I am so invested in this couples life right now. Once we can book and stay at their place I will be doing so, looks so gorgeous there.
They’re amazing and work so hard. I would love a cream vegega bed to match the ones I’ve got at home 🤞🏻 Thank you for being so generous @camp_out_west
Can I hunt and kill meat animals
So nice to hear! Cannot wait until we are ready to welcome you all 🎉
i’m so jealous, i’m in Australia too far to stay for me :(
Same here and would be amazing if it was dog friendly in the end ❤
Presence of an owl is a great sign! It demonstrates the great work you are doing and shows the improvements to the ecosystem you have made from tidying up all the mess.
@@richardrowlands9113 clueless 🤦♂️
they're also a very good omen 🤩
We are so excited to have one on our land! Can't wait to make an owl box!
We live ruraly in Scotland and it took several years to work out the weirdest shrieking noise that kept frequently happening ..... finally after guessing what animal it could be we found out ! It was winter time and next to our house is a massive oak tree the shrieking noise could quite clearly be heard , armed with a torch and a good beam we spotted it , a baby owl calling out for its mother . Keep up the hard work guys your doing great !
We thought it was foxes at first! So exciting isn't it 😍
To keep the slugs out, run some copper tape around the raised beds, it will need to be min 3” wide to really work.
The vegetable garden looks amazing, as a landscaper id like to offer my advice on the retaining wall to ensure you guys don’t end up having to replace the sleepers, you should place waterproof membrane underneath the bottom sleeper, staple them to them because they’ll slip away, also before doing that paint them with wood preserver water proof, that way the water won’t climb up the sleepers, because if you don’t they’ll need replacing within a year or two from wood rot, and oak isn’t cheap 😂 also, I used to have my own chicken farm free range, and id let them out in the vegetable garden to eat all the slugs, they made wonderful eggs because of that. I’ve just moved house and would love a new raised bed, the colour you’ve gone for is perfect, that’s what id pick ❤ good luck with all the new developments and going forward 🎉
Hi, thanks for the advise, what type of preserver would you recommend? any brands in particular?i thought about putting dpc plastic under the bottom timber but thought it would stop the water draining out of it and rot it faster.
@@joncampoutwest ground damp is going to be absorbed into the bottom sleeper a lot more than rain from above, the damp rises becasue the timber soaks it up naturally as it would when it was a standing tree once, so wouldnt worry about it rotting faster, as long as theres a varnish there between the plastic and the wood it creates a double buffer, and brand of wood preserver i'd recommend, ideally a think thick course wood preserver, in the old days they used tar but thats not so eco friendly, im sure a diy store will have an eco friendly alternative wood preserver these days 😊
Totally get what your saying here and yes it’s best to try and preserve your timbers for as long as possible. Those oak sleepers however wouldn’t rot in a year or two, more like 20 👍
Those bean teepees are 'Scarlet Runner Beans'. They call them 'seven year beans' because they come back for 7 years, before the roots die, in the right climatic conditions. Bees and nectar eating birds love them.
we were just starting to miss them and here they are, giving us a raised bed garden. And a pretty pretty one, too! What a treat! Thank you so much!
Hope you enjoyed 😍
Remember it's the journey not the destination. You're making memories. You are making memories that will last you a lifetime.
I was just thinking about this channel! I've had a tough week, pretty low mood and thought to myself, "I wonder if camp out west will be doing a video soon?" I really enjoy seeing the difference you've made to the land, the projects you've completed! Just relaxes me and I really enjoy it so perfect timing! Can't wait to see the area is fully finished x best of luck x
I hope your next week is better! *random hugs*
Hey Kirsty, do you watch Simple Living Alaska? Their videos always cheer me up. Hang on in there love. 👍
So sorry to hear you've had a tough week ❤ hope the grey clouds start to lift soon for you. Whenever we're having a rough week we go through all our puppy videos and photos of Maggie to cheer us up 🥺🥺🥰🥰 thanks so much for your support and love for our channel, so grateful for you and your support. Hoping you're feeling a little better xxx
Any color!!!! It would be wonderful to have a raised bed! Love watching you repurpose and make your land totally yours! AMAZING!
