Can’t believe the first one came out 20 years ago .
What a snooze this was. Thanks for doing the collab
Thank YOU Rachel!
I see why the director really wanted Owen Wilson in his film project. In 1999 he was in another haunted house movie called "The Haunting" with Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
I did not go into this movie expecting The Conjuring. I went into this film expecting a fun popcorn movie. To me, that’s what this was. I liked the special effects. The ghosts weren’t scary, to me, because I’m a 40 year old man. But this is Disney, so it may have been scary for young kids who see it, and that is probably what it was meant for. It was nice to see Jamie Lee Curtis play a different character than Laurie Strode. I really have no complaints about it. It was a short little popcorn movie.
Glad you enjoyed it Richard!
Short! I wish it was short
i could tell this was hot relish just by the trailer, ugh! When i was a kid, i had a book with a record based on the Haunted Mansion, that had a story that introduced all the ghost characters on one side, and a whole side of spooky Halloween sounds that to this day is the scariest thing I ever heard lol! They need to remake Something Wicked This Way Comes, that I'd watch! Thanks for the honest review Lee!!! cheers
Don’t forget they also did Watcher in the Woods at the start of the 80’s
Love your honesty, Lee. Keep it real, bro ... 🤘
Always!
Best part of this review: that Crow tee. Solid. I still remember getting that soundtrack at Sam Goody. 🤘🏻
My all-time favorite soundtrack.
I have an interesting fact that kind of ties in with Eddie Murphy's role in the 2003 movie. In Delirious, Eddie Murphy talks about how black people would never be seen in a haunted house movie because they would leave if anything supernatural occurs. That is one of his stand up routines.
Yes. I know Delirious back to front. Used to listen to it constantly.
My girlfriend is a huge fan of haunted mansions. I had no expectations. I thought It would be horrible. At best, 2/5. Saw it last night. I give it 4/5. I can't believe how much I liked it.
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it.
That Owen Wilson impression was money!
Haha ugh!
This movie just felt so much like a movie to a fault. Most formulaic thing I've watched in awhile and it just made it impossible for me to stay invested. I'm sure it's technically good, but ugh
I'm usually in agreement with you on most takes DD. I respect your opinion on this movie, but I actually had fun with this one. Which is interesting considering that I passed on the OG Haunted Mansion movie with Eddie Murphy initially. I only watched that one just recently and ended up liking it too! In fact, the old movie is what got me interested in seeing this new version! I must be getting soft in my old age (1974 baby) because these wholesome family movies are really starting to grow on me & that's what this movie is_ It's a nice, good family movie! 7.75/10 for me!😎
Awesome! So glad you enjoyed it!
Darn, was curious about this cause sometimes these types of movies end up as total gems (OG Hocus Pocus, Tower Of Terror). Will wait to stream it in the Fall.
I am so green. Had to watch to see if hot relish was a good thing or bad thing 😂
😂😂
Got a Haunted Mansion commercial for this vid🤣. I still want to see it though
Haha nice! Enjoy!!
When I saw the trailer, I figured it was just a bunch of mashed scenes from the ride put together for a movie, I know now I was right !!! Such puke !!!
Yeah it's horrible.
Your review is spot on. Brother...
Haunted Mansion was an okay movie & I give it a 6/10.
As a kid, I somehow always ended up with the fat ghost in my cart on the ride every time I went to Disney World.
Owen Wilson impersonation wasn't half bad.
Sorry you didn’t like it Lee . I really had a good time . I was surprised it wasn’t released in October.
Glad you enjoyed it Rick!
This remake does have the improvement of focusing on ghosts haunting a mansion, great special effects, and protagonists that can’t easily exit a haunted mansion.
However it’s still a stinker because Disney again made a weak sauce horror comedy Haunted house movie instead of a serious Haunted House movie similar to the remake House on Haunted Hill, Poltergeist, etc.
Ever played Megadrive or Snes? Castlevania came to my mind. Such a perfect material for even PG adventure vampire movie. Even music in game is incredible but as a serious vampire trilogy would be diamond. Only if made 100% based on the game.
There are some wrestlers who depending on who you have them work with can either put on a great match, or stink up the place. Owen Wilson is to acting what they are to wrestling IMO. So, still sticking with if you want to watch a movie based off a Disney Ride, stick with Pirates of the Caribbean, huh? Good to know. And you do bring up a good point. Was a time, Disney took chances with bringing out new stuff, then there was the period of direct to video sequels of their popular movies, now it is live action or just all around reboots of previous stuff, like this for example. Feels like the days of creating new stuff from Disney is long gone. Anyways, thank you, Lee.
The only way a Haunted Mansion movie will work is if Disney goes for a hard core R-rating. I mean, the ride has suicide, murder, etc. There's no way to do that in a "family friendly" way.
Thanks For Your Honest Review
Mr. Lee
I Did See The Original Haunted Mansion
With Eddie Murphy & I Didn’t Like That
So I Have Low Expectations For This New Movie
Disney is aiming to make a new Tower of Terror movie with Taika Waiti directing. It worries me because I know his style of Comedy, at least with his run in Marvel is loud and obnoxious.
