I am also starting to get meshtastic going in my area (middle TN). I think it has some real potential for community resilience/readiness since most people aren't hams (my family included). Thanks for sharing your updates. 73 - AA4K
Are you sure that you'll see other public nodes on the secondary channel? The gps datas and telemetry doesn't only work on the primary channel? Does the map will show all public nodes + all the nodes on the primary channel? Thanks. We have a mesh of +15 nodes here with a few hams in east Belgium.
Telemetry only goes out on the primary channel, but if you have the default channel as your secondary, you will see any other nodes in the node list, but not on the map.
I got this one, which was recommended by other meshtastic users, it is for the 915MHz range. github.com/RicInNewMexico/Meshtastic-Antenna-Reports/blob/main/PDFs/ANT-916-CW-HW-SMA.pdf
How do you test with outdoor node as base station & mobile node being up to 2 mikes away? Do you put base station node into REPEATER mode & it relays message back to you for testing?
I would just send a position report or direct message and see if I got the confirmation. I was testing specific locations I mapped out before, so I would just stop for a minute. At home I had the node connected to a laptop with a screen recorder running. If you have a T-beam or other ESP32 device it can do an automated range test. I looking to get one of those.
Fine business. I made 18 contacts and I contacted AB1A three times whhile Mike was out there mobiling. I had one CW with W3WH. My last contact was K3SEM, who was NCS this evening. @@TangoOscarMikeN3WS
If you add solar to the rak buy the rak “green power module” it’s a buck boost converter that takes solar panel voltage below 5v & boost it to 5v much more reliable

This form of comms is encrypted, which makes it even better still. Also, you don't need a lot of power as these units operate on only about 100mW.

Hey! What's the new antenna make/model? Have you used the solar port on the RAK? Made a similar setup with the 4x4 junction box. It's perfect for it.

Did you work the WASH Simplex Contest? I did but did not hear many calls from Washington County.
I did. Made 12 contacts. I didn't get a better antenna up due to the wind. Mike AB1A was killing it on his mobile run.
