  • Agatha Christie killed hundreds of characters in her books: some by drowning, some by stabbing, and one with a crowbar. But her preferred murder weapon was chemical, rather than physical. She wrote 85 books, 66 of them detective novels, of which 41 included poisons. More than 80 victims are poisoned in the entirety of Christie’s works.
Let’s find out more about some of the poisons used by the Queen of Crime Novels.

Another absolutely fascinating instalment, with loads of excellent detail. Well done. Christie's pharmacological knowledge was obviously profound.
And there's one more drug that Christie invented, admittedly intended only for benevolent use: Benvo, from Passenger to Frankfurt.

What an informative video! Thanks for breaking down all of her uses of poison. The poisoning that I most vividly remember is from a Miss Marple story. The victim made a phone call saying she needed pilocarpin to treat the poison she was administered. Unfortunately, the lady on the other end, didn't understand and heard it as "pile of carp"

Thank you. Wow, so many poisons out there but, in saying that, she must have had great intelligence to include them in books. In such simple , everyday things. Tea, cocoa, s cocktail etc. so clever. Far less messy than knives and guns, bit more difficult to detect. Especially back then. Thanks once again 🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

Thank you, this was a fantastic episode. Personally, I find taxine one of the most interesting ones. Yew trees are reasonably common. In England, visit the home of Agatha Christie, Torquay and the Agatha Christie Potent Plants Garden at Torre Abbey

It was from Agatha Christie that I learned that yew is deadly, just as it was from Ellis Peters that I learned that monkshood is deadly.

This is interesting, but the robotic voice is a bit unsettling.
