Why Baptizing Your Baby Is the Most Important Thing You Can Do

  • Why does the Catholic Church baptize babies rather than wait until they are older and capable of choosing this sacrament for themselves?
Salvation requires faith, and it can be challenging to understand how an infant accepts the truths of the Catholic Faith at the moment of Baptism.
Today Fr. Mike uses an example from Mark’s Gospel to help us understand how the profession of faith by our parents at the moment of our Baptism prepares us to receive the gift of salvation later in our lives.

My daughter was supposed to be baptized on 12/28/19 just before she turned 2 months old. On 12/27/19, however, she was ambulanced to our state’s major children’s hospital for seizures. I remember calling the priest crying, letting him know we wouldn’t be able to have the baptism the next day. I was heartbroken. After my daughter’s health continued to decline and it seemed like we were going backwards instead of forwards in terms of figuring everything out medically, I decided on 1/5/20 we would have her baptized in the hospital on the next day. (On Epiphany!) I was so sad because I had always envisioned a big celebration at the church where we attended and having tons of friends there, my daughter getting to wear a special baptismal gown, etc. and all of those dreams were dashed because of the issue of only allowed to have so many people in the NICU. Even though this was before the pandemic, everyone in the room had to wear masks and medical robes and only a few people could be physically in the room. Even though it wasn’t what I envisioned, her baptism was beautiful and special in its own way. The important thing was she was getting baptized. After her baptism, although she didn’t get better immediately, we started to get answers and things started improving from then. I am happy to say she is happy and healthy now and a beautiful 3-year old little girl. I am so happy with the decision I made to have her baptized in the hospital. Such a special gift.

This is so beautiful it has me in tears. I'm a Convert to Catholicism from Protestant and even in my Protestant days I had this deep feeling that infant Baptism was right and necessary without being able to explain why🤔 I used to think to myself if I ever have a baby I will Baptize them.myself at home without saying anything to my Pastor Because I just somehow know it's the right thing to do.
So I ended up becoming a Catholic and have no kids still but now I know that hunch I had in my Protestant days was Truth whispering in my heart. ❤️
GOD bless you and your beautiful baby and may GOD grant that every baby may receive Baptism and not be denied this incomparable spiritual gift of Life 🙏🙏🙏✝️✝️✝️💖💖💖

You can even baptize your child yourself in an emergency. Form and matter are necessary. Form is/are the words, ”I baptize you in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
Water is the “Matter”. Regular tap water is sufficient in an emergency. Afterwards you can have the child or personal conditionally baptized and be anointed Priest, Prophet and King.
So grateful and happy her child was baptized and doing well.

@@eduardohoover2127 Yes, the priest let me know that over the phone when I spoke with him and he taught me how. Thankfully, we were never in a situation where we believed death was imminent, which is why I didn’t do it myself. But then, when we were in the hospital and there were talks of her needing surgery, I determined we should contact a priest and see about getting her baptized. I was happy to have him there as he had chrism and holy water, which I wouldn’t have access to if I (or another layperson) had to perform the baptism.

