We retired and live in Porto.
Best decision of our lives! 🇵🇹
We thought it would be Lisbon until we got to Porto.... So beautiful!
So glad to hear this 😃
I'm in Porto right now and I have to say that this is the best video on UA-cam about this lovely city. The pork sandwich at Casa Guedes is to die for.
Thanks for this great video.
Really appreciate the support. I would do just about anything for one of those sandwiches right now haha
Btw old the big iron bridge that links Porto to Gaia was actually designed by Gustave Eiffel, the creator of the Eiffel tower in France.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing
Hello Camden, the building were is situated McDonalds Aliados was an iconic café called Imperial. The architectural style is Art Déco. The café was inaugurated in 1936. Wen I studied at Porto University, in 1980-1985, I used to go to Imperial to drink coffee. Those days, the coffee was not expresso! Thank you for your kind review of Porto.
Love the back story! Thanks for your support and sharing this :)
We just got back from Portugal for a 2-weeks sisters trip.
We spent 4 nights in Porto, 6 nights in Lisbon, 3 nights and Evora.
I totally agreed with you about spending more rather spent more time in Porto. I love this place. The hilly walking (we didn’t not spend a dollar on public transportation as we were just spending time with historical area.
Loved the foods. People… extremely friendly and honest.
Don’t forget to eat some roasted chestnut.
The book store: we spent €15/person ticket and got a book. Read it during my flight back to the US. I would love to come back to Porto again in the future.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share all this! So glad to hear you had a great time :)
I absolutely love Portugal. I've stayed in Lisbon, Porto and Braga. I really fell in love with Braga.
Such a beautiful country. I haven't spent any time in Braga but am looking forward to visiting during my next trip. Any recommendations?
I fell in love with Braga too. I could live there no problem.
Camden, it was a pleasure meeting you in Nice, France. Good luck to you and keep grinding. We love your videos and are now subscribed.
Great meeting you both! Thanks sharing your experiences and letting me crash your party. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip and made it back home 😄 Looking forward to meeting up in the future!
Really packed a lot of great tips into this video! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
15:10 port wine is designed as an aperitif for after the meal, thats why you dont need to drink a whole bottle with a meal.
My husband and I just found your channel last night. This review is spot on. Porto was by far one of our favorite spots in Portugal as well. Can’t wait to go back. We’ll have to hit up some of your recommended restaurants next time!
Thanks for the support! Welcome to the channel :)
your videos are absolute gems on internet. I admire your honesty. I think that makes your videos more interesting. Thank you.
Really appreciate the kind words and support :)

Great video going there in July, love from Canada
Hope you have a great time! Much love :)
This is a fantastic list!
Thanks for the support!
@@camdendavidNo problem. I am travelling tomorrow. Is it much more relaxed this time of the year?
@@samlyons2876 I'd say so. Hope you have a great trip!
I like your vibe and respect for a local authentic visit. As a non meat eater I missed your fish delicacies.
I appreciate the support. Soooo much wonderful seafood throughout the country. I'll definitely spend more time exploring and showing the fish delicacies during my next visit :)
Whilst I am biased because I am from Lisbon, I love Porto and I go there as often as I can. It it a 3hish voyage from Lisbon by train. However, having seen the video about Lisbon, I feel that a lot of the best in Lisbon was not talked about. Pastéis de Nata are traditional and were invented in Lisbon, not in Porto, and the best ones are the traditional ones, from Lisbon. Also, pastéis de Belém (only sold at the original shop in Belém, again, in Lisbon) do not have the same recipe as all the other shops which sell pastéis de nata, although they look the same. The whole area of Belém was not mentioned! It has one of the most important monastaries in Portugal and in the history of Europe, it has the most important fort in Lisbon, and some of the best cultural part of Lisbon is also located there. It has also some of the most traditional and typical streets in Lisbon and houses a congress center... Mouraria was also not mentioned, the casas de fado were not mentioned, the south bank of the river Tagus was not mentioned, Ericeira (which is further away but talking about transportation it is more or less the same time from Lisbon) was not mentioned... and this is only, as someone from Lisbon, what I can pull off by quick thinking...
Thanks for taking the time to share all all this! You're so right -- I left out tons of stuff. Just goes to show how much the cities and the entire country has to offer :) Thanks again!
