THANK YOU! Finally the test I needed. I was struggling deciding between the mini and gen3, really wanted the mini for the size, but in all tests people were using the mini Wifi router which is only wifi 5. On the cable the Mini does so much better, and I can connect to a Gl iNet mobile router with wifi 6. Thank you!
A good way to explain how Starlink works is comparing it to cell phones. With cell service the towers are fixed and the phones move while the Star link system the dish is stationary and the towers (satellites) move.
Nice review. We love our Mini. We use it for our home internet and we take it with us on our RV trips. Just got back from a trip up thru Maine. On travel days we laid the mini on the dash flat plugged into the cig plug and it worked great shooting up thru the front windshield.
I just ordered the mini, I’m looking to do the same as you but I was wondering if you had problems receiving a connection from your mini to inside of the house? Thanks.
We use the Starlink Mini on our Travato class B. It's mounted to the roof, with power and Ethernet down into the Peplink router. We combine the roam 50GB plan with a 100GB T-Mobile SIM and a business Verizon SIM.
Chris, I just bought the Generation #3 Standard at the last cheap price using the monthly roam, and it is incredible! I wish the pipe adapter was included in the standard. It is a power hog, forcing me to upgrade my RV's AGM batteries to lithium, utilizing the 500-watt solar panels I have on the RV roof. I'm looking forward to setting up the pole to attach to my RV's rear ladder. I have reduced the monthly cost of my two Verizon Wireless Mifi devices.
Great reviews. However, I’m still not sure about the Mini and how it will work with our caravan (travel trailer in the US?). Being an aluminium clad box, basically how strong is the wifi signal coming from the mini and how would it perform for us? You mentioned a separate router that you can connect to the Mini via an Ethernet cable. That might be what we may need to do. Can you or anyone here suggest one for us? Thanks.

Do a search on UA-cam Star link Mini Australia. There are several videos of people in Australia using the mini anywhere from their home to the outback.
I have a 5th wheel 50 amp RV and we work on construction projects in locations that have poor cell service. Power is not an issue. We do not do remote off grid RVing. So my question is whether I why I would want to get the Mini vs Standard. I need wifi for connectivity via zoom meetings, streaming, and email. Is the pause function effective to both?
Pause is a feature of the data plan you select, not the dish. The differences between the dishes are discussed in this video, and documented in our guide: www.rvmobileinternet.com/starlink . If you're a member, please do feel free to post any questions you have in our forums so our team can assist.
Unfortunately there is no reliable cell signal in the canyon we camp host in CO. I hesitate to consider a Pepwave router because we have great low cost cable internet in the winter where we recover from the intense summer activities. What would a 12 volt router cost, we don't need sim capability as there is barely enough signal to text from there (randomly a text goes through, no pictures though, plus the hot springs below overloads that Verizon tower, calls & texts are unreliable up at the campground where the 1/2 bar of signal is a reflected signal, not line of sight)? We have 1,640 watts of solar from combined roof & ground panels to capture as much sun as possible. That RV site was chosen because there are the fewest trees around, but both north & south views are of a steep canyon walls with an old train line about 1/4 the way up. One of our Hosts has a Gen3 he uses, but runs his generator to recharge his Jackery 2000 ... We want less generator time, obviously. David & Sheila

Lot of great info, thanks. I agree with using external router with mini would improve wifi, but then you need to power the external router which means more power consumption, right?
Seems to me you would want both. I started with the Standard as it was cheaper, and RVing, I thought I would get a better signal in limited over cover areas. That being said, when the Mini’s come down in price, I plan on getting it also. You can switch between the Standard and the Mini with one plan, right? Thanks for a great vid.
@@MobileInternetResourceCenter Well that stinks : ( So you can’t just switch back and forth, using the Standard one trip, and the Mini on the next without having 2 separate plans? Another quick question on plans? I heard a Tuber state that you could watch approx. 63 hours of UA-cam with the 50 Gig base plan. Do you think that sounds about right? Thanks for being so prompt with your answers. Liked and Subscribed : )
All depends on what video definition you're viewing at. 63 hrs would likely be at SD (480p). Here's our guide to streaming video: www.rvmobileinternet.com/tv
@@markashlock9017 I have a Gen 2 and a Mini. Since the Gen 2 has no value now, I put it on the 50GB plan and paused it. The Mini is also on 50GB plan with $1 per GB overage. Math shows if you use less than 160 GB per month or if you do occasionally its a better deal then the unlimited roaming $165 plan. They are two sub accounts with one master account, you can unpause or activate as needed.
I have a question. When you order the starlink mini and you pick the 50G plan, does that mean you can't change it to a $160 plan? Or is it a different mini? Like if you are going camping, can you just pay the $160 and be done for your trip? You would be surprised how nobody covers this part. Thanks
Is there a recommended solar power package that will keep my starlink gen 3 running always? If anybody can suggest something that would be amazing that I can run it completely only on solar power and backup battery
Yes you can Mesh a Starlink Mini Wi-Fi with the Gen 3 router. Starlink has the instructions for this in their FAQ under "How do I set up Starlink Mesh?"

As mentioned in the Q&A section of the video - the Peplink B One series is an interesting one to look at. www.rvmobileinternet.com/gear/peplink-b-one/

An additional router would be a little bit of extra power, but usually they draw very little.
Good vid

Solar set ups it outside the scope of what we cover at MIRC.
Can the mini be used with a gen 3 router?
Can wifi signal be boosted on mini by using Starlink's gen 3 mesh? If so, can gen 3 mesh bridge to mini wirelessly?
No, gen3 is wifi 6 and mini is wifi 5 so they are not compatible.