John’s baptism was the baptism of repentance (Matthew 3:11), but Jesus was sinless and had no need of repentance. Even John was taken aback at Jesus’ coming to him. John recognized his own sin and was aware that he, a sinful man in need of repentance himself, was unfit to baptize the spotless Lamb of God: “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” (Matthew 3:14). Jesus replied that it should be done because “it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness” (Matthew 3:15).
John was the “voice crying in the wilderness” prophesied by Isaiah, calling people to repentance in preparation for their Messiah (Isaiah 40:3). By baptizing Him, John was declaring to all that here was the One they had been waiting for, the Son of God, the One he had predicted would baptize “with the Holy Spirit and fire” (Matthew 3:11).
John’s words the day after the baptism have a decidedly priestly air: “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).
Jesus’ baptism also showed that He identified with sinners. His baptism symbolized the sinners’ baptism into the righteousness of Christ, dying with Him and rising free from sin and able to walk in the newness of life. His perfect righteousness would fulfill all the requirements of the Law for sinners who could never hope to do so on their own. When John hesitated to baptize the sinless Son of God, Jesus replied that it was proper to “fulfill all righteousness” (Matthew 3:15). By this He alluded to the righteousness that He provides to all who come to Him to exchange their sin for His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21).
In addition, Jesus’ coming to John showed His approval of John’s baptism, bearing witness to it, that it was from heaven and approved by God. This would be important in the future when others would begin to doubt John’s authority, particularly after his arrest by Herod (Matthew 14:3-11).
Perhaps most importantly, the occasion of the public baptism recorded for all future generations the perfect embodiment of the triune God revealed in glory from heaven. The testimony directly from heaven of the Father’s pleasure with the Son and the descending of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus (Matthew 3:16-17) is a picture of the trinitarian nature of God. It also depicts the work of the Father, Son, and Spirit in the salvation of those Jesus came to save. The Father loves the elect from before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4); He sends His Son to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10); and the Spirit convicts of sin (John 16:8) and draws the believer to the Father through the Son. All the glorious truth of the mercy of God through Jesus Christ is on display at His baptism.

You might want to look up John 3:5, 1 Peter 3:21, Acts 2:38 etc because baptism is the instrument established by God to pour out His saving and regenerating grace. It's the means through which we are saved. To take that Ephesians verse and twist the word faith to mean a mere intellectual acknowledgement and asssent is what saves us, is totally wrong and contradicts the rest of scripture, especially thoe verses I mentioned. Faith in Christ means and includes more than just belief, it also includes obedience. You have to accept and follow everything He taught, and one of those things is baptism. If you believe in Christ, it follows that you will be baptised, and it is in that act of baptism that we are saved. That is how our faith saves us, by leading us to approach baptism, which is the gateway to the spiritual life.

Christ says we must be born of water, and Spirit, but many confuse thinking it means Baptised, it doesnt, it means you must be born of a Woman. The dunking in water symbolizes being in the womb. Hi! I just wanted to say that baptism is for those who believe in Christ, not for babies who haven’t had the chance yet. Baptism isn’t what saves us, God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ does. In the word, it’s clear that you are to be baptized after you believe.
“36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
    -Acts 8:36-37 KJV.
The act of physical baptism isn’t what makes the Holy Spirit indwell in us either. In Acts chapter 10, it is demonstrated that the Holy Spirit comes to us when we believe, NOT when we are water baptized.
“Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?” - Acts 10:47 KJV.
We are sealed with the Holy Spirit when we believe.
“In Christ ye also trusted after ye heard the word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation, in Whom also after ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” -Ephesians 1:13 KJV.
I urge you to not be led astray by man made traditions and interpretations, but to instead let God lead you in truth. Don’t just go by others interpretations of scripture and what others say, read for yourself and allow our merciful God to guide you! Have a blessed day! 😊💕

I told them that they really should try to get the baby baptized as soon as they can, since it’s such a dire thing, if you truly believe in the power of it, but she said “tHaT’s NoT wHaT i WaS aSkInG aBoUt!!!!“ (in all fairness, she was asking about party decorations)

