Just a heads up y'all! You don't have to use a mixer when you make the kick. You can just use a second VCA because they are the same thing essentially. Many ways to skin a cat. 😁 Happy patching!
its tutorials like this that really help explain what you are hearing instead of just using a drum machine module. I appreciate these immensely as I learn a lot more from this then learning how to use a drum machine
Nice simple foundation. A kind of "Here's the backbone" Maybe a follow up video could show some ideas for building on top of this for variety? Keep em coming, whatever you want to talk about. Good stuff.
That would be sick! A patch that has all of these drums in it is in my free patch collection. If a sequencer was added it would be ready to go! I'll add one and update the patch tomorrow. ✌️😁
for the kick you don't need Mixer, it is enough with one more VCA. for the snare i added NOIS nad VCO(sine) in CVMIX (also from VCV fundamentals) and it produced closer to real snare sound.. cheers! (ninja edit: also I should read comments before commenting. maybe??? )
@@yourpalrob Thank you for your diligent efforts. Years ago, I created a few animation tutorials on my sister channel, iamYork, so I am acutely aware of the significant time investment and the often minimal rewards involved in producing these types of videos. As a hobbyist in modular synthesis, a professional sound designer, and a film editor, I greatly appreciate your articulate and easily comprehensible explanations, which make for a truly enjoyable experience. Your conceptualizations of modules alone inspire numerous ideas for my own setups. Keep up the outstanding work. I am an avid admirer.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it! I've been having a lot of fun making these videos, even though it sometimes takes me a while to create them. It's really nice to know that folks have found them useful 😁. Many more videos to come!
Right on! I'll totally make some more with just the defaults. In all of my videos, I only use free modules so if you see any you like you can always download them from the VCV Rack Library. 🤘😄
how do you hear the sound in the first drum sound you made? I see that there are 4 connections happening that weren't explained coming out of the VCA output
Those connections are going to the stock audio module and the stock record module. The audio module is how you hear the sound. You select your audio device in the little window on the module, and it should play when you connect audio cables to it. The record module is used to make audio or video recordings and that's what I use to make these videos. There are 4 cables because I hooked them up in stereo. Not necessary but a force of habit ✌️😁
If you want to use the seq 3 sequencer with triggers, you'd have to set up an individual one for each drum and chain them together. You'd run the trigger and reset output from one to the clock and reset inputs of the other two. Pressing reset on the master now syncs up the 3 drums. Personally I would opt for a different clock and sequencer combo. I really like using clocked by impromptu and the 16 step sequencer by count modula. You'll have enough trigger outputs on the 16 step for each drum and you'll have more steps to make patterns.
really cool thanks for this! beginner question here... at approx 47seconds, your vca out is making 3 connections to modules off screen... would love to know what those are! guessing one is the audio in.
Great question! It is split into 4. I am sending it to the right and left input of the stock audio module and the right and left input of the stock record module. I record all of the audio for the videos directly in VCV Rack so in this case I pulled two sets of cables from that VCA. You really only need to pull two cables and plug them into the left inputs, but it is a force of habit for me to set the audio in stereo.

Right on, @umop3plsdn! I'm glad you liked it. Videos like these are some of my favorites to make too. 😄

Thank you, CatFish! That's a great idea. Make some funky beats with the stock modules.
Would love to see what a group of people would generate with this as a communal drumkit pack!

Thanks dude! These comments are great. I just tried the snare recommendation and it is a solid snare sound.
Straight to the point! Love this!
Thank you, @albert4392. I'm glad you like it ✌️😁
Wow... I'm impressed.. well done!!
Thank you! @AlexPettyMusic ✌️😁
"1:09" perfection achieved
Haha, thank you for the comment, @IwatoHyena!

@yourpalrob looking forward to them
This is great
No, you
Thanks!
No problem, @aleksdizhe! Thank you for the comment 😁
@yourpalrob thank u for making video with using only default modules :)) would be great to see more of such videos :)

how would I make it so all three drums are synchronised? like if there was one seq 3 to trigger all of them?
