Deann Dragoun bennett Absolutely agreed! If I see shit like that, I’ll do the same thing as you did. We all stick together here regardless of who and where we’re from. ❤️
"Catering to the ears of ppl who know music".....one of the best ways to describe ANY band that really speaks to you....I only wish it was ME that came up with that line....
I don't know who told you not to watch the video...But i disagree with them the video is such a GREAT part of the experience but that's just my opinion
In general rock songs are better if you just listen and don't get distracted by the music video. This particular song is a rare exception. The video is really well produced, and compliments the music.
I’d rather they always watch lyric videos first. So they can grasp the message of the song without being distracted by any visuals. They can always watch the music videos or live versions later on and it gives them more content to put out
Look at the song from this angle: put on a little make up to hide the scars from the shake up (cover your scars from a beating) here comes another fable (lie about the shake up)... I cry when angels deserve to die (innocent victims).. Father why have you forsaken me (Jesus quote from the bible). Pretty deep, right?
Actually he said in an interview it's about how people are judged differently if they die by suicide or drug overdose. They wanted to call the song suicide but record company wouldn't allow that.
I've always interpreted "when angels deserve to die" as talking about someone that everyone thinks is a good and caring person (an "angel") but they're secretly abusive and sadistic (which is why they "deserve" to die)
This song has many parallels with the Book of Enoch and how God is going to destroy the fallen angels because they claim they are self righteous. In that case, angels do deserve to die lol
It’s more of how people put on a front when they’re depressed and contemplating suicide and pretending they’re ok when they’re really hurting inside. “Why’d you leave the keys up on the table” is because when you leave the house to commit suicide, you’re not coming back and don’t to take them with you.
system of a down is a worthy rabbit hole, they're musical, melodic, aggressive, kings of the switch ups and they always have a message. Next in line is "system of a down - Toxicity" video wouldn't impact your reaction imo. Great reactions man!
When I first heard SOAD even though I've been listening to rock, I had the shock of my life. Turned out, I wasn't the only one. These guys are revolutionary.
Love your comment "they're catering to those who know music." I grew up on rock and metal, all of it even the screamy stuff. As I grew older and learned about all music I can't listen to stuff thats just noise and screaming any more. This is how metal should be done. At least for my tastes.
I can tell you really like the drums on these songs. I'm telling you man, Primus is a 3 man band that is extremely talented with a great drummer Tim "herb
System of a down - ”Deer dance”, ”Hypnotize” or ”Bombs”, some of their most political songs with very strong messages. EDIT: Also, if you want some sick SOAD drums, check out ”Know” and "I-E-A-I-A-I-O". Toxicity is also a good shout, but imo quite overrated. Might be good for getting into the band though. Also some heavy drums on that one. John Dolmayan is a very underrated drummer.
You really hit the mail right on the head when you said that it’s like they cater to the ear of people who know music. A lot of people could hear this, and just judge it immediately and put it in the noise category, but this band is amazing. Just the vocal range on the lead singer is ridiculous. Very talented.
I really like when people react for first time to soad,i remember that days discovering all that crazy sound, blowing my mind haha, greetings from Mexico!
The song is about violence against women - using makeup to hide the bruises, telling lies to cover the fact that they've been beaten to begin with, and in the end killing themselves. Their suicides being self-righteous because it's (from their point of view) an escape. "When angels deserve to die" is a reference to an old religious saying, that an angel dies every time someone kills themselves. He's crying because he understands the pain these women go through that drive them to ending their own lives.
Amazing drummer for classic rock band Rush just passed away. Neal Peart. He also wrote the lyrics for the songs. If you want to see some amazing drumming, watch the video for Tom Sawyer.
You’re right about the fable line, the person is presenting a lie out into the world, but it isn’t about makeup or looking good, it’s about hiding depression & masking emotions
Great reaction. Bro, you wanna hear a rock singer with some pipes. Check out skid row "wasted time" or "18 and life".... sebastian bach is hands down one of the most underrated rock singers ever. The comment section no doubt will agree. Check out these videos.
“Catering to the people who know music”. Yes! Exactly! So many people gave me the side eye when they heard me listening to SOAD but I made them sit down and LISTEN. Grew up on Zeppelin, Pink Floyd…Instruments are the emotions, the words are the truth. Metallica also did this…Tool, Slipknot etc
Love how you pointed out the message along side the progression of the melody. Great review, and pretty proper reaction for the first time hearing the:p
John Dolmayan is one of my favorite drummers! Met him at a show...and Dave Grohl. Dave is the lead singer of the Foo Fighters but he was also the drummer in Nirvana.
this is in the perspective of Jesus dying on the cross. Therefore reciting a lot of the bible Luke 23:46: "Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit" .Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34: "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" This also relates to "self-righteous suicide"
This song is Party in the front, emotions in the back. The way the song is built is a reflection of the message it brings. (In my opinion). Putting on a front to disguise what's behind. They got that super hyped up first half, they hit you with the slow parts in between as if to let the emotions seep out. The last parts are the true face, how you really feel.
Love watching people listen to SOAD for the first time and watching them become fans. I read somewhere that this song is about Jesus and his apostles. The apostles (why'd you leave the keys on the table? here you go create another fable etc.) talking to Jesus, and Jesus replying about his self-righteous suicide. Check out any of their songs mate their all bangers :)
great reaction!! Great dissection of the themes, the music, and the vocals. There's alot of switch-ups in this song, so it was cool to see u getting into each part
Great reaction my man. The one song you must check out of theirs is Spiders. It is a vocal masterpiece and the instrumental transitions are crazy. Do the video to it as well. ✌
Great reaction, man! Like you say, System Of A Down was not your run of the mill band. They had a unique sound, and you can tell that they love to play music and make beautiful songs. The vocal harmonies are just gorgeous, and the songs very memorable. Also, as you said, they really shine in their use of dynamics - playing soft as a whisper in one part and then jumping right into very heavy, staccato sections. Armenian scales in there as well because I believe at least two of the guys have Armenian heritage. Bottom line is S.O.A.D. was one of the most unique bands to emerge from the 90s.
Man... been binging your reaction videos tonight... started with your Rage Against the Machine videos, and now going more places... really love how you react... and you hit in the head here with "they are catering to people who know music" comment, what you said was just amazing! Serj has a fenomenal vocal range and Daron is pretty great too (he had his own band for a while where he was the lead vocalist!)
LOVE the harmony on the line talking about 'self-righteous suicide" Love catching the religious symbolism in the lyrics. I read they are all Armenian American, and maybe it's all in my head, but some of their harmonies have the feel of the Middle East.
And what have they done about any of it besides complain? I know stuff like the Armenian genocide is important to them, but the hard truth is no one cares about it except those of Armenian descent. They got it wrong when Bush was in office and they're repeating their mistakes with Trump. They better hope their stupidity doesn't come back to ruin them this time around, esp when they learn the ppl they support (Obama, Clinton) r pure evil and they were deceived into white knighting for them.
🎶👍 Love the reaction. you can tell you was a bit shock on their sound. But they crab you in. The first time I listing to them was in 2005 taking my son to school. He put SOAD in the cd playing. The first song I heard was Hypnotize, I was thrown back. But I got into to it. I said to my son who is that. He told me SOAD. He ask did you like it. I Said I never heard of SOAD, it nothing I ever heard before but its good. So my son introduce me to SOAD. So I went down that rabbit hole with my son and listen to more of their Discography. Thanks this was great for me. Road to 10k subs. 🍯🍋🧊🍵
I always thought when he was talking about angels dying, Serj was referring to when someone who is beloved by the masses reveals their true nature and deserved to be killed for their actions.
Before System of a Down, there was Scars on Broadway. I can't remember the name of the lead singer, but he's Serj's right hand. Yet, he's the one that brought System together. Check them out.

