 Nah, some yokai are Ghosts but not all Yokai.
Inflation is not well defined if you consider that in all cases you have a single customer in this games. There is no market. Additionally, you need to consider that demand is also important. For the OoT guy this souls are nice, but for this guy they are worth his life, and he still only gave you 200 XD. But nice video, was interesting to approach it with the limitations of this games!
I don’t think the understanding of inflation is accurate.
Inflation is the increase in cost of items due to a decrease in value of currency. Inflation is an increase in cost, not a decrease.
What you are referring to is simple supply and demand, not inflation.
I really like these new theories you are making, they are fresh and have new ideas incorporated into them.
Awesome vid. Good job!
I just thought I'd mention that there are four other poes in the Arbiter's Grounds that could easily be classified as big Poe souls, not just small Poe souls.
That is the cost to buy back a Hylian soul. The actual price is what the demon payed the gold man, which was apparently untold.
That's actually extremely intriguing. Nice theory!
The concept you described in the video isn't "inflation". It's "supply and demand". Inflation refers to the change in "buying power" of a currency. The two concepts relate when you apply supply and demand to the currency itself, but the relationship is complicated and not applicable here.
What if the value of a hylian soul depends on the owner? Like if Jiovani's soul was less valuable because of his greed. That would put an interesting spin on this!
I think so too. Greed, specifically hatred, devalues it considerably. Since the Goddesses have made a vast VAST world, and said world has an infinite number of parallel worlds, so there's an infinite variation of the same soul, and yet in spite of sheer numbers, the lesser gods themselves intervene on behalf of mortals. This indicates each and every soul is unique and of incalculable value, regardless. The number of souls in existence, living or deceased seem to be irrelevant to them.
So the video simply shows us this: A demon would give you a mountain of treasure for your soul. A god wouldn't dare put a price tag on your soul. A Poe, being a lost soul full of hatred towards the world and life, has reduced itself to being only worth a fraction, 1/60th of an uncorrupted soul. There doesn't seem to be any taboo from the gods to purchase or sell Poes on the black market either.
there are big poes in Twilight Princess (Arbiter's), but they drop the same souls as small ones
The cat gives you unlimited rupees, therefore souls are priceless. Also, Giovanni is obviously greedy, so maybe he ripped off Link by giving him too little pay.
Hi there.
I think you should think about selling Poes in Oot/MM and selling Poe's Souls in Twilight Princess. I mean, you catch poes in bottles as they are; the "St. Elmo" fire form is not the soul of a Poe but his weaker form. Maybe is the fact that in TP you can see their real core as you can use wolf's abilities to see 'em, so you are not catching a weakened Poe in TP, you are catching the spiritual remains of a Poe and that's why the hylian soul takes another approach in TP's background.
Yes, we don't know the type of Poe we fight in TP yet, but maybe the Poe's soul is so rare that no-one has catched one before due to the fact that cursed hylians cannot communicate with humans and the only way you are able to help Jovani is through his cat.
New vid=Cool Vid. Nicely done!
In Skyward Sword you can get the Tycoon Wallet from Batreux after bringing him 80 gratitude crystals. It looks like Jovani's face.
There are big Poes! In the arbiter's grounds there are those tall/long Poes and every where else there are these tiny bratty ones with scythes!
4:00 No, dude, that's wrong. It's being held back by those who mine it in order to create artificial inflation.
One thing that should be remembered is that people often don't realize that value of something until it is taken away from them, or if it is scarce. Value is subjective depending on the customer, the merchant, and the circumstances. For example, if society were to collapse, food and energy sources for machines would most likely be considered more valuable than gold. People like Jovani and the Poe collector might assume that a soul has a finite value because every person has one, making it a common thing, but they would be wrong because it's what makes us who we are. No amount of wealth, knowledge, or power is worth the unexplainable source of consciousness and emotions we all have.
NBC posting so frequently is making my day! 😁😁😁
Glad to hear!
One small counterpoint: value isn't just determined by how much of something exists, but also by how difficult it can be to obtain. The Poes in Twilight Princess require far more specialized skills to take out compared to the Poes in the N64 games, so I would imagine that would increase the value quite a bit.
NBC is slowly becoming MatPat XD
I mean, I even got my own cat so I'm ready to take his position tbh
Great theory!
In BOTW you can get 30 hearts and there is a statue you can sell them at for 100 rupees so 100 times 30 = 3000 and there you go he didn’t have to do all of that research

That one video you did a year ago about the eighth heroine was wrong because if the model was flipped then it was right handed, not left-handed like limk
Straight up thought you were gonna calculate the cost of a hylian soul by figuring out the value of all the treasure in his room, measuring it with pixel measurements, looking up values of the things in the room.
Sounds like the job of MatPat. Funnily enough, he explains inflation and deflation better in one of his Genshin Impact theories, specifically the one about how the Archeon Jhonli doomed the world. Trust me, he does a better job. I'm gonna miss him..

