Whilst I agree with Mac that 4.88 diff gears and massive torque are a big risk for destroying diff gears , I personally believe that it actually the nitro diff gears that are the problem. I’ve had 2x sets of nitro 4.56 gears fail within 30k km for no particular reason in a new fj cruiser that is on 35’s and stock power levels (I’m pretty soft on the equipment too). I’ve also heard other stories of people in the Aussie fj community killing multiple sets of nitro gears. After changing to a different brand of diff gear in 4.56, I’ve had no issues for over 60k km. I can only put this down to the brand of equipment as the diff builder was ruled out. Just my personal experience. I've always wanted a 79 series or a Troopy and is very close to ordering, but why do they have breaking components all the time? I thought they were far more solid than other 4x4s. Are they worth the price? Let me know honest review if you own one. Cheers