Blink 182 has some bangin songs with some great drums
Deann Dragoun bennett Agreed! We don’t need nor want people like that here. We are a family ❤️✊
Deann Dragoun bennett Absolutely agreed! If I see shit like that, I’ll do the same thing as you did. We all stick together here regardless of who and where we’re from. ❤️
Deann Dragoun bennett Mutual girl! 😘😘😘
Its 2 singers in this band. The lead vocalist and the guitarist. Their harmonies are unique and legendary.
it’s too bad they don’t agree with a lot of things
@@st1nkytree Tru
@Alvaro Aguilar Honestly overall they're not that great live from everything I've heard.
Shavo sings some of the songs
@Alvaro Aguilar daron produced all the albums with rick Ruben and wrote most of the songs. Daron is system
For a guy who dosn't listen to a ton of rock giving the "scream" credit from a musical stand point. 10 points to you.
Serj Tankian is one of those singer you either love or you hate, I think he is one of greatest front men ever.

System of a Down is a very political band. Everyone of their songs has a very deep meaning. They are a very unique Armenian band. Amazing musicians!!
Reds Fan I’m not really sure how that’s a response to anything that was just said
@Reds Fan fuckin simp
political is for example bad religion, the clash or calle 13, but sod not really...
@@seelenwinter6662 oh jeez I sure do hope you don't ever listen to SOAD"S "sugar","toxicity",or "BYOB"

I cry when angels deserve to die (innocent victims).. Father why have you forsaken me (Jesus quote from the bible). Pretty deep, right?
yep its a messed up message once you think about what they say. glad Im not the only one who got it.
