Such a well spoken kid. And you can tell the parents made sure to tell him that it's fine to have Tourettes so he doesn't become insecure and can accept himself as he is. It's beautiful to see.
Hi Parker! I just found out I have Tourette’s and I am a 28 year old woman. I had symptoms when I was a kid and they weren’t significant so we never brought it up to our doctors. Mine gets more frequent and severe when I’m anxious/nervous/worrying. But when I am calm and relaxed, I usually don’t have any that manifest. Living with Tourette’s, I hardly ever think about it and think it’s so great you have family and friends that treat you the same as anyone else! Super proud of you for living your life and have become adjusted to something that really isn’t a big deal after all. Thanks for doing this video! 💙
Same here, but not as bad today as when I was a kid. This kid’s pretty cool. He seems very smart.
I disagree with the notion in the video that Tourette’s is how we were “created.” -as if it is just how we were meant to be. I could be totally wrong about that. I’m sure some people have natural tendencies to develop it, but I would say it’s largely environmental and dependent upon your social and environmental influences.
I did have extreme Tourette’s when I was younger, but I never got a diagnosis. This was about 1997 or so back before every phenomenon had a label attached to it. My parents never took me to a psychiatrist or doctor, maybe because of the stigma, or maybe because of other reasons. So it’s in retrospect that I realized I had it.
Anyway, I would literally blink my eyes, shake my head vigorously, stretch open my mouth and sniff my nose intensely all at once like a million times a day. I would get made fun of constantly. I never heard the term Tourette’s in the 90s; it was just, “yeah, he’s got some tics.” I don’t know how that affected me, it’s hard to tell. I’m not doing the best right now, but I’m not complaining.
Tourette’s is something you’re born with. It has nothing to do with environment. It may make it worse but it is binary, you are born with it or not
@@youtubemoderationtaskforce5583 Although the environmental stress can impact the severity of the symptoms, the causes are mainly genetical and a dysfunction in the brain. I've had a mild form of Tourette for all my life , I have two siblings raised in the same environment and I'm the only one who has it. So social and environmental influence do not explain it.
Otherwise, my story is similar to yours, I'm 64 and found out about Tourette only recently! The only thing my parents did about it when I was a child was telling me: "Stop doing this!"
@@TartempionLampion yeah you’re probably right. My brothers didn’t have Tourette’s, but I do. It must run on my dad’s side. My cousin still has a tic in her neck and she’s like 42.

I’ve had Tourettes my entire life and I am now 34 years old. Growing up with pretty severe ticks, was tough because kids would always stare at me, point at me, and make fun of me. So dealing with that, was always hard for me . But as I grew older I was able to kind of mellow my ticks out. They are still there, everyday, and especially if I’m nervous, excited, stressed, etc. my ticks get worse. But nowadays I’ve just learned to accept it, not be ashamed or feel sorry for myself, and also watching videos like this! I love that I can relate to all these other people that have to deal with this disease as well. Not having to feel so alone all the time makes a big difference with my overall well being.
Parker, I admire you. You’ll go far in life with your winning personality! Your brother and sister seem really sweet too!

How is normality a construct? "Normal" is just the most common way for something to occur. If something can be assumed in most cases, it's "normal". Personally, I think we spend far too much time and energy obsessing over normality. No one is completely normal or completely abnormal. None of it should matter.

I also have Tourette’s; for myself it’s especially difficult to control when garbage platforms like UA-cam block comments on channels like this, while allowing them on racist and pervert channels. The obscenities spill out just thinking about it...
Im 23 and I've started developing multiple tics just in the last 2 months. My sister has had tics ever since she was little, I wish we'd had such an eloquent and confident person like Parker to show her when she was just developing them 🧡

Hi Parker! I know I am late to the party, but I just found your video and I’m so glad I did! It was wonderful hearing you talk about your syndrome. I am a 55-year-old American Buddhist nun who has been clumsy and loud and twitchy her whole life. My family never heard of a syndrome like this, so I was never taken to a doctor for it. They just accepted me for who I was although my school teachers sent home notes saying that I needed to quiet down in class! L O L I was diagnosed with Tourette’s last year, when I finally saw a neurologist and suddenly so many things made sense. I did not know anything about it so videos like yours have really helped me learn about myself. I also noticed my tics get much worse when I am anxious or stressed. Thank you so much for this wonderful video that helps people like me understand ourselves better.
I love your work. You helping make it easier to approach people who are different. I think mini more people would be friendly they just don’t know how. My 6 year old son has been diagnosed with a motor tic disorder in the last year (although in hindsight we had maybe seen some signs the year prior) - we showed him this video as an example of him not being alone and I can't tell you how comforting it was to me to be able to share this with him. Please keep doing what you're doing... hearing from people with disorders and differences is so eye-opening and something I don't see in this format anywhere else. THANK YOU

