    Koi looking well mate. Good video explaining the coatings, I did a similar one last year, it ain’t quite as bad as people think to heat with an inline heater 👍🏼👌🏼

      It's not awful, I find it's when you start working out what else you could spend it on it seems worse. Typical that I choose the coldest week ever🤣 think if it cost that everyweek I'd be a little more upset . Cheers dude 👍

    Looking good Dave buddy but why such a drastic drop in water ❓️🧁👍👍👍

      Cheers twisted. 2 reasons- one to check them properly don't normally go this low but to video with the glare and see properly I have to go right down. But 2) I do big water changes where I feed alot because of dissolved organics - it stops them eating the same amount as when the waters clean, slows the appetite. In this tiny capacity it's concentrated. I'm paying to heat this I want them to grow at max 🤣🤣🤣

    Wow that sounds expensive to me,you must be losing a lot of heat ,i would of thought a 300w fish tank heater would be ample if fully insulated

      Yeah it is when you think what is on. very cold week and you think its 29c above ambeint temp thats a big gap to hold. Maybe I'll do a week with an aquarium heater to compare. I used aquariums heaters on the bigger tub in doors last year they couldn't hold anywhere near desired temp and were on 100% of the time. I have done videos showing how much it's insulated previously

    Hey Dave, Happy New Year to you and your lovely family. I would change supplier if I were you, although £25.00 a week, it does seem a lot, especially when you see how much it costs @Wrighty to heat his whole pond ! Koi are looking FAB though to be fair. What is your must have Koi this year? I'm looking for Benigoi and another nice Showa. Have a great week mate. 👍

      🤣🤣🤣 thay cat lives to annoy me. 🤣Happy new year to you to yeah need to get suppliers changed, hopefully April will drop a bit and some decent deals will come out. Fecking nightmare. Especially when you think about what it used to cost. Heating water isn't cheap. The higher above ambient the worse it gets.
      I dunno I'd love to say I'll pick one , but I know i won't. This year I want to focus on getting more systems up and running. Wouldn't mind an Isa Showa tho 🤣

    Nice update Dave, thanks for the power usage and cost figures. Good to know as considering heating mine a little soon..🤔
    Will let the temps come up a bit first tho, as don’t fancy the £25 a week just now. 🤔😕😂

      Cheers dude. All over, a proper mixture of places. Exclusivly Koi, Cuttlebrrok Koi farm, Koi Carp Ltd, Koi logic, Manor Koi. Doing the thing we aren't supposed to do in mixing sources🤣 because everywhere i go i have to buy a fish 🤣but I do run a QT

    Fish are looking super, as you were sitting at 24Deg and then done a large water change what temp water did you add back in 🤔🙏 what have you been feeding? Thanks 🙏

      I've been waiting for someone to twig this🤣 I topped up with 24c water.. avoids the heat up cost of the fresh water and no shock to the fish. What allows me to do bigger water change. I am currently feeding saki hikari growth medium pellet, soaked in spirinula, beetroot, chlorella, paprika, beetroot and propolis. There's a Short on the channel showing the mix. Twisted and new forest inspired.👍😊

      @OrchardKoi nice one thanks for the reply might be a stupid question but how did you get the water going in at 24deg 🤔🙏

    • @OrchardKoi
      @OrchardKoi  Рік тому +2

      @scrag68 hot tap scrag. Got a hose adapter for the tap and run it to the hose. Trick I learnt keeping tropical/marine. Other end all the same, get the mixer tap to right place (can do it almost by guess now) once it's there connect it up up, still going through dechlorinator etc. Downside is i do get it in the neck for hogging the kitchen tap🤣

      I've not pulled em out at all to measure them yet. Will leave that for a while tbh, Just wanna pile as much food as possible in while I'm paying for the heating 🤣 less i disturb them then better. I am wondering when the small size is going to start to cause me problems 🤔

    Hi Dave. I'll be honest, £3.60/day is super expensive to heat 1000L of water. Especially considering it has insulation and is sheltered by a tunnel. Why so much water dropped in the IBC? that must have been a dramatic shift in water temperature?

    • @OrchardKoi
      @OrchardKoi  Рік тому +1

      Not when the temp has sat in the -5 most of the week. As I said pretty drastic for our normal weather, cost an awful lot more than normal I know that from the smart meter. I've had aquariums cost more to heat indoors. Your opinion which your entitled too obvs 😊👍 and no dramatic shift in water temp I match the incoming temp to the tub.

      Found this very helpful and am thinking of using my own 3kw inline electro heater,as from what you have shown, I don't think the cost is as bad as I had previously thought,plus you have the benefits of feeding,growth and ultimately the health of the koi over the really cold spells we are having. All in all I would say the benefits outweigh the costs. Ultimately it's a personal choice and not all have the funds to get an air source heater. Very much appreciated and everyone will have their own thoughts. In the end, I would be with you as to how practical it has been 👍

      @OrchardKoi  Рік тому

      @user-oi2qi5vo1r yeah 100% comes down to initial cost vs ongoing cost . an air source in -5 isn't going to heat 29 degrees above ambient either, that's the big variable the outside temp. Been much cheaper on a milder week. Cheers for your thoughts, always interesting to hear 😊👍