If you make up a salt solution and spray it on the outside of all your raised beds it stops the slugs/snails climbing up the planters. Also put bird netting over the plants as birds/white (cabbage butterfly) will also have a feast as well. Good luck, the veggie garden looks great!
I know chickens would eat the slugs and snails but would they eat the veg also?
Another great idea for raised beds are IBC totes cut in half. The beauty of the base being a pallet is the IBC can be moved by a tractor with pallet forks.
The top can be inverted and screws to another pallet making two raised beds per IBC tote.
I am loving what you guys have. Keep it at manageable little jobs and you will soon be moving in.
Very excited to start our shower block build! We are ordering all our materials this week 🥳
Would love a slate gray 1. Great to see 2 young people going self sufficient.
Hi, it's 2.42 am here in Melbourne Australia (Monday) and I've spent hours binge watching your videos. I'm so impressed by what you have achieved and your hard work and stamina. I recognised your dog as an English Pointer (cross) as my friend also had one until recently (sadly Charlie went over the rainbow bridge). I look forward to what you 've got planned for your next video. Cheers from Carol.
I hope we didn't keep you up too late 😅 but so pleased you enjoyed watching!! Oh yes Maggie is a English pointer...She is our dream girl ❤ we love her so much! Sorry to hear about Charlie xxx
Another Aussie here. I have just found you today and had a bit of a binge from 7.30pm to 11.30. Such hard work yet amazing results. Just loving your channel. ❤ 😊 🇦🇺
They look great. Would have the green ones. What a back saver and space for the wheelbarrow, game changer.
What a fabulous start on your veggie-growing journey. It looks so fab. Well done.
Thanks so much Lottie xxx
Good on you for keeping the trees. No need to get rid of a tree purely for aesthetic reasons. (And they'll look fabulous at Christmas with lights in ;) )
If you have problems with slugs, set some beer traps - small containers filled with cheap bitter beer (Lidl's own brand works really well). It has to be bitter and the containers need to be high enough that the slugs can't "lean in" to drink it. The slugs climb up and fall in, leaving a very tasty meal for frogs, hedgehogs etc.
Your efforts are fantastic. Seriously impressed as a fellow Welshie. I am over 60 and have been gardening since I was a child and think raised beds are the way to go as the growing environment is more controllable. The Vegega beds remind me of the square corrugated beds we used to make and paint from the coal pit waste materials. I think that I would have to have the green coloured Vegega beds to remind me of my childhood. Although we used to paint ours with whatever colour paint we had left over. All the very best.
They are beautiful aren't they! We love the look / how practical and long lasting they are! Also excited they will match our future tiny home!
best cure for slugs and safe for dogs is beer. They will go for the beer instead of going for your baby plants! Put them in old takeaway containers cut holes in the lids and then put about two fingers of beer in the dish!
Why not grow some lettuce leaves in the unused space, buy a mixed leaf packet of seeds and you will have lettuce to use within 3 weeks. Peas and beetroot can also be planted now. I've also planted potatoes this week that were seeding. As for the raised bed any colour. I just recycled my daughter's old cabin bed into a raised bed with carrots peas board beans and french beans in. Love what you have achieved so far xx
Thanks for the tip - we added some to our beds yesterday :) will let you know how we get on! xx
The white ones look lovely. Reminiscent of those beautiful enamel plates and mugs from my youth. Nice work on your vegetable garden.
The raised beds look brilliant, your hard work of tidying the space you started with shows the dedication you both have put in. Well done have a great week, Tracy 😊
Thanks so much Tracy! We can't believe this is our garden!! 😍
I'd like a white raised garden bed. Love to see people living off the land 😊
The white ones look really good on your gravel, which will hopefully help to keep the slugs and snail down, I'm just waiting for the chickens to arrive now😉
YOU SHOULD BE SO PROUD OF YOURSELVES HARD WORK BUT NOTHING BEATS YOU TWO ❤❤❤❤
Regarding vegetable patch, I heard eggshells around base deters slugs! Just make sure membrane removed and shell dry x
Yes I have heard that also
In my garden rather than egg shells is the beer that worked best but expensive lol coffee is good too but in my experience they don't care much for egg shells
Crushed egg shells mixed in the soil is good for roses, my grandmother taught me. I don't know if they keep slugs away though. Living in Sweden it's inspiring to hear how developed the ecological and recycled alternatives you have in Wales. Like the compost servic, for instance. Maybe it's working economically with your denser population. Good luck with your fantastic project!