My daughter was born May 16, 2019. I wanted to have her baptism at St. Patrick’s in New Orleans. It’s a very beautiful and old church who’s patron Saint is St. Michael the Archangel. When I started attending the baptism classes I learned about the Old Latin Rite baptism. One night I just got it into my head that I wanted my daughter baptized in the Old Latin Rite. The first availability for her baptism just so happened to fall on Sunday, September 29, 2019…St. Michael’s feast day. At the time I just thought it would be a beautiful ceremony to have in St. Patrick’s. Little did I know that decision would hold much more significance than I could have ever imagined. About 1 month after her birth we started experiencing demonic activity in our home, but I had no clue about what was happening until things started photobombing all my pictures 2 years later in March 2021 & the events which followed in the months after were horrific eventually leading to me running (literally) out of the house where we had been living with my child & we never returned. Things were so bad the archdiocese got involved & a team of exorcists began helping us which is when I learned the ugly truth of the situation I had been dealing with. I was in a state of shock & disbelief for a long time & it was hard to come to terms with it all & came what was happening but everything that I was experiencing started to make complete sense the more I was educated on the matter. The next year was spent trying to identify what the entry point(s) & causes were that had invited this evil into our lives. It has not been an easy process because there are many things potentially to blame between our former home’s property history, my family background & (former) foolish lifestyle choices I had made. One of the things I learned was regarding generational curses & spirits in a family lineage. I slowly started to learn that my family of my paternal side had issues to say the least. Generational curses are said to affect a family until the 4th or 5th generation. I learned my great grandmother had owned an ouija board & months after this was in her possession she committed suicide on June 6, 1967. Suicide is a major factor in generational curses. My daughter would would be considered the 5th generation from my great grandmother’s. When the team of exorcists who were working my case asked if me & my child were baptized I said yes & informed them my child had been baptized in the Old Rite. They asked why I chose this over the New Rite & I said I honestly have no reason for it that the thought had just popped into my head & that was that. The team told me that was a saving Grace because if anything had tried to afflict my child & attach to her in those months following her birth before her baptism that the exorcisms performed in the Old Rite ceremony would have taken care of anything “not good” trying to get to my child. I also learned that the Old Rite baptism prevents generational curses & spirits from transferring over to the child (the New Rite only address original sin). I couldn’t believe how blessed I was for this to have played out like it had & to have her baptism scheduled on the feast day of St. Michael in a church where he is honored as their patron Saint…..defend us in battle ..🙏🙏🙏

I have been listening to your CIY after listening to much of your BIY - I am a cradle non-denominational Christian (which is starting to sound more silly the more I am learning) and always had this belief that baptism is something you do when you profess your faith- however, through reading ahead in the catechism, Scott Hahn's book, and hearing you speak (crazy the timing of this video!) baptizing children makes so much sense and it has been heavy on my mind and heart for my 3 children...I just don't know what to do at this point. I believe I read in the catechism - baptism is baptism, in or out of the catholic church... I am still learning so much more about the catholic church and areas of belief that I have engrained in me that are now being called into question- I appreciated how you said in an earlier CIY episode that God revealed Himself over time and I am taking that to heart personally- as He is revealing Himself and His truth to me over time...but as of this moment, my family is not ready to switch churches (we are committed to leadership roles and my husband is not on this same journey of learning about the Catholic church, however he did just start BIY this year!) but I feel a sense of urgency to act in regards to baptism of my children and am not sure the next steps to take. #askfrmike (I am also trying to understand the belief of the Holy Spirit working in children - and if baptism makes a difference in regards to the Holy Spirit helping my children through life)

Hi Ariana. I rarely comment on videos, and I'm hoping someone has reached out to you already about this even if there is no comments. I serve in a Catholic parish helping adults (and sometimes whole families) enter the Church, prepare for the baptism of their kids, and more. Every family situation is unique, so I'm not going to tell you what to do. But, I would encourage you to reach out to your local Catholic parish for someone to talk to (and if you get someone crabby & unhelpful, I'm sorry it happens; try another parish). To answer your question, you are correct that a baptism, with proper form (with water and the words "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit) and intention is efficacious in or out of the Catholic Church. Also, while baptism results in the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit, and all the Sacraments are sure sources of grace, God's grace is also active in other ways. I see this in the life conversion of adults seeking baptism; the Holy Spirit proceeds ahead and leads people. Christ's Peace. Dominic

@@seekingperfectionphilippia7346 Matthew 23:9 is not a ban on calling anyone father, even a spiritual father. Because the apostles themselves call themselves fathers to the Christians. Paul in 1 Corinthians 4:14-16 says "I am writing this not to shame you but to warn you as my dear children. Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me." Paul again refers the Corinthians as his children in 2 Corinthians "As a fair exchange I speak as to my children open wide your hearts also." John calls the Christians his children and calls them Fathers in 1 John 2:13-14 says "I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning." So if this teaching of Jesus is to be taken literally then the apostles themselves are disobeying it. Great explanation - it makes tremendous sense. I've always loved how baptisms performed during Mass allow the entire congregation to renew their own baptismal vows, too. The vows that the parents and godparents make on the infant's behalf should strengthen their own convictions to raise the child in God's graces.

