Fun Video Nick. We still have no safe ice in the Ottawa Valley yet. My son and I planned an overnighter tonight but as soon as we punched our first whole we got outa there. 4 inches with lots of 2inch areas!!! Not enough for an overnighter in my opinion but everyone has a different threshold. Now I sit here sad watching my favorite ‘Tubers catch fish. Certainly is my first world problem of ice season '25!
35 years ago I fell through 4"of ice that turned out to be 1" soft ice. at -25C. I had a half km to get back to my truck. It was not a fun experience. I have needed good terra firma under my feet ever since. I don't take chances, the fish will still be there waiting for me when the ice is safe.
Another great video that you put out Nick. Thanks for the information. I have been watching you for many seasons now and learning quite a bit about ice fishing. Keep up the great work and we will keep on supporting your channel from Thunder Bay Ontario. Happy new year to you and your family.🎉
What underwater camera system are you using? What do you recommend? I have the old Markham Pan Cam and the app no longer works looking to get into something new.
Went out last night (Central MN) very little action. Ice was good, but not drivable other than side by sides & small vehicles. Thanks for the vid Nick!!
Well , we have about 8 to 10 inches of ice on most of the lakes, but only two or 3 inches of snow which is not enough for the snow machines and 99.9% of our trails are through the bush to get to the lakes. Quads are out of the question because of the tough terrain and walking is 10 to 15 miles through the bush to the lake. All we need is one more good snowfall to give us at least 6 inches of snow when we can get the machines out and go fishing. This is the same scenario as we had last year. Seems to be the norm now with the climate change happening in our part of the world.😢
@donbel9435 surely there's somewhere you can access without machines, I walk to literally every spot I go to, but hoping for snow for you to be able to get out there man, it's been a great ice season so far for me and it looks like it's gonna be alot longer than last year was!
@@theterrarianmanhd8482 I may just have to use the small sled and pull my gear through the bush for an hour or so to the lakes that are nearby and just suck it up and fish. There are no local lakes within the city limits to fish. Everything is outside of the city, which is an hour to an hour and a half away, but the season is still young. We may get some snow later this month. 👍
Depends. Usually it’s based on how hard the fish hits. If it smacks it, I like it drill them right away. If it’s a softer bite, I’ll give it a short moment.
Yeah, unfortunately that’s hours the cookie crumbles sometimes. That evening I had a lot of fish come through very very slow on livescope. Didn’t include it all in the video because it would have been 🥱 😴
I really like your videos, good info, but for some reason you never talk depth. You say shallow weeds, but what do you consider shallow weeds. I'm fishing 10 foot, weeds up about a foot or two.....do you consider that shallow weeds? Or are you saying 8, 6 foot? Maybe just letting know what depths you are talking about. Thanks for the videos though! Thank you thank you! Of course you just said depth lol
@@NickLindner OH, ok, well that makes sense, I get what you are saying. I guess I am a bit old skool where it was always depth depth depth. I've learned through your videos and just my own experimentation down here in Southern Minnesota, summer and winter, weeds hold way more fish then the way we fished Lake of the Woods as kids where it was rocks, sand and depth, never fishing weeds. Down here, can't find sand or rocks hardly and when you do, very few fish. Get up on the weed edge, you hammer things. Caught walleyes, 5 foot of water above the weeds. Never thought of such a thing, but it works.
Good bit of tips!! Timing of this video is key!! Liked to see that flutter spoon in action on the scope!! Gives me a visual when jigging it!!
Spending some time with an underwater camera is super helpful for learning how to better use the baits, ever without a camera!
Thanks for another great video Nick!
❤️🎣
Thanks for watching, Evan!
Pike always mean business, that UW scene was cool.
No doubt! Those feisty pickles

Man, four inches is definitely not enough for an overnighter! Hopefully you’ll have enough soon!

That view with the sonar was sick
Thanks buddy

This one is the Marcum Pursuit HD
Excellent tips thanks brotha
Thanks for stopping in 🤙

Thanks for watching. Best of luck the rest of the winter!
Going to target jumbos on clear lake Simcoe tomorrow, going to try the 15-20ft depth range. I find they can be anywhere in Jan. Nice crappie!
Best of luck! I got to get over there at some point
Nick you have anything about targeting walleye in a lake with a very high pike population
Start eating hammerheads for breakfast lunch and dinner 😂
I like Isaac’s answer! 😆
4th 😂 we have some ice but no snow , still waiting to get on the ice. Just down the street from you Jay in Thunder Bay. 😂
Why you waiting??

@@donbel9435 i wishing for some snow for ya!
That rattle bait that you are using reminds me of the clown from the movie 'IT'
Haha for sure!
Northland RIPPIN' SHAD
When jigging for walleye do you guys set the hook right when you feel a hit or wait for a second bite/bigger hit?
Depends. Usually it’s based on how hard the fish hits. If it smacks it, I like it drill them right away. If it’s a softer bite, I’ll give it a short moment.
What app is that depth thing on ?
One boat network for depth contours
What mapping app are you using??
I’m using One Boat Network for mapping and onX Fish for everything else. I’ll use the Helix on my snowmobile for mapping too
How do you do video overlay like that?
I do it in my editing software
Great video. What pound test line are you using ?
6lb fluorocarbon
@ thank you Nick
One thing comes to mind watching this video! Nothing that are doing looks natural to the fish!
No doubt! It’s weird that it works
Traffic is fine but wow were they close to you. 😮😮
That’s just how it goes sometimes in these parts 🤷♂️
What rods are you using, in this video
This one is the TUCR Power Precision
@NickLindner length
@ 38 inch
when u goin live while fishing again? good video.
Maybe Monday night!
Erie may freeze! It's a dang miracle.
Man, if that happens, I may need to get out there!
We don’t even have fishable ice yet in Iowa
Wow, I’m actually surprised to hear that. Hopefully soon 🤞
Negative fish for sure I'm sitting here in the exact conditions just below zero high pressure the fish just don't want to eat frustrating day.

SECOND
First is the worst, second is the best??
Nice
Thanks Scott

Thanks for watching man!
Keep fishing
Always!

Haha sorry! The hard part is it’s more about what the weeds look like than the actual depth itself. Having good healthy weeds is key for this bite.

First
Should have left your wife on the phone... I think she was bringing you. Good luck 😉
I think you’re right, Patrick!
😂 what a weirdo 😅
Haha yup!!
I've never seen a guy so boring that he has his wife on the phone talking about taking the kids to a candy store lol
Hope you didn’t fall asleep watching, Aaron!
I think you share great info, Nick, and I always stop by and watch.
Thank you.