Those raised beds look brilliant! Try some old copper pipe round the top edge of your pots/planters/raised beds to stop the slugs. Copper tape to stick round the top is also supposed to be good too!
So nice to see you again. Very wise to start small with your garden and gain some experience. You can increase the number of raised bedsi in the future as you learn what grows well and what doesn't.
Thanks John, we are already looking at adding in more beds! Think we are going to make some out of the old decking boards :)
Another fab video. I would put some sort of netting on top of the beds, try to stop rabbits and other herbivores getting to the plants. Crushed eggshells sprinkled in between the plants will help with the slugs, fine sand too, also strong smelling plants like mint, garlic and fennel as they don't like strong odours. A mini pool of beer works too 😃
You three are doing so well. No half measures, the garden looks top notch. You must be so pleased with the progress. Thank you for taking us along with the enjoyable volgs. Stay safe, and look forward to the next episode.
Thanks so much Jeff :) we are so happy with how it turned out!!!
The roots from the pine trees WILL find their way into your garden.....for sure.
We love our raised beds too! Your garden is looking beautiful, can’t wait to see all that you grow and produce 💛 good luck against the slugs 🐌
We have loved seeing your garden bloom! Such inspiration! So excited for our first harvest!!!
A lovely cup of tea seat under those 2 trees woul be handy 👌 and beer baits are the best to drown slugs …. Works every time you will be amazed at how many you find in the saucers 😮.. love the garden 😊
As usual a fantastic video! Such hard workers your energy and attitudes are quite inspiring! ❤
Thank you Andrea ❤❤❤
Also, try adding some bands of ultra cheap copper tape around the outside of your raised beds to prevent slug and snail attacks.
You guys work so hard, love watching.
So pleased you are enjoying watching :)
I love the Reseda Green.
Love the commitment and work ethic guys 👍👍🌷Brilliant plans and execution of them stay positive and keep up the fabulous work 👍🙏🙏👍👍👍🌷🏴🏕️
Put some copper tape around your beds and tubs. That will prevent the slugs from climbing up them and into your plants.
Win your own Vegega raised bed! Just let us know what colour you would like if you won in the comments below 😄 BEWARE: we do NOT use telegram. Anyone that comments to you on UA-cam saying you've won isn't us, beware of scammers pretending to be us. We will announce the winner in our video at the end of August 😊
I love watching your videos, you're both so resourceful and I love that you recycle as much as you can. The raised beds look great, I'd love to win a moss green one if I was lucky enough. Keep up the good work and videos.
Green raised bed pls for me 😀
Raised bed would be nice, but shipping to Tennessee might be too expensive 🙂👍
Cream coloured bed would be lovely.
Love the moss green. Keep the videos coming.
'Novices' no longer! What a great outcome and it's just the start. This is definitely a part of your adventure that will keep giving. Lovely video, thank you for sharing this!
Love the white Vegega! Save your egg shells, wash them and crush them up, the slugs don’t like them 🐌 🚫
The chard colours will look like a rainbow before you know it. I’d love the green raised bed. Good luck with the slugs ☺️
I think a nice bench at the back of the raised beds by the two trees would be nice. ;)
I grow my vegetables in raised beds, along with flowers that also love to be in there. The compost is all from a compost heap created before we moved in and is topped each year with grass clippings and shedding. Really love the cream coloured raised beds.
I am very impressed with your raised beds and the best thing for snails and slugs apart from a hedgehog is a tennis racket ( it's quite amazing how far away they will travel through the air if given a good hard thump with a tennis racket. )😂
Fantastic video, the raised garden looks fab - I’d love a vegega in pale green. Looking forward to your next drop
I recommend getting a good organic gardening book - it will help you with crop rotation for the beds, also pest control. If you have deep beds you can actually plant closer together for a lot of veggies! Geoff Hamilton’s books are great. There are also fruits that be container grown - I’ve got rhubarb, gooseberries and blueberries on the go. Also look at companion planting - can also help keep pests at bay! Good luck with your veggies - nothing better than home grown!