@@camdendavid Lisbon and Porto are two completely different cities. Porto is more pituresc (probably because it wasn't destroyed by the 1755 earthquake) and Lisbon is more "cosmopolitan". The baixa was completely rebuilt after the earthquake by the most modern architects of the time. Its layout was studied at schools and probably is studied in architect schools... avenida da liberdade is the equivalent to Paris's champs elysees. Built with same purpose. Ponte 25 de Abril was modeled after the san Francisco bridge. Quartel do Carmo, two steps from Chiado, was where one of the few (almost) bloodless revolutions of the world took place, which destryed the dictatorship that rulled Portugal for 40 years. In Porto, torre dos clérigos was left out. S Luís bridge was built by the same guy that built the Eiffel tower... for me these, as a portuguese, these aspects are crucial when talking about the cities and most are in book tourist guides. I liked your videos. I simply think that too much and too important things were left out...
im going to porto in march for my birthday im expecting rain but i dont care i will have a lovely time
Love the attitude and hoping you have a wonderful trip! And happy early birthday :)
Me and my friend are also going to Porto this march for their birthday 👍🏻😊
@@germangieleonettafan4521 Have a great time!!!
That’s the spirit!
you're so right! one time i was in alanya, and it was raining, (i come from the netherlands, so im used to rain) i loved the empty streets while everybody was running for shelter lol
Always fun to see opportunities created by what most would consider to be inconveniences! Hope all is well in the Netherlands -- I'm looking forward to spending time there this summer :)
My girlfriend and I just found your vids on Lisbon and Porto… just in time. We have a trip planned for both in a week. 5 days in Lisbon, 4 Porto. But we may head to Porto a few days earlier now.
Great job: succinct, packed with info. Two - well, four! - thumbs up.
Thanks for the support! Hope you have a great trip and feel free to reach out if any questions pop up :)
Another very good video! We lived in Lisbon for 1.5 years before moving to Braga in November 2023. We spent a week in Porto on vacation a couple of years ago, and now are less than an hour by train from Porto. Now that we're done with moving, and the weather is improving, we hope to make more regular visits to Porto, because it is a stunning city in so many ways.
The time of year you visit will have a big impact. Looks like you were there in (I'm guessing) December? During the warmer months, Porto really shines. I would get a metro/public transport pass, and use it, especially when the weather is nice. Easy to get to the beach, and there's some great beach bars an easy bus ride from city center. Matosinhos has some great sea food places, and is worth some time, too.
For us, we absolutely LOVED our time in Lisbon. The more I got to know that city, the more I liked it (apart from housing prices). And I think that applies to either city; the first couple of days you need time to adjust and learn your way around a bit. But, the more you settle in, the better it gets. I think people who start in Lisbon and finish in Porto may wind up liking Porto more because they are more comfortable being in Portugal, and might have some more confidence to try more things. I think both cities are fantastic, and two of my 3 favorite cities of all time (shout out to Glasgow Scotland!). All 3 have a lot in common. All are a bit "gritty" with some rough edges, but massively fun and interesting, great people, and only get better the more you get to know each city. I can't wait to spend more time in Porto now :)
Thanks for taking the time to share this! You were close (I was there in January) -- Interesting observation about folks enjoying Porto more after getting acquainted with Portugal. I can definitely see that being true. And would agree on both cities having TONS to offer. Can't wait to visit Braga and Glasgow! Thanks again :)
Hi Camden ive been to Lisbon once and Porto 13 times. I love it. lm going back in June for two weeks and again in September for 12 days. Tge people are so friendly .Its beautiful and romantic like you say. I walk everywhere. In Lisbon i had to get the metro everywhere.
So happy you're getting to spend more time there! Such a cool city and I hope you enjoy :)
Camden, Thanks so much for your tips on Porto. By any chance do have a video on visiting the Douro valley? Will be in Porto/Douro at the end of this month and would love your insider tips!
Glad you found the video to be helpful! I don't have a video on the Douro Valley but hope to make one in the future (sorry about that). Hope you have a wonderful time :)
Thank you!!
1:35 very well, good shot my dear friend ;)
Love Porto a lot more than Lisbon myself, such a beautiful city ❤
Those Gazela sausages!!!🤤
Watched your video whilst in lisbon having been there for 4 days felt I'd seen enough. So decided to head to Porto day after only regret was didn't have enough time there only 6hrs totally agree with you would spend more time in Porto next time 😊
Glad to hear you got to spend some time up there! Hope you had a great trip :)
Seems an interesting city and worth visiting for those who loves a walkable city like Prague, Amsterdam.
The choice between it and Lisbon reminded me of Brussels and Ghent. 3 out of my 4 short visits to Belgium I have had my stay in Ghent. Although a reason for that due to the 34-min train ride between both.
You’re spot on with both points. Although it does take quite a bit longer to get to between Porto and Lisbon via train. But an easy trip! Thanks for sharing 😃
I'll be spending 4 days in Lisbon and then 4 days in Porto. September/October. Can't wait.
Hope you have a great time!