At the very least since the original ride is a Twilight zone homage story line, I hope Disney and Taika Attempt to make it scary.
Ugh.
lee would love it if you rewiewed all the pirates movie !!!
It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since the original movie came out and I was 8 years old when the original one came out and I will check this movie out when it comes out on 4k who knows I might even enjoy it but we shall see though
I personally loved this movie. I’m a diehard fan of the ride and the movie delivered everything I was looking for (although I do wish that some of the ghosts got a bit more screen time). Overall, I get some of the criticisms, but I personally don’t really go into a movie for the writing and story. I’m mainly just looking to be entertained, and this movie delivered that in spades for me. But I do appreciate that you’re honest in your review, and don’t blow this movie out of proportion as an abomination to mankind like some review I’ve seen have done.
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it.
OH LORD
This is not a movie I was hyped about or really trying to see. I was going to just see it just because it looked fun and the cast is incredible. But thanks for your honest blunt opinion Lee. Most of the time we agree more than disagree. I have no desire to see it now lol
I remembering really liking the original movie with Eddie Murphy
I still haven't seen it.
I tottaly loved this movie.
Sometimes i question if other people are way more critical about a movie than i am or am i not critical enough?
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it.
I really wanted this to be good. I loved the ride :)
EVERYTHING Disney is horrifying lately
So instead of a film, should this have been a TV series with each episode focusing on characters from the ride?
Also if you like horror could you review Disney’s other films in that genre like The Watcher in the Woods, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and Tower of Terror (yes there was a TV movie based on that ride)?
Also would you say this is better or worse than the Eddie Murphy one?
Agreed. All the ghost characters were wasted.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews whoa now I do have plans to watch the film. Didn’t say I was not going to. I’m just trying to figure out how to make a faithful adaption of something.
I have another word I would like to introduce: retry. Reboot to me means something that was successful and well liked with continuations (some good and some bad, or maybe all good) getting a restart. Remake means to me something that follows almost all the exact same things as the original. Retry means starting over a failed 1st attempt. Dune 2021 is an example
I just tell people to go to Disney and ride the ride, leave both movies in the garbage.
Yep.
I just saw it. I thought it was a convoluted, overproduced mess. Just...trying so hard to mine a cohesive story. SO much expositional dialogue, and so many of the recognizable mansion characters ruined. The ghost effects were all CGI crap we've seen a million times. No mystery, no fun. And those poor actors had to speak the forced dialogue of this hokey script. Leto's performance was so vocally & visually manipulated that it might as well have not even been him. I loathed this film.
Exactly!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews I....had a few things to say about it 🤣
Disneys past success was storytelling and all the bs was subtle. Its amazing how original stories become the hits. Pirates had some comedy gold with Depp.
Agreed.
I enjoyed your review on this and I can understand your points. This movie definitely isn't for everyone. I absolutely love the ride and was nervous on what Disney would do with this. I did enjoy it but I agree it does have some issues. I really would have loved to see more of the ghosts and learn more about them than the human characters. The dialogue was a little meh as well. They did capture a lot of the Haunted Mansion and seeing it all on the big screen was enjoyable for me. Maybe this could have benefited more as a mini series or show or something instead of cramming everything into a two hour movie.
Glad you found some enjoyment in it Jen!
It doesn’t have bad reviews from the audience in rotten tomatoes.. this is just your opinion honestly 🙃
And I’m totally cool with that.
I expected this but I will watch just for Jamie Lee anything she's in I know she's good. But I didn't expect this to be any good at all
I didn't even recognize her at first.
I Am Afraid I Am At A Loss I Have Never Seen Or Was Interested In Seeing The Original Haunted Mansion Starring Eddie Murphy. Seems Like Watching This Movie The New Haunted Mansion Would Be A Lost Cause.
Went to see this movie today and lee is right it was a rehash and very generic and paint by numbers by Disney standards but the experience I had in my screening was very interesting got there was only about 10 of us and the theatre accidentally put the barbie film classification on the screen instead of this film in some ways I would have rather watched that
Yep. Generic is the word.
I deadass just got my ticket so I can catch some zzz’s I woke up like 40 minutes into the movie n just walked out lol
Hahaha
I like the remake of frankenweenie
The Lion King(1994) is a masterpiece and the remake is pointless and unnecessary
Megadrive game was also Masterpiece and one of the most difficult platform games ever made.
Talk to me is the horror movie of the year so far that shit made ppl cringe like crazy and I'm like oh yea this is my kinda disturbing horror
Talk to Me was amazing.
From all the criticism I've seen of the film, it sounds like it is a horror movie for kids.
It’s definitely kid friendly.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews it looks like it from the production. At least the movie succeeds on that front.
I’m instead checking out Oppenheimer instead of Barbie or this version of Haunted Mansion
Why did you see Hunted Mansion instead of Oppenheimer, and Barbie? Which I went to see Barbieheimer.
It was a press screening. I didn’t get one for Barbie in my town. And I had to miss the Oppenheimer one.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews damn guess you have to wait for them for streaming or get a physical blue-rey copy when they released.