Loving this transformation.
And the raised beds should be 'Oyster white'. Thank you.
Around the base of the pine trees, seating may be an idea. Just something simple with odd bits of wood!!!! Liking the raised beds 👍
If we’re not too late, a green one would be great. I spent a lot of hours cutting old corrugated iron sheets into strips to make raised beds. Let’s just say they look a bit rustic but functional. Yours look like the Rolls Royce of raised beds!
I'd love a green raised bed if I won -- Just a thought - put a layer of the woodchips on top of the raised beds too. That way it provides a barrier against blown seeds and provides nutrition every time the rain washes through it. :)
If you get slug pellets and put around your plants the slugs will lay off. Also if you wash egg shells dry them and crush them and spread around your plants slugs and snails do not like egg shells as they are sharp. Another tip is a bit of beer in a glass jar lying it on its side the slugs love beer and they will drown. Quiet a few options. I was beginning to wonder how things were going and here you surprise us with this beautiful vegetable garden. Well done. Have a lovely day.
Top tip. A length of 1” X .25” lath the length of the beds and two the width of the bed, marked in inches is a great way to both measure spacing and as a straight line.
Raised bed garden is magnificent. ✅✅✅✅✅
I would love those raised beds in white too, so I can spot slugs on them easily😊.
Happy Birthday Emily!!! xxx
When the runner beans reach the top of the cane, snip off the growing shoot to staunch top growth and to force new growth from lower on the plant
I look forward to these videos. Reseda Green would look great in my garden 🤞
that tool from your grandad is a cultivator ,you are doing a great job love every episode .
That old metal that you found makes great raised garden beds. You guys are finding great things
If you are growing organically, you’ll need to go out every night about 10pm with a torch and pick off all the slugs. No point releasing the slugs, they’ll come back. You have to destroy them. This is the only way to ensure a good crop of vegetables. It’s a horrible job, but it’s the only way to stop them munching your veggies. You could try beer traps too, but you’ll still need to check the underside of leaves and under the rims of planters. I hope you have lots of success with your growing x
You're hard work is paying off. I would love a green raised bed.
Astrantia gives off a smell slugs hate. Planting rosemary, wormwood, rue, fennel, and anise will repel slugs as well.Fix copper tape around the sides of the raised beds. This works great when it's up again fence,or a garden wall. Eggshells crushed, coffee grounds with caffeine works, mix equal parts of water and vinegar in a spray bottle and spray them at night when they are most active.,and pre- steeped tea bags work great. Just sprinkle the tea leaves into the soil.❤
Looks fantastic. You looked so funny moving the beds around. Like you were setting up to play Battleship. Lol.
Just amazing, all that hard work really pays off. Love how you set up the raised beds, would love a white one. Your fur baby is just tooo cute.
The great thing about tall raised beds is that you get less weeds. Because of the air in the chips and dirt, the first year you have to almost overfill them to offset the sinkage.
Good luck with your first garden.
I like the oyster white color VegeGa has on their site.
Congratulation on 100 Subs - and keeping the Pines Awesome - be aware however that they are now rather exposed and may be subject to something called wind throw. Hope these are on the leeward side of the woodland. The wildlife garden potential is amazing
Me and my 2 year old daughter love watching your videos. She especially likes the appearance of your pup haha. The area you’ve created looks sensational. Look forward to the next one.
Watching from Australia 🇦🇺
I was waiting for the beans it wouldn't be a welsh garden without them!!
I’ve noticed that not only the industrious couple we watch here but on many similar channels the people position their wheelbarrow on the least convenient side when shoveling stuff into the barrow.
I find it easier as a natural right handed to put the barrow to my left so that after loading the shovel I aim the shovel with a “forehand” movement. This lets me work quicker and also avoids lots of twisting outwards.