I also noticed you didn’t mention FRANCESINHA! You could go to Porto and just do a tour for the best. I was there last summer and went to the Fountainhas Cafe, which is off the beaten tourist path, but close enough to the Ribiera to walk. It’s where the locals go. I really enjoy your videos!
You're sooooo right! Thanks for the suggestion and support :)
Bolt is actually based in Estonia. But I guess calling it a local version of uber is a compliment? Thanks for the vid.
You're 100% correct haha. For some reason I always say "local" when using Bolt in Europe. It helps the folks from the US understand haha. Thanks for the support!
Finally watched the entire video and took notes (while in Korea before heading to Porto) Taking the advice and actually gonna skip Lisbon all Together this time (been there before briefly but dont wanna have Porto FOMO)
I hope you have a great time in Porto. Let me know if any questions pop up!
2:44 bolt is definitely the better choice.
Used Bolt in Budapest Hungary and it is brilliant
Glad to hear it :)
I definitely preferred Porto over Lisbon. Both are very nice but Porto is cleaner and cheaper.
I would agree with you
Hey man try "A Cave Do Bon Vivant", it's a French wine bar/restaurant, one of my friend work there it's really great. If u see a guy named Victor tell him that Vincent recommend it to you, it will be a fun moment I think.
Thanks for the tip! I'll check it out the next time I'm in town
I agree, Porto is much prettier with the azulejos .
Absolutely
The buiding you are talking about was not built for McDonalds, it was one historical and iconic cofee shop (cafe imperial) that unfortunatelly was sold to McDonalds... It's quite sad...
Damn... that is very sad. Appreciate you sharing this
Oooooo. I’d take up drinking coffee for that view
Couldn't agree more
Planning to visit this First Week of May.
How many days should I need to have a spectacular experience? Travel solo here.
I think you could have a great experience with as little as 2-3 days but could probably stretch it to a week (or more). It really depends what type of experience you're looking for and how many day trips you're wanting to take. But I hope you have a great time :)
Planning going to Porto this summer.Any recommendations the best hotel in Porto?
I stayed at Se Catedral Hotel Porto, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. It was kinda funky but had great location. They had really cheap rate when I was visiting but I imagine the raise their rates in the summer. I know there are plenty of "luxury" hotels around if that's what you're looking for. If anyone else has any thought, feel free to chime in!
As a local I must say that although I liked the video e feel like you missed some musts of Porto. I can’t believe that you don’t mention the “Francesinha”it’s on par with “Tripas” the city’s most famous dish. Also, except for the “Conga” and “casa Guedes” most of the places (eat and drink) you recommend, I never heard about
Not trying the Francesinha was my biggest regret! I had eaten soooo much great food and couldn't bring myself to eat a dish as big as the francesinha... what a mistake! I didn't end up mentioning it in the video because I never want to mislead or misinform folks about something I didn't have an experience with. But it's the #1 thing on my list for my next visit! Would love for you to try out some of those other places and let me know what you think :)
I def wish I would have spent more time in Porto, and less time in Lisbon when I went!
Hope you had a great time though!
@@camdendavid Absolutely! Guess I'll just have to go back and do all the things I missed!
Very good! But I am surprised that you left out the “signature dish” of Porto; Francesinha
Want to hear the worst part?!? I didn't actually get to try the Francesinha... terrible mistake haha. But now I have an extra reason to plan my next visit!
I find it amusing how he warns the audience of touristy places when the audience is comprised of prospective tourists.
Hahah this is totally fair. I'm hoping this community likes to see things a bit different compared to your average tourist :)
@@camdendavid I know what you meant. I kind of said it in jest.
I agree with you about Porto. It is better than Lisboa.😊
Porto is the best of season
Great video. Like smoke tweeds I see. New subscriber here.
Appreciate the support haha. Welcome :)
Porto ❤
This is such a great and informative video. Unfortunately, I have to say, the sound effects from scene, to scene is very distracting and unpleasant. And it takes away from the quality of the video. My opinion. But I do appreciate the video thanks, going in June.
Really appreciate the feedback! I'll do my best to limit those a bit moving forward. Thanks for the support and have a great trip :)
im from porto
Have you been to Holy Sandwich? If so, what would you say about it?
I have not. Sorry to disappoint haha
@@camdendavid NP. I was asking because I wanted to see if someone with a lot more experience dining in Porto agreed with me. I've only been to Porto once, last year for a about a week. I loved the burger and french fries at Holy Sandwich and am definitely going back on my next trip which is in about 3 weeks.
@@onepaireofshoes7387 Ah, makes sense. Hope you have a great time :)
This houses do you see with old windows , this houses has 600 or more years old not surprised.
you forgot to eat the best dish in Porto, the "Francesinha".
