Wow what a difference 5 years (or arguably more) can make. Watching the hornet in DCS and carrier ops in DCS is such a difference. Granted, I still have to give BMS credit for being a 90's era game that still holds up relatively speaking.

Great video... One problem... Case II operations only happen in day time. 30 min before sun up to 30 min after sundown. Night recoveries are ALWAYS case III. -AC2 (AW)-
No landing lights on the deck or on approach. Anti-collision lights come on when you're ready to take--off at night....it's the night time salute. No need to say "state", "Hornet Ball, 6.8." Full power over the ramp instead of on touch-down is probably why you boltered twice.

However, I want to say I recall some calls as "Super Hornet Ball" so I dont know if they are interchangeable? EDIT: Never-mind, According to NATOPS FLIGHT MANUAL NAVY MODEL F/A-18E/F it is explicitly Rhino Ball so your right, thanx!
Alas, my BMS simply refuses to recognize and remember my axis assignments: IM not sure is it too many axis that confuses him or it is something else but i cant make it work with Saitek X55 + Track IR5 + Saitek rudder; Suddenly thrust becomes rudder, yaw is pitch, roll is throttle, etc etc.. I realize that BMS is freeware, but , ffs did any1 tested it before release. Had to drop every attempt after so many game breaking bugs.
Hey Burner, I like your informative tutes on BMS 4.33, they are excellent. I'm very interested in the AV-8B+ Harrier V/STOL and all that, have you are done any tutes on that aircraft, I'd just like to know its full capability in BMS so we can integrate it into missions with my mates who tend to fly F-16s. Kavelenko the harrier is an awesome and uniquely special aircraft . I've been interested in learning it as well but I don't have any tutorials on it. It is an amazing aircraft. I think they're coming out with a DCS version as well
Thanks for your reply BurnerTactical, yes I agree its such a fun aircraft to fly and seems to be a natural fit for Carrier ops. I made a 18min video recently using the AV-8B+ but its nothing like the tutes you have produced so far. ua-cam.com/video/NN54Hm3mpPE/v-deo.html. Everything I've learned about it is from the few vids around but there are not many, I've only been flying the Harrier in BMS for a few weeks and I'm hooked! If you do have the time, I'd love to see your opinion on the Harrier and how it differs from other jets in BMS.

Hey i have being trying to get an approach like yours but the flight model of some of the hornets dont behave the same way as in the video. I have two questions... when taking off, the aircraft always dips even with stick held back, and stall warning sounds briefly. Also even with no stores and not a lot of fuel, I can't seem to go under 180 knots without the flight path marker getting the "x" through it, and feeling like I'm going to stall/have to pull back as plane is not smooth in the least bit. Any answers would be appreciated, thanks!

DCS is an amazing military simulation....it was originally conceived as a desktop trainer for the Indiana Air National Guard for the A-10. Before that, Falcon 3.0 was also being developed for the Air National Guard for the F-16. The major difference is the dynamic combat generator that BMS has. Its not just a flight sim....its a entire war theatre sim. You are just one pilot, in one package, out of numerous fighters, tanks, infantry, moving in the battlefield. And it is all generated in real time....the war happens all around you usually at 60 fps.
McBlemmen Bro, they've actually released multiple study level sims since the A-10C. I will list all the planes with full simulation, highest level flight model, fully clickable cockpit, study level simulation: AJS-37 Viggen, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, F-5E Tiger II, M-2000C, L-39 Albatross, Hawk T.1A, MiG-15bis, C-101 Aviojet, Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst, MiG-21bis, Fw 190 D-9 Dora, F-86F Sabre, P-51D Mustang, A-10C Thunderbolt II. The next plane will likely be the F/A-18C Hornet, and a third party company is working on the F-14 Tomcat module. I believe all of the helicopters in DCS are study level and fully clickable, though not sure. Also, of the Flaming Cliffs 3 planes, the F-15C and I believe the Su-27S have now been upgraded to their "Professional Flight Model" (PFM.) Which is the highest level simulation they provide, and the level used on all of their study level modules. The only thing those two planes don't have is the fully clickable cockpit and every system perfectly simulated. I believe the rest of the FC3 planes are AFM (Advanced Flight Model) with carrier landing stuff using scripting and their more basic Standard Flight Model (SFM.) That's something they're working on as they plan to release the F-18. (Note: Some of the printed materials still say the F-15C has AFM, but asking mods on the Steam forum for the game and then ultimately emailing Eagle Dynamics to confirm, I was told that the F-15C indeed has the PFM.) You're right that Falcon 4 / BMS is much better at simulating missions and the war overall though. DCS is more just simulating individual flights or portions of flights. It does have a pretty powerful Mission Editor and Campaign Maker, but no way to really make dynamic campaigns that simulate an entire theater/war.
Hey, after hitting the deck and getting stopped I'm unable to taxi. Hook is up, NWS on, wings fold/spread even with full AB I'm stuck on my landing position. Any ideas?
Youll need Falcon 4.0 installed via steam or GOG store.steampowered.com/app/429530/ Then register on the forum and download here: www.bmsforum.org/forum/showthread.php?26567-Falcon-BMS-4-33-U1-Full-Installer
***** I have to disagree with you. DCS World is one of the best sims in the flight sim world. I like the fact that the combat arena is what it is in DCS World and you have to admit that the mission editor is the best around.
On speed has nothing to do with a set in concrete speed but rather weight. The proper approach speed, whether for a huge airliner, or a military jet is all about Angle of Attack (AOA). The heavy the aircraft, the higher the approach speed. Regardless of the weight, pilots will fly the same AOA. (For purposes of this video I was overweight for a carrier landing hence the much higher speed....but this was for demonstration purposes) Usually Navy pilots come back to the boat at a minimum carrier landing weight with ordanance gone and fuel consumed, hence the typical 140 knots approach speed. A very light hornet flying AOA might get down to 130 knots approach.
The DCS Hornet is also "not a real Hornet." Its a pretend Hornet on a computer screen and its the closet most can get to a real life multi-million dollar fighter. Flight simulators are meant for pretending we are flying either for training purposes or entertainment. We also fly DCS WWII fighters in Georgia and pretend its 1945. So my point is that we simmers and all flight simulators are all "pretending"..... I am a long time fan of Janes F/A-18, Microsoft Flight Simulator X VRS Super Hornet, Seven G, and I think the BMS Hornet is a good flight model albeit it borrows the F-16s avionics. The BMS development team did the best they could with what they had. I am sure that the DCS will surpass all of these as far as fidelity, avionics, and flight model; however, Falcon 4.0 BMS as full war campaign which is still unmatched. Lets keep pretending.....and fly on.
DCS has absolutely nothing on the immersion that BMS gives, the ability of multiple aircraft at a cheap to free price with very decent flight models and totally unmatched online multiplayer campaigns. That black sea map makes me sick the amount of times Ive flown it, so boring even with the 2.5.

Matt Rowland that dcs hornet is a pretty plane. Only action it will see is sight seeing and flybys by tall buildings