Perhaps worth trying next time you have to shovel & load.
I think the oyster white you have there look very sharp and clean. Ive seen these before but only available in the USA so great to see a supplier in the UK too.
Oyster white would look great. Loving the transformation, your hard work and effort is paying off 👍😀
Put some copper tape around your beds and pots and it will stop the slugs getting into them.
Try to get a round mouth shovel it would make life so much easier, shovelling gravel, digging, etc etc you're welcome. Its coming together 👍
Well done its beautiful 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
if you want to stop the slugs climbingup into your raised beds and pots, put a ring of bare copper wire or tape round them about half way up on the outside, the slugs will not cross the copper, if you can find copper tape, it works even better
Slate Grey would go so well with our existing beds…that need a Vegega to make it perfect 😍
LUV the beds with a modern retro look & in white, class!
Would love the moss green. You’ve created a beautiful and productive veggie garden.
Putting plastic bags on the bottom of timber like a sock before you put the cement to it add extra years to the timber base
Looks amazing and great progress 👍
I think the slate grey raised bed would look perfect in my garden. Keep doing you. Your channel is my absolute favorite ❤❤❤
for your slug and other pest issues, you should get a couple of runner ducks they will soon sort the issue out. also what ever you do dont use egg shell. oyster grit or slug pellets actually on your raised beds as this will actually attracted them to the plants. egg shell and oyster are needed by slugs and snails and they will travel to find the calcium source and then have a snack on your plants as pudding lol. best way i have found is either beer traps but they can get a little gross or you can plant a small bed away from your veg as a sacrifice plot. so things like hostas and marigolds random scatter or seeds of peas or any beans u can buy cheap. the pests will eat there rather than the raised beds and u can pop upside down plants pots around the sacrifice plants then collect any slugs or snails for dispatch during the day
You mentioned before you were really looking forward to it, glad you managed to do it this year. Can’t imagine the back pain, the transformation is well worth it. I’d love the Oyster White like you have, super classy ✨
Enjoy a coffee for you both and of course Maggie a treat.❤
I love your new garden it come up so good with the wooden border around the outside, makes a big difference. I’d love a cream raised bed they would match my house, keep up all your hard work. Can’t wait to see you start to create accommodation on the land
The UA-cam algorithm found me and I'm so glad it did. I've binge watched all your videos over the last couple of days and I'm in awe of your determination and what you've achieved so far. I feel so invested in your journey and look forward to seeing how Camp Out West progresses!
I live in a flat with a communal garden. Having raised beds would be a great addition. I'm so indecisive - all the colours look pretty - but I think slate grey would be the colour I'd pick.
If you put wood chips or saw dust even eggshells on top of the dirt in your pots or garden it will stop the slugs, they can't slither across them. Good luck with your garden.
I look forward to every video you post! The raised bed area looks amazing! Love the Vegega raised beds, especially the Reseda Green colour. One of those would look amazing in our garden :) 🥕🌺 keep up the good work!!
copper tape around the rims/edge of your planters pots will help prevent slugs
What you guys need on a site like you have is a second hand excavator, it doesn’t need to be pretty or all singing and dancing, would make your lives so much easier. You only have to mess your back up and the hole project comes to a painful, grinding halt.
Hi Ian, they are so much money even secondhand around us i find and then i worry if i buy used it'll be a money pit to keep it working. Any particular models you can recommend to keep an eye out for
You could put arches from one pot to another so they grow over the arch, cucumbers good aswell to do same x
Those white raised beds look just the job, I think the dark colours might absorb to much heat. Great work you two.
White raised bed would be great. Looks brilliant guys. Keep up the good work.
With out awful weather you may need to look for some polytunnels.
Im in Gloucestershire and my friends beans all got blown flat so your beautiful trees might help support them too x
We would love an Oyster White raised bed like yours. They are looking great, good job 👏
Slate grey would match my shed paint 😍 lovely to see this, I love seeing people garden, everyone should give it a go
The garden looks great and planned for future growth. A slate grey raised bed would fit in my garden very well!
I’d love it in Moss green. Your raised veg garden looks amazing after all your hard work.
