A method I have used for Brook Trout is to drill three holes two feet apart and put my sonar in the centre hole. Then I drop a plastic minnow/jig combo to the bottom of one hole, leave it and drop a big Williams spoon down the third hole. I jig the spoon, calling in fish. Then leave it and start working the minnow presentation…..triggering the trout to slam it!!!
I will have to try the dodger trick. On days and locations where I haven't seen fish for a while I have used rattle spoons and found the noise brought in fish. Maybe noise is part of the attraction from the dodger. I love that you try new and different methods. Keep it up!
Thank you for experimenting for us 👌🏻 like you were saying at the end if you are able to have 2 lines out in your region one with a dead stick nearby might see a lot of action 👍🏻
I've found when fishing is slow, I find using a dodger just to get their attention brings them in and then they usually take interest in the smaller option helping in hook ups. With kokanee being the exception.
I love a small 2 inch Williams Wobbler as an attractor for rainbows up here in BC. 8 to 10 inches to the bait under that. And very, very minimal jigging. Mostly just free hanging with the occasional small switch.
Although it would be more difficult - if not near impossible to record fish attractions (withot employing forward looking sonar), I suspect that results would be very similar to trolling lures with and without a dodger.
I grew up fishing that lake and it used to be normal state rules. Since it has changed to selective rules the ammount of use it sees has dropped dramatically. Sad I used to love fishing there. Also really watch for springs along the shore ive fallen through the ice there and was in the water for over 20 min until I managed to get back on the ice. Stay safe
I strategically drill a small hole to fish them horizontally. I like this presentation better, and it allows for two baits, flys, or jigs. Having two hooks is most advantageous on lakes that allow bait, but can be effective without. Tight lines Tyler! Ice fishing TRICK!!!! Catch more fish!! ua-cam.com/video/-p1sB7D0nlg/v-deo.html

Yeah the split season days were the best. Now it just sucks.
My question was the size of the dodger. I wonder if something much smalller would help in geting strikes. Something like a Cleo spoon size?
Could work for sure.
What was the thickness of the ice
5" of clear ice.
Have you done this targeting kokanee through the ice, I always use a dodger but wonder if it makes a difference when getting them to bite.
I haven’t done trials but I’ve jigged for Kokanee thru the ice with and without dodgers and def draw more fish in with the dodger
Interesting experiment. Does the scud resemble what the trout are currently eating? Thanks.
Yes
Shrimp ?