In order to baptize a child the parents had to give months' notice, take classes, etc.
In the first class I took, we were asked what baptism meant to us. No wrong answers. I said, well, the removal of original sin for one thing. Another parent told me he once thought that, also, but then he matured in his faith. No one said anything.
In my second class I had to bring my kid with. I sat in a room with a lot of single moms while a young traditional couple lectured everyone about the Church's teachings on birth control and sex outside marriage. All these women just trying to do the right thing by their children had to be scolded for weeks before they were allowed.
The third class was taught by a nun who asked what we needed to do to "get into heaven" and then told us "do what the Church teaches".
I asked each time why I had to retake classes. Because things might have changed, I was told. Baptism changes?
Our marriage prep classes taught us some artificial contraception was o.k.
Our oldest daughter's communion teacher made the parents come in for a lecture on what she had learned from her Masters from Loyola, then told us she had to "set aside" some of the Church's teachings.
Our middle daughter had a religious ed teacher talk about how the Eucharist wasn't *really* the body and blood (maybe there was a misunderstanding there)
My husband has been trying to get a conditional baptism for over 5 years. The bishop set us up with classes so we could sit with a priest and get "approved". Three priests have approved but he still hasn't been able to get the actual baptism. Paperwork. I keep telling him I'm just going to throw some bottled water on him and do it myself.
At the same time we were meeting with the priest so my daughters could get confirmed. They were, thankfully, but we joined in with a parish and one of the kids that my daughter didn't know -- who had the correct intention, seemingly, and was there for the sacrament, and had taken all the classes he was required to take, was sent home because the teacher had told him he had to wear nice pants, not jeans. Low income parish.
The number of obstacles the modern American diocese puts in the way of the sacraments is astonishing. We've even had a priest who refused communion to a congregant because she kneeled to receive.
So, huge rant, but yes, the sacraments are incredibly important. Good priests and bishops need to get those who are standing between people and those sacraments out of the way.

You are absolutely right. Jesus was not baptized as a baby. It was a dedication at the temple. He was baptized at the age of 30 by John Baptist to commit to doing his fathers will. Not as a baby!
Btw. There is no scripture that supports baby baptism. When you are old enough to know, you then make that decision you want to follow Christ.
You confess and repent of your sins and get baptized in water and spirit scripture says in ……
John 3:5, ESV: Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. @@StephenTruxton what church do you belong to that teaches that? First Acts Chapter 16 says NOTHING about any babies or even young children being baptized. Never ever “assume”what scripture says and never guess. Secondly baptism does not wash away your original sins at all. Who told you that? Jesus died on the cross for the payment of all ours sin caused by Adam n Eve for all of us if we believe!
Past Present and Future sins. Original sin has stained the entire world. Read
Romans 5:12, NLT: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam's sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.
Romans 5:12,…. Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned…. ALL
and it’s by God GRACE that we have been redeemed. Baptism does NOT remove or erase your sins. Thats false teachings. Baptism is a public declaration that you will follow Christ the rest of your life.
Original sin is in you till the day you die my friend. Otherwise why do you still go to church and confess your sins to priests ? It doesn’t just go away just because you’ve been baptized.

Baptism is the outward act (a visual testimony) that symbolises an individual coming to and accepting Jesus Christ as their Saviour, repenting of their sins, recognising and acknowledging Christ as their headship and choosing to live their lives according to the word of God given to us in the Bible. A baby or young child is not capable of such as they have no understanding of who God is and what baptism requires of them. My babies were not baptised but they were brought before our church Pastor for a blessing and dedication to the Lord to be prayed over them. They are raised Christian and my eldest was baptised at 15 years old when he had understanding of who God is and understood the purpose of baptism and what it symbolises. It is important for children to have parents that choose to daily live their lives according to the word of God, parents that read the Bible to their children, parents that daily nurture their children to have a relationship with God.

