    • @otszzz79
      @otszzz79 Рік тому

True. And if you look around on yt. These teardown reviews really different. He is comllaining bout charging time, others praising it, cos its increasing the cycle life of the batteries compared to fastcharging. Another guy is ising 200 watts solarpanel when there is less sun, and this one and others claim it not possible. I ordered one yesterday here in the philippines for 230 euro converted included delivery. I know there more fancy and more expensive ones and other options out there. Butnfor my purpose its good enough. Just to run a fan, modem, laptop, and stuf during the short brownouts we suffer here during the year, specially during rainy season, typhoons. Living im a rental home, so installing solar on the roof or mess with the electrical works is not accepted, which i fully understand. For my littoe overnight outings it will do well too, can charge my action/dashcam batts without using my motorcycle batt. Can charge the phones and heat some water for coffee in the morning on remote places. Also cant bring the portable panels on the motorcycle. Will calculate if it worth to make a solar rack which i can put out easily to charge and safely store inside. You should have seen all the cheaper solar panels here after typhoon. People here really fall for the 0 electric bill hoax with products with short lifespan. They dont calculate the investment. As soon they install some or bought some they say. I got free power, but they didnt make roi yet. For my other appliances i will use gasoline gen if brownouts increase.

Never found lack of 12v voltage regulator to be a problem. Most devices I have tested expect to be run off lead acid batteries and have built in voltage regulators. Most will accept 10v to 18v without an issue. Devices using motors do benefit from being run at 15v, but then a regulated 12v output won't help with that

This is an interesting post. Will is normally a Jackery disliker and I am surprised he recommended a Jackery 500, but glad that he did. I have a Jackery 500 and find it to be my most useful portable power unit. I use it for day trips to the beach or just a day outdoors. The 500 watt hours translates to plenty of DC for my phone, speaker, and BougeRV 23L refrigerator. For just working out doors in powers my AC yard tools with out stringing long power cords. I use it for my hedge trimmers, leaf blower and my edger. In one recent power outage I used it to power my house refrigerator, although the power was only out for a few hours, it did a wonderful job. I own two Jackerys both are over a year old and have been flawless.

  •  2 роки тому +1

Regulated isn't always better. The problem is that the regulators in power packs like that are often noisy, making them an unsuitable power source for radios. For that application, the best solution is a power pack that uses 4xLiFePo4 and an output that comes directly from the battery; that way no extra noise is added, and the output voltage will be 12.8V for most of the discharge curve.
The voltage of 11.6V that you saw from the DC power jacks suggests that it's 3x some standard LiIon chemistry. That voltage will quickly drop to 10.8V or 11.1V as the battery discharges, making it unsuitable for 12V appliances (and many radios) as you noted.

Powering my BougeRV CR45 48 qt. portable fridge it can power via the AC or the DC ports on this unit. Would either connection method draw the same power/drain the Bluetti? Started it up a couple hours ago via the cigarette lighter DC port and it showed a 45w draw when the compressor is running.

I actually have this unit and I'm happy with it because I got it during a sale on Amazon, but I agree they could do so much better.
Maybe an actual percentage instead of just the same lame five segment battery icon?
    Maybe a 500W inverter?
More than 120W of solar input?
    60W USB C PD charging?
The only big thing I think you missed when comparing this thing to the jackery is the rated cell life. Maxoak states that these are automotive grade cells rated for 1000 cycles to 80%, while jackery's are only rated for 500 cycles to 80% so that is a big difference.
Still, as always, greatly appreciated the unbiased, no-nonsense, zero bullshit review!

Hey Will, thanks for the info on these types of products! Can you make a segment (or suggestion) on small, portable solar systems that can handle high temp, desert conditions for camping? (ex: Lake Powell, tent camping in June-Aug with high temps of 110 F)? Powering up shouldn't be hard with all the direct sun, but it will be hard to keep it cool and I don't want to damage a battery (think - no shade). Thanks - NicK

I need an honest opinion, as I want a lightweight portable power station for keeping a laptop battery charged for an extended period, maybe as much as 5-6 charges of laptop battery as I will be working remotely (No access to mains electricity) for a full day. I am in the UK, so will be looking at AC 220-240v, which is the UK standard voltage.
This will be a chunk of money for me, so a one shot deal, I need to get right first time.
    My choices are the following.
    (1) Bluetti AC50S
    (2) Jackery (UK) Explorer 500
Which would be the better unit for working remotely to recharge laptop battery, while the laptop is running. ?