This brings so much joy to me. The understanding of mental health and acceptance we have today. I have Tourette’s and grew up in the 90s. Mental health, at the time was very unaccepting in lots of ways. People in my life, my family, school did not really understand. People always thought I was a naughty kid who wanted to disrupt things or break things on purpose. When in reality, I was having an uncontrollable tic that actually knocked over something or made a loud noise. I was always not included in activities at school because they thought I would ruin them and none of the kids want to hang out with me and they all ridiculed me. I had no friends growing up. To make matters worse, some of the tics started getting painful physically and that made me worry even more. I wasn’t diagnosed until it got really bad. My pediatrician had pointed it out. Even so, I was made fun of and bullied at school until it was addressed. Even when that happened, I was always told that I was not normal and something was wrong with me. I was considered broken, etc by the adults around me. Always taking me to groups putting me in different places that made me feel like I wasn’t normal. I had a rough time growing up.
The acceptance we see today for mental health just makes me have so much hope for the future that kids would not have to go through the same thing I went through growing up.❤

my brother and i both have tourette’s ! i’m glad our parents raised us to not be insecure about it and educated us about the syndrome 😄 i have a very annoying throat tick that causes me to hold my breath sometimes and it’s so physically/mentally exhausting because you really CANT stop :( it’s nice to see other parents doing the same though for their children though💛
I wished I would've come across this video years ago! I've been with my husband for 3 years but known him for 8 years and I just had no idea....i didn't know why the twitches, humming and constant blinking.... It's so easy to be ignorant 😞 it wasn't till our first year of marriage and living togheter that i noticed they were constant. I thought it was cute and had a nickname for it until he told me not to mention it anymore.

An extremely intelligent, well spoken young man. He's very mature about it, open, and straight forwards. He is completely correct, about being frankly honest with your children, but not traumatising them or making a huge deal. They just are how they are. And that's OK.

I have been diagnosed with Tourette’s by a psychiatrist a few weeks ago. I’m a 16 year old girl. It feels nice to know that I’m not alone with my tics, after being undiagnosed for about i think 10 years from now. Its actually pretty funny to acknowledge them, I have lots of them, the most common ones are eye twitching, raising my arms up in the air and random bro-fists

I'm a young woman with Tourette Syndrome and this is really inspiring. When I was a little kid I always wanted to hide it and now that I'm older I want to work through it and educate others. All my friends and family accept who I am and you can always find your people that love you for who you are.
I had a friend with Tourette's and he was so sweet. Yes he would yell some cuss words but we all thought It was a little funny ans when he would do we would all laugh, even him. His name Is Jim and he had to move but when he was in my town, he was my BESTEST friend. He wasn't afraid of what he had and I loved him for that. We shared many laughs and I was there for him and he was there for me. I love him but when he moved I was so sad but then I found a way to communicate with him through messenger and we are both happy. He and I play video games together and I just want to say that people with Tourette's are just like us. He is so sweet and I love him. They are just like us. I agree that parents should explain Tourette's to those who are unaware of it because it helps them understand when they hear or see a tick. I love people with Tourette's because they aren't different, they're unique. 🥰😍❤️
Parker makes a good spokesperson and advocate for himself and condition. I can see him doing great things in his future.
Years ago I worked at a hotel in Puerto Rico at the registration desk and I was checking in a guest when I realized that he was having a Tourette's seizure and I was aware of the symptoms I patiently waited until it was over and finished checking him in and wished him a wonderful stay. Two of my coworkers giggled and ran off. I let them know how ignorant they were and educated them on what Tourette's was and what the symptoms were. So Parker keep being strong and positive as you are! By the way this gentleman was a top executive of a very well known company!!

It's nice to profile someone with Tourette's that doesn't have coprolalia. Most people with Tourette's do not shout profanity, but people always associate that with the syndrome because it's usually the severe cases that get profiled.
My son has Tourette's and he's a lot like this boy. He's a teen now and his OCD behaviors have gotten worse over the last couple years. Thinking it may be time to seek therapy to help him reign those in so that they don't make life hard for him as he enters adulthood. Being stuck in the house over the last 18 months or so certainly hasn't helped his situation any.
I have coprolalia and I feel a lot of unnecessary guilt from it cause I'm perpetuating a harmful stereotype just by existing, even though I can't control it and it's just how I am... I love hearing about people with different experiences with the disorder than me, though. Seeing all the different ways it can manifest makes me feel more valid, if that makes sense? I wish the best for you and your son :)

I have tourettes and it gets annoying at points but also can bring joy. To be honest if I didnt have a tic disorder a half of me would be gone. It's hard, stay strong!

His tics are just like mine, I always flex my right elbow and it leaves it sore. I've even splashed hot coffee all over the place at a gas station.
I used to do the blinking tics as a kid and my parents would just write it off as too many video games, but then it would also happen when I play sports so it wasn't that
My son was diagnosed 4 years ago in 3rd grade and he said the same thing - he was so happy to know what was going on with his body and that it was an actual condition causing his tics. He said he liked having a name to it.