When I was a student nurse I worked a rotation in the neo natal intensive care unit. I was assigned a small baby born without internal organs to a crack addicted mother to work with. The baby was slowly dying and the mother was off living in a crack house in Newark NJ. The nurses in the NICU protected him and gave him comfort feeding to calm him. It was very sad. As a student nurse, I was trying to find something I could do for the baby. I saw in the chart the baby was Catholic, but had not been baptised. I paged for the hospital priest to come and shockingly he had the same last name as me and to hear: Paging Father Falcone over the loudspeaker! Wow it made me shake inside. Father came and baptised the baby and blessed with chrism and just about 20 minutes later the baby peacefully died...it was as if his little soul was hanging on long enough to be baptised. Little Manuel Guerica. I imagined him an angel who followed me in my nursing career. God rest his little soul.

Baptism of water & Spirit is 100% a matter of the heart. This baptism occurs internally not externally. Just as being baptized with fire occurs internally not externally. Do Catholics also dunk people into a fire pit? I don’t think they do. Yes, being literally baptized into water is a SYMBOL of what occurs internally, but does nothing to save you. Only faith in Christ can save you. Baptizing a new born makes zero sense as they have not yet put their faith in Christ. Baptism is an outward symbol of what has already occurred inward.

Many Protestant denominations seem to see baptism as a sacrament, something metaphysically holy and to be set apart for the Lord, they just (some of them, like anabaptists) think that you need to be almost grown to make that decision (it needs to be an act of faith and willingly and wantingly entering into the new covenant through Jesus).
The Bible doesn’t talk about children and babies getting baptized (although it does mention households getting baptized which could include children) ,
It does however talk about having faith, wanting to follow God and believing Jesus was the perfect sacrificial lamb to cleans our sins, then getting baptized.

Where in the Bible does it say that only adults should be baptized (Acts 16:15, Acts 16:33, 1 Corinthians 1:16)? Are not babies and children part of a household (Luke 18:15-16, Matthew 19:14)? When you file your taxes, do you exclude your small children as dependents?
If only those who have the intellectual capacity (age of reason) to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior can be baptized (saved), by this logic, those with cognitive disabilities cannot be baptized. Unfortunately, there are some Protestant churches who teach that children with Down syndrome and other types of cognitive disabilities cannot be baptized. The “Only children who reach the age of accountability can be baptized.” rule is a Protestant man-made rule that is unbiblical.
Baptism replaced circumcision. In the Bible, Jewish people didn’t wait to circumcise their son’s until they grew up and decided for themselves that they wanted to become Jewish. Likewise, the children of Christians must be baptized (Colossians 2:11-12). There is no good reasons to place impediments. Lastly, the Bible says that there is only one baptism (Ephesians 4:4-6). Baptism is a sacrament, not an emotion, symbol, or outward sign of an inward change. Unless you were not validly baptized with water and in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:18-20), there is no Biblical reason to be baptized “again”. Can we find any examples of anyone being “re-baptized” in the Bible?

In an emergency, anyone can baptize someone by pouring water on the head three times and saying I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. In an emergency (potential death) anyone is allowed to do that. However, if the person does live or pulls through than they need to be baptized the normal way (in my understanding)in a church by a priest. So I guess it depends. And I agree with you that the apostles teach teachings of Jesus through tradition that's why its not contrary to his teachings. Jesus established a church. Look at Matthew 18:15-17. Jesus says in verse 17 to take the problem to the church. For the woman at the well, Jesus says that Jerusalem won't be the only place to worship because after his death and resurrection, the Christians can worship him outside the walls of Jerusalem. I agree that we can go directly to God, but the church is here to help guide us to God. The church is a family, God's family that keeps us from falling of the boat.