I'll make sure to highlight it next time. That is one heavy dish haha
5:00 What, like ~20% ABV or something, no? 😄
Yeah 20% is pretty high, no?
I just got back. I wish I had known that the suburbs of Lisbon are a dystopian hellscape, every inch smeared with graffiti. Not what I was expecting.
Sorry to hear Lisbon didn't meet your expectations. Hope you had a great time though!
That's what happens when socialism takes over your motherland. :(
@@colbyjackprodyou don't sound Portuguese, nor knowledgeable 😇
@benbelaboehm Ok irmão 😂 🇵🇹
Do you prefer Lisbon or Porto?
Felt like when he said he'd prefer 25 days in porto and a few in Lisbon that was a pretty clear answer :P

@@KerryJones12 Hahah 100% for me. But what about you?
I recently spent time in Porto and Lisbon during the holidays. I feel like Porto's Christmas decorations were much more interesting than Lisbon hands down. I shall 😊 return soon!
Lisboa all the way! We live just north of Lisbon and just visited Porto...Too small, too many people and too much construction ! Food was great, but never would I live there!! Great visit, but I was always looking over my shoulder...Not at all comfortable...Druggies everywhere and just didn't feel right at all!
Nao faz falta, acredite.Completamente despropositado o sei comentário...Se vive numa localidade a norte de Lx como pode dizer que o Porto é demasiado pequeno.Pelos vistos vive num sitio ainda menor..Enfim..Fique onde está.
100% Porto!!!!!
Portugal is a very old country with very old cities. While this may explain why some parts of its cities can seem a bit gritty it's quite understandable. Portugal is also a relatively poor country. I'm certain that, in time, as tourism continues to flourish even that which appears old and threadbare will disappear. Then we'll be longing for the charm and nostalgic look of the old and unkempt.
I have been to poor countries! Most countries on planet Earth are poor.
We Portuguese are so lucky to have the country we have. The average person owns their home, we have food and a good standard of living. We do not need to worry where our next meal will come from. If we lose our job, we have a social benefit system to help us. Plus there are plenty of charities across the country which provide a lot of support! If poverty is not being able to afford luxuries, that's not poverty in my eyes! We should be grateful for all our blessings!
@@anna3046 I believe you have misinterpreted my comment. Some of us are satisfied with things as they are. there's nothing wrong with that. Then, there are others who have accepted what is, as it is, but dream of how much better things could be with even the most obvious of improvements.
The comment I made has nothing to do with Portugal's social services, but everything to do with the appearance of Portugal's greatest assets...the beauty, respect for, and preservation of the rich architectural heritage we've inherited from our ancestors.
What really annoys me is how the local populations don’t force local councils to stop graffiti in their cities. It looks rough! We could put good legislation in place to restore historical buildings too!
0:01 nobody ever says Lisbon is better than Porto
True I know more people that go to Lisbon than Porto but when they went to both people 8/10 prefer Porto
Can someone tell me the best neighborhood to stay in Porto please. Visiting in November
Any locals have recommendations here?
Hordes of tourists in the streets of Lisbon, Porto, Sintra, etc, is an absurd phenomenon and it makes no sense!!!
How so?
No hagan mucho caso q a mí pagaron 1€ para darle lay
Lay what down haha?
Cleaner than Lisbon?? 😂😂😂
Seemed so to me :)
Francesinha!
Next time!
"I wish I knew", just don t get it.... So much info on the internet, also google maps ec. even off-line. Maybe just talk to some guys living here? Porto should not be that much of a problem, I guess. Still, welcome and enjoy!
Just being a resource for those who prefer to get info in video format :) Appreciate the warm welcome!
For living I prefer north, not Porto, but Braga or Aveiro. Lisboa is still better for tourism and rest
Looking forward to spending some time in Braga and Aveiro during my next visit. Thanks for sharing!
Lisbon>>>>>Porto
What do you enjoy more in Lisbon?
@@camdendavid the people and the vibe. The Porto people seem to be very introvert and not open minded:/
@@cesareborgia8312it’s precisely the opposite lisbon people are a slightly less annoying version of Parisians
Gritty, fall’n apart… sounds like the USA to me…
You're not wrong
You definitely have not been to Portugal. You CAN'T EVEN compare it to the USA.
Great tips. But please stop mispronouncing it. There is a “t” in Por-To
Thanks! I'll work on that :)
@@camdendavid haha sorry. I was on the subway watching you and enjoying the tips but cringing at the sound of" por-0" haha. GOing there in a month and was telling my crew to do the 90-10 rule and stay in Porto most of the time per your advice.
I tried finding a non-t pronunciation...didn't hear one.