One thing to note about inflation on Poe souls in inequality of information and access. Any schmo with a bow can kill a poe in OOT and MM, but in TP, you need to have wolf link, something that makes it far more valuable, since nobody else in hyrule has been shown to be able to hunt TP Poe’s

Diamond is the most common gemstone we theorize can actually exist beyond quartz, especially in collapsed stars since its pressurized carbon essentially.
You also had to count in the fact that Link was the only supplier of Poe's souls as nobody else can hurt/see poes
i would have said that majoras mask doesnt count because it takes place in termina which is an alternate world. so in termina values of items could be a lot different. and since ocarina of time and twilight princess are both set in hyrule they would be more likely to have more similar prices
Exactly, I'd love another video on the price of a Terminian soul..
I wonder if rupees flickering and vanishing if left alone on the ground is a deflationary mechanism built into the currency of Hyrule for periods when the Hero slaughters monsters and grass en-mass, flooding the Hyrule market with new rupees and rapidly warping the economy.
One fact to think of is, except for wolf link that no one can kill a TP Poe, so if wasn't for link he would never been able to came back to normal.
With that new trailer for botw 2 I think there might be something to theorize about... that gerudo could be the eighth instead of ganondorf, after all, ganondorf doesn’t typically have hair that long
Who the heck is the eighth
The eighth heroine
That makes sense
If you want my personal opinion, I don't think we should use Majora's Mask for the final result.
As it is cool to know, the land Termina is like a separate world. Different than Hyrule with its own economy.
Do a video about the next Breath of the wild that was announced at E3 please!
But considering the inflation between the rarity of Poe souls (in Poe forms) and human souls (not in Poe forms), we can see that a human can be found way easier than a poe, so a human soul is... cheap, if people are able to sell them! However, Poe souls are like a physical appearance of a part of human soul, so since you can't sell a human soul directly without a curse, it would be way more expensive! Also, hire a magician to curse the person!
Yeah, the thought also crossed my mind! While there are millions of human souls on Earth, they would be considered extremely valuable since it's basically impossible to sell them [I mean, who knows ;) ] but given how Hyrule is a different world, the idea of selling your soul seems normal enough to make it lose it's value. Of course, the topic is very subjective.
@@NintendoBlackCrisis I'm very confused as to why you included MM prices considering that game takes place in another land/dimention. Thus based on those numbers would be the price if a Terminian soul. TFH also takes place in another land only OOT actually takes place in Hyrule.
Thanks
A soul is worth as much as you're willing to sell it for.
I was in the library the other day, in the Restricted Section, and I read something rather odd about a bit of rare magic. It's called, as I understand it... Horcruxes.
What does this have to do with this?
Mr.Barnacle man nothing really just reminded me cause his soul is split between all the poes
@@vexxhearts ahh ok
The main question I had about Jiovani and his wealth, is that he was given gold coins, which is what he's mainly sitting on, that are emblazoned with the Hyrulian symbol, plus they look fairly new. If rupees are the main currency, why was he given gold coins, the likes of which are only seen in this room?
I feel there is something you overlooked though. There are only 60 poes in twilight princess. In OoT poes we're everywhere and in Majoras Mask they are only found in one place. As such poes are worth even more than either of those games because there is an extremely finite amount. As such they are compatible to the inflationon of coal or oil.
So using GameTheory’s calculations on what 1 green rupee is worth, a Hylian soul is worth somewhere between $8,095,469,250 and $161,909,385,000
Can't wait to see if he (when he) discusses BotW 2!!
There is also the additional point that, as time passes, as gold is a valuable and useful material, due to its nonreactive properties, even having large quantities of it doesn't lower its value by much, as show in the past by gold standard currencies, the value of gold is pretty constant, meaning that it backs up other currencies such as rupees, quite nicely.
lol looks like you'll be getting more material soon xP
Well, maybe Poe's souls are more expensive then one might think considering they can only be obtained when someone can interact with the Twili (in Twilight Princess).
You're using the word inflation wrongly. You're talking about value or offer vs demand. Inflation is when the countries print more money by making a debt for the future. Adding more money into the market devalues money buying power.
Not exactly inflation isn't just countries and shit, its all goods and trades
@@lukewatson4381 the value of anything is about how much there is of that thing vs how much people want it (basic economics, offer vs demand). Inflation is How much money the countries print making a future debt flooding the market with more money devalueing its buying power (Ludwig von Mises). NBC is using the wrong terms.
@@JCDetona it is money but its not based on the countrys money its the value and how hard it is to find the good it trade he is using the right term
I want more twilight princess theories :(
Came down to comment on how diamonds aren’t rare and only expensive because of the De Beers monopoly and I’m pleased others have beat me to it.
I feel like you should have used the OoT statistic because Majora’s Mask is set in Termina and the economics of the two worlds aren’t necessarily the same, and Twilight Princess is set in Hyrule
It IS really weird how there are gold coins with the Hyrule crest on them....what are they doing there...nobody uses them as a currency..right?
You know, that little channel called Film Theory
Also maybe some souls have different values, like a criminal or a “lesser” person compared to someone who is more pure
Great video, I thought you were going to talk about if/why a hylian soul can actually be translated to rupees, and if rupees contain life power or stored wotk/energy. Supported by examples like the restoration of great fairies, the actual properties of rupees, and their connection to the goddesses
Can you do a theory about the robots in the dessert in skyward sword, they have always been interesting to me as if they served humans that must mean they had an advanced civilisation that maybe even surpasses ours as we don't have robots as advanced. If this is the case why de we never see technology on the same level in the series?
I have a video connecting their technology to that of the Sheikah's from BotW :)
Weren't there four big poes in Arbiters Grounds?
I think it's important to note that diamonds aren't rare, the supply is just controlled by a small number of companies.
I really love this video but i just want to point out that those poe souls may be common but they are still really hard to obtain for normal human people because they are guarded by those flying ghosts. Witch means that they still have a lot of value because they are hard to get your hands on
1:30 but this poeses a question 🗿
Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask use the same Link, but Majoras Mask is just a few later. This means that there was a lot of inflation. Meaning you want to use Majoras Mask.
Isn't Jovani a ghost in Ocarina of Time? Where you learn the Sun Song the 2 big grave stones next to the hole you go in to learn the song?
Well, in the point in time. The value would logically fluctuate depend on the Hylian population, and of course how much demand there is.
You should definitely watch FMA