Jesus gave the apostles to bind and loose (Matthew 18:18) Jesus also said " Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." Mark 16:16 . I agree with you however that the path to repent to God is always there and the church should not be an obstacle, however sometimes some people really do make it feel like it I will be honest.
I wouldn't agree that if a teaching is not in scripture it goes against scripture. Because many times in the bible the apostles say things such as " I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete." 2 John 12. The apostle John is saying he will be teaching them more things that will not be written. In the Catholic Church, the only time a person can be baptized again is if the person was not validly baptized or if it cannot be proven that the person was validly baptized. In that case, a conditional baptism is administered. What you are suggesting cannot be validly or licitly be done if the Baptism was valid. It also goes against sacred scripture in regards to Christian baptism.

But now as a Convert to Catholicism I believe the way The Catholic Church does things is the right way. If I had a baby I would Baptize them in the Church and encourage them to remain in The Faith and not go wandering elsewhere seeking what is already abundantly available in the home Church 🙏✝️💖

      Baptism Formula

      One Baptism
      Matthew 28:18-20
      Can only adults be baptized?
The Bible does not say that only adults should be baptized (Acts 16:15, Acts 16:33, 1 Corinthians 1:16)?
How many times can a person be baptized?
The Bible says that there is only one baptism (Ephesians 4:4-6). Baptism is a sacrament, not an emotion, symbol, or outward sign of an inward change. It is not a dead ritual. Unless you were not baptized with water and in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:18-20), there is no Biblical reason to be baptized “again”. There are no examples of anyone being “re-baptized” in the Bible. Any subsequent, “baptisms” are just a bath. I heard of a former Protestant Christian man who had to move for work four times, and consequently, was baptized four times! Every new church that he would attend would assure him that he was not validly baptized in his previous church. Once he became Catholic, he didn’t have to be baptized because the Church recognized that one of his previous baptisms was valid.
Must I be fully immersed to be validly baptized?
Some may argue that you must be completely immersed in the water to be validly baptized but this is incorrect. You just need water and proper manner. The Church has the authority to change baptism from full immersion to pouring or sprinkling. You can still be baptized in full immersion but during times of persecution the practice in the Roman Rite changed to sprinkling or pouring of water. During times of persecution, Christians could not be baptized in public areas like the sea or rivers. Because Christianity was illegal, believers could be killed if caught baptizing in public. Therefore, baptism by full immersion, pouring or sprinkling are valid.
      Can babies be baptized?
      Baptism Now Saves
      1 Peter 3:21
In Acts 2:38 we see that St. Peter is urging adults to repent and be baptized. Some may believe that this is proof that only adults should be baptized. It is true that no where in the Bible do we see the apostles preaching to babies. But we do not need a verse such as this to demonstrate that babies can be baptized too. Here, St.Peter is preaching to non-believers. Once they repent and are baptized, THEN they can have their household (including babies) baptized. The Catholic Church does not go around baptizing babies without the permission of at least one parent. It is the believing parent(s) responsibility to have their children baptized.
What about the thief on the cross?
The thief on the cross was saved although he was not baptized (Luke 23:39-43). The thief confessed that he was a sinner and received forgiveness from Jesus. This shows that God made an exception to the rule. This act of mercy did not nullify His command to baptize and be baptized.
      Conclusion
It is important to read scripture in light of scripture and tradition. Remember, the Church gave us the Bible, not the other way around. Protestants of the Oneness Pentecostal tradition often use Acts 2:38 to “show” that we must only baptize in the name of Jesus, and not in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. When a person reads the Bible apart from the Church, they can interpret scripture to mean anything, and come up with all sorts of new doctrines.

In the Creed we confess ONE baptism. As long as it was done in proper form, "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit" it is the only one that is valid. In any subsequent "baptism" you are just getting a bath. The amount of water isn't important either, the intent is.

When Jesus was on the cross, he said to one of the malfactors "this day you will be with me in paradise". He didn't say we have to come down off these crosses so I can baptise you. Baptism is ceremony to say you believe Jesus was resurected.