I had no intention of seeing this. But thanks for confirming what i already expected. The original was fun and it still holds up. No need for another
Other reviewers have really enjoyed it. Go and see it and make your own mind up.
Yes don’t take my word for it if others seem to be liking it. You might enjoy it.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews thank you. I appreciate you being open minded to my comment. I love your channel but as you state, yourea due hard horror fan, so a Disney spooky production clearly aimed at the kid in many of us or children may not be your cup of tea.
I got badly burnt by a film critic once. Leigh Paatsch, the film critic for The Herald Sun paper here in Melbourne Australia, who have Munich the Spielberg film one star out of 5, trashed it and told people not to bother. So I didn't go to see it.
I saw it 2 years layer on DVD and loved it from start to finish, absolutely gripped by it.
Turns out Paatsch is of Kebabese heritage (which I and I assume many others were not aware of) and hated on the film non subjectively because it showed (rightly so) the Lebanese as terrorists of the Munich Olympic games.
So, I've barely trusted a film reviewers since, because a film may iffend them or not be what they wanted.
I think the craft of aspects of filmmaking are on display in The Haunted Mansion, such as stunning priductio design, and how often do we get to see spooky house designs up on the big screen anymore!
Sean Chandler gave a good insightful review focusing on what age groups would think of it but failed to mention the production design, cinematography, score, sound, editing etc. Not one mention of those facets.
I also don't think your review delved deep enough either into multifaceted aspects that audiences may enjoy.
Also, if we all don't turn the Netflix off and go and support cinema, we'll lose cinema as we did video stores, and how great was the 80', 90's and 2000's visiting video stores. We kicked that by buying Netflix subscriptions etc... Well I didn't, as I refuse streaming services or illegally pirating films in my home.
Good to hold a respectful conversation with you though. Thank you.
LaKeith and Rosario always bring it but there's just no original ideas anymore and there's the writers strike going on right now maybe it's time to stop going back to well with the same shit hopefully some new ideas start coming out 🤞🏼.
It's time to do a trailer reaction of SAW X
Done!
@DrumdumsMovieReviews to my perspective. I love the SAW franchise. From what I heard, SAW X was between SAW 1 & and 2, so it looks like a SAW 1½ before the second film and after the first. Besides, I do have a Billy, the clown necklace that represents the franchise. Most saw films in my ratings are 6 out of 10 or higher because of two reasons 1. They all have Bloody Violence with Gore, 2. SAW 3D, the red blood version from the unrated cut is better grading than hot pink blood.
Rosario and Jamie Lee are my two favorites but they wasted them in this particular movie.
At least the ride was good. 🤷🏼♂️
Is it better than the Eddie Murphy film.
I’ve never seen the Eddie Murphy film.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews ok I prefer that film instead at least the original haunted mansion movie have some funny moments and have heart to it this one does not.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviewsyou should go back and review it :)
Personally, I loved this movie. It was so full of heart and comedy, and effectively switched between the two in a way that felt natural. All of the characters were fun and had their own unique charm. It really feels like anyone who hates on this movie really just hates fun.
Very glad you enjoyed it!
twisted metal your review tv show
In the words of the late Tom Petty, Disney is "FREE FALLIN!"
The formula for Disney in todays society is, we cant make new stories for non white characters so lets remake the same old stuff that has those characters or change roles and fill it with inclusion lol. Haunted Mansion being the same old.
Just walked out of this movie 30 mins in....... Sizzling dogsh*t
Some dude was snoring loud AF about 28 minutes in, it was the most honest reaction other than us walking out 😅
Haha love it. I remember seeing a movie a few years ago and homeboy was legit chainsaw snoring even before the movie started.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews oh God xD I remember on our way out, some dude from our theater was talking to the manager about sir snores-a-lot and as we were leaving two employees were on their way to wake homeboy up 😭 people don't play. Going to see Mutant Mayhem tonight, hopefully no shenanigans
@@DavidHustlehoff Haha enjoy!
The writing in this is so bad. Almost all the jokes are dud, nobody has a character apart from LaKeith, and it's so apparent that this thing was hacked together in editing. There are multiple scenes where character clearly aren't responding to the prior line of dialogue. The half-baked attempts at LaKeith being a father figure to the kid fell flat. Just an overall dud of a film.
Yep to all of this.
The Eddie Murphy movie was better
I believe it.
I disagree with you
Yes!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews um ok
I got an idea for next haunted mansion movie, and I'm hispanic....
Stop focusing on casting minorities, nobody gives a s*** if the protagonist is not white....just focus on the writing story, and acting.
Agreed. Story first...always.
Boring, bland, and forgettable, as polar opposite as you yourself sir. BTW I liked your Owen Wilson. As far as this movie goes, I will catch it on Disney+ around Halloween and probably like it ok. It does not seem worth a cinema see.
Was Tiffany Haddish at least funny? Cuz I love that bitch's energy fr 😂
She's a "woman"...please learn the correct word...thanks!!
@@Muzikgirl67 I don't give a shit. Thanks!
@@hoe-teendelvalle4626 Ha! ...and then you wonder why you are probably still single ..🤭🙄🤨
Not at all.
Didn't watch the first one won't see this one, not my style
