Hi Fray. I just ordered the Blood Run 10’6” Ironhead float rod and I got an extra $10 off thanks to the offer on your video. This rod has all the specs I have been looking for to replace an old St. Croix Wild Rivers float rod I have had for years and needed to be replaced. It will be the perfect rod to fish jigs and beads for winter and summer steelhead out here in Oregon. Your channel is awesome by the way. Tight lines!
@@alexanderk7894 8-12# line, fast action, medium heavy power. On sale at Blood Run for $99.00 ($60.00 off) and use “Fray” at check out and get another $10 off.
When I build rods, I wrap tiny bands starting at 16" on the blank, changing colors every 4". No need for a tape measure. I just hold the butt of the rod at the tail of the fish and take a measurement.
It is an Abu Garcia silver max I just purchased looking for something cheap. I don't know anything about bc reels so I'm not sure if it will be ideal or not, but getting the job done so far
I'm going steelhead fishing this weekend for the first time. I'll be starting somewhere mid state and working north if needed. Maybe even in grand rapids. You gonna hit the dam while your there?
@Jason Deslatte caught one on Sunday. A 19" hatchery hen. Lost one like 4 feet from the net too. Definitely got to work on it tho. Took 19 hours of fishing. Got it in the last hour or so.
Hi fray, what mainline are you using on your baitcaster? I have mine spooled up with some Trilene mono and the memory is terrible. The line comes off the spool in tight coils and causes a lot of extra friction in the guides meaning I cannot get a drag free drift! I tried boiling the line but didn't help much. I'm about ready to switch to braid. Wondering what you would recommend.
I've been fishing steelhead in the PNW for close to 40 years now. Many of us in these parts like to use baitcasters for float fishing for many obvious reasons. Where I very from many is I like to use a 40lb to 50lb braid as a my mainline. I do this not for strength but because it floats cleaner on the surface especially in choppy water. I also grease the first 30 to 40 yards with wax or fly floatant and this makes it really easy to mend with almost zero movement on the float. I then transition to a 10lb to 15lb leader depending on water conditions.
I have three trapped steelhead in front of me. They won't bite. Low water waterfall on the up flow side, sandy rocks on the downside too shallow for them to pass.
Still great to watch. I’m getting my mojo for winter steelhead fishing!! Thanks 🎉
I got say Fray, you got really good content. Never disappointed or clickbait. Thanks for the great vids 👍

Great video!! When are you coming out to the northwest to tangle with our steelhead??
I would like to come but from the Netherlands is a bit far. But I love watching your videos.
Used your code to restock my Skeena hooks!
any reason for the bait caster over the center pin? I'm just curious, I'm a bait caster myself was thinking about getting a center pin .
Yes, mainly the extremely fast retrieve compared to centerpin is convenient. Also easier casting in some situations
@@FishFray Thanks man, noted. I'll stick with my bait casting set up. I appreciate the response. Keep up the awesome content.
Slappin em bro!
Oh I so want to do this but need a mentor to get me started
How do you not have 1m subs!keep it up 🔥

Fray, can't make your seminar in Grand Rapids. Out of town on business. Any chance you can record and post at a video?
I live in Ionia Mich, where is this channel from?????
I’ve been trying to catch a steelhead for a bit of time now is there a certain time that is best to target them?

Sounds like spring has arrived wherever you are!
@@FishFray I am just down the road from the Sport show you are at tonight.
what kind of red float do you have on your line fray
I use 15g floats from blood run tackle, see link in video description. Thanks !
Fray what size bait cast do you use? Looks like mostly wild fish that u landed too good to see.
It is an Abu Garcia silver max, not sure about the size as I don't know how size works with baitcaster reels!
I’m loving the music. Song?
what is red on your line
what size jigs do you use?
1/16 or 1/32, normally
@@FishFray thanks for the reply man
could be bear creek?
What river is that?
I don't name the rivers I'm fishing, I fish all over West Michigan and Northern Ohio year-round
Gonna be coming down for the skams at all this year?
I bet his son won't turn out transgender