I love your videos disregarding I probably understand 5 % of what you are talking about!. Haha. Anyways for someone like me I would love to hear from you regarding more specific situational applications. Ie I want to cover a situation in my house to cover power loss for 3 days and keep my refrigerator, basic lights , fish tank going. I loved your basic solar contraption building but I guess I am thinking more situational systems. Thank you. You are so smart@

I purchased this before discovering your videos. I have only noticed some items show no draw when charging as another poster mentioned. However, I did connect the unit to a Rich Solar 200w Vmp 18.6v panel and it charged without issue. So is that the onboard mppt doing some magic or did I just get lucky? When I check the manual it says does E18 PC input over voltage protection condition > 45v, recovery condition

Hi Will, greetings from Germany and big thanks for your videos! A friend of mine just recommended your channel today. I'm really looking forward for your DIY unit. My AC50S is running fine for my purpose (power grid blackout reserve to power my lights, laptop and radio station) but I agree that these units do have alternating issues. While mine doesn't have the capacity issues of your unit, the output watt meters are behaving strange while the loading input watt meter just runs fine. Example: If I plug in an E27 LED "bulb" rated with 7 W, the display shows 0 W output. If I plug in my 100 W medical infrared lamp, it shows 100 W aaaand when I then plug in the 7 W bulb in addition, it shows 107 W which includes the exact amount of 7 W from the bulb. I have no idea if it has to do with switching power supplies or some construction anomaly on the watt meter itself.
Honestly, I could have built a DIY unit myself as well but since this would need some weeks for me and the power grids here are on the brink of blackout, I still consider it a good solution. However, I really like to see and build your new design since you seem to have a lot of knowledge and practice. Keep up the good work! :)

Could it be huge inverter losses from an inefficient pure sine inverter? (If others are getting 400Wh from the DC side) maybe put a clamp dc meter where the dc inverter input is and see how much dc current is it pulling into the inverter while your heat gun is running?

Hi, Good evening from here.i bought a new AC50 last year, I have been using it for close to nine months now,the battery is no longer lasting long as usual.the battery has started having problem, the battery mostly shut down from 40 percent charge level, and start charging From 40 percent when a charger is plug in.the battery now unsually charge faster and goes off faster as well.the battery may jump From 40 percent charge level to 80 percent in less than 2hours,unlike before.then From 80 percent charge, the charging speed I'll reduced to just 1 watts, and this low charging speed May last for days or even week.pls what could be the fault, and what is the solution.this happen both on solar and on electric power.

I just sent my Jackery 500 back after having it for less than two years and using it only 3 times. The cheap switches to turn on the USB ports failed (made in China) after pressing the button 3 times in 1 year in a half. Come to my surprise the flashlight on the left side stopped working also. After COVID up until now, they no longer talk with you on the phone and that was a nightmare doing a return and getting the credit back. So hey Will you may be a Jackery lover but there junk and only offer a 30-day warranty nowadays. By the way, this Bluetti has great ratings from almost everyone but you and Cnet even called it a best buy mid-sized Generator.

  • @StrikeSideway

Ran a Dell workstation with dual 4k monitors pulling about 225W for almost 2 hours thru the inverter. After the Bluetti shut down (~425Wh), I turned it back on, turned on DC and was able to charge my phone and run a fan thru the USB ports pulling about 15W for over an hour. I shut it down after the phone was done so don't know exactly how much further it would have gone but 450W total (~90%) seems like a pretty good estimate. My only real complaint besides the 20% bars is that I wish it would give some kind of audible warning a few minutes before it shutdown.

The AC50S 500Ah is calculated using the unregulated 11.1v sockets. 45Ah*11.1=499.5Wh. The capacity gets lower using the regulated DC and even lower using the inverter.

I'm using the ecoflow r600 and I have a 200 watt portable 8lb foldable solar panel. So far I have had readings up to 176 watts input from the panels in winter. I do enjoy a 3 hour charge time with the modular battery attached. Just a little under 600 watt hours. The rumor is that they might update the firmware so that you can do AC & solar, meaning that it can charge 576 watt hours in 75 minutes. Not sure if that can be done, but they do crush the competition with fast recharging right now.

    • @jimt1226

I also use R600max it has 576wh with expansion battery. Fast charging options, regulated 12v output. Also powers coffee maker or 900w microwave. It lowers the voltage to produce the amps/watts.

    • @apocsurvival916

@@jimt1226 Correct, it brings down the 110vac to about 90 when I plug anything in at 1200 watt. I think Will is spot on when it comes to this unit. It's not meant for everyday use, it's portability and smaller battery lean towards the weekend warrior or someone car camping every once in awhile. I honestly don't think "free energy" will exist in our lifetime. Can you imagine what would happen to you if you ever did find perpetual motion.
