Rebecca, I have been searching through UA-cam to find someone who identifies as a minimalist but is also down to earth and relatable. I love your content so much and I am now on a binge of all of your videos. Thank you for continuing to creatively brainstorm quality content! I love what you are doing for the world through simple swaps at home.
I agree with everything you've said here barring two- 1. Books- I am an academic and a bibliophile and nothing matters to me more than my library. 2. Spices- I am an avid cook with Indian roots, and I cook different cuisines and feed my friends regularly(pre-covid obviously), so I need my spices. I know people think we eat "curry" but that is not a single dish. Anything with sauce is a curry, and each of those dishes have different names and spice combinations.
I just would like to add, that a lot of food is still good to eat after expiration date. In my opinion it’s better to just use my sense of smell and taste and common sense to decide if something is still fine. I have a friend who discarded all her expired tea for example, but I personally think that if stored correctly tea is can be kept for a loooong time. I just had the impression that you are using expiration date as a general rule to decide if something gets thrown away or not. We create a lot of unnecessary waste by throwing out food that is still perfectly good to eat.
I really agree with you. That date is just to make sure you are a repeat purchaser. What better way for you to see it, know it is expired, write it down on your shopping list and then throw it away. They know how to make you a repeat purchaser.
I agree with the desktop! I only have one folder and the menu and Dock are hidden, so when I start my computer I see a background picture that give me joy :) The perfect way to start work!
Hi! I’m new to your channel and I’m binging your videos, I’m loving them! Some things I want to add: broken furniture. My parents keep a bunch of these, and they can justify a few wooden ones because my grandpa repurpose them sometimes, but we have far too many. We have a couch with a broken seat because my sibling and I jumped on them maybe 10 years ago, and we have few bedframes with no mattress to put on them, and they just block all the paths.... it’s very hard to move around in my house. But still, I’m not old enough to have my own house yet, and it’s not my place to decide what comes and goes, especially big things like furniture. Just thought it’d be nice if we can sell some.
If you save items to the desktop (my biggest fault) it makes the laptop/computer use more memory to have those items "loaded" there rather than in a folder. This includes folders and shortcuts saved to the desktop. Better to save the icon in the task bar or shortcut menu for faster access. When I did this, my computer and laptop both ran faster without lag in starting up or in just running other programs/apps. Hope this helps😊 Those mugs are beautiful!! ❤️
I think Im doing pretty good on the list. Cause most things I do not own altogether or have already decluttered previously to moving to my new house. 🥰🥳
I got rid of all my loyalty cards since most of the places I frequent use my phone # to look my rewards up. For clothing: realizing my fantasy self was huge for me! I kept imagining myself as a stylish version that I didn't really like but for some reason felt like I was. Like I had a bunch of long shirts for leggings and super short shorts or cute peplum tops. But they never flattered my body so I finally realized I don't need those things
Great video! I think I need to declutter some more. You don't need a comb yet for your hair, running your fingers through will do at this stage. You short hair really looks nice and suits you! 🙂
Isn't it funny how we see ourselves? I was staring at your hair thinking it looked so great/fun/awesome/appropriate/fitting on you, and then you got distracted by it and thought it was weird!
Great video! I'm guilty about keeping thousand of similar pictures on my phone. I always say I'm gonna choose the one I like and delete the others but I never do. It's so annoying to delete pictures when you have thousands of them 😅
Awesome video and proud to say that I checked the box on all those suggestions. Just finished decluttering the linen closet. I had sheets from a queen size bed we gave away long ago and kept in case we put a bed in the second bedroom. For some reason I had more fitted sheets than top sheets and an assortment of single pillow cases ...how does that happen? Big love from AZ !
glass jars, so true! and also suitcases. Regarding things such as towels or blankets (things that become relevant, but are not relevant daily, "guest things") I always wonder how many to keep. So, thanks for the tip with the formula :)
I recognized myself in so many things. My problem is, if i have to toss it, it's so much harder. How do you always find someone to donate it to? Like mugs, old clothes, hobby stuff,...? Love your account! Cleaned out the bathroom today and the rest is next!
My answer is pretty late but what I do for a mix of smaller items is that I take a big carton box, write "to give away" on it and put it somewhere out in the streets. Usually it's empty by the end of the day, people just pass by and take what they like... Where I live it's also pretty costumary to do that. I think it's better if it's possible to find someone who would appreciate a specific item and I try to do that for items I have an idea who to donate it to, but it's too time consuming to do that for every little thing, and after a big decluttering session it just feels much more rewarding to get rid of it right away!
I love all your coffee mugs & your very sweet, adorable dog! Also, I cannot tell you how many people I know that keep expired food. One time a friend gave me some tea she had & wasn't going to drink, about 6 boxes. I was happy to get them until I got home and realized they expired 5 years earlier. I have a friend whose daughter just graduated college...she has spices in her cabinet that expired when the daughter was in 7th grade. Another friend had a can of soup that expired 6 years ago. When I point out all this to my friends they just shrug it off & say it's fine. Oh no, I refuse to eat expired food or take expired medicine. I don't get it...
I reviewed all my digital and print photos and deleted more than 50% of them. Ones that were thrown away included those of Christmas trees, table settings from dinner parties, multiple photos of people met on holidays who I'll never see again, animals and fish, landscape photos, wedding photos, scenery photos, etc.
Great list, Rebecca! I am pleased that I already have let go of many items on the list (and I'm not even a minimalist). I do love my cluttered fridge, though. ;) I'm renting and it's a really ugly fridge, so the pictures, etc. that I have on it take away a bit of that ugliness. heh heh
Sentimental things struck me.....🤣 I gave a friend that hangs on yo everything ever given to her even if it is not special or will ever be used. She feels they may come over and not see it and be offended. I have tried to coach her but it is difficult. Get over it!🤣😉🙃
I actually prefer the "bad" pictures because they make me laugh when they come up in the digital photo frame; I'd rather get rid of the "good" ones teehee.
“Do you need all those phone charges?” Me: yes yes i do lol. Son steals one or looses one, need at minimum 3 for my car and 2 for each person. 1 as primary and 1 as a back up lol. Yes we do have 12 chargers lol yes 12. 3 per person phone plus 3 for work phone. We are bad about loosing chargers hahaha
@@RebeccaSisson oh yea for sure lol I was saying it more in a funny way bc we have a ridiculous amount lol. Like who has 12 chargers haha. Also just had to add I love your content and I’m dying to know where you got your master bed? We have been saving up for one and this is exactly what we have been looking for. Much love

I am binge watching all your stuff....you are an utter joy and I love your content!!!!!!!
🤗 thank you!
I love minimalism as a philosophy that can be adapted to the individual. I spoke about this a couple days ago. Great video btw!
I agree with the desktop! I only have one folder and the menu and Dock are hidden, so when I start my computer I see a background picture that give me joy :) The perfect way to start work!
Right?! It makes such a difference
I love how all the things you've listed are things that I need to declutter and fall into all the traps of not getting rid of

I've watched a lot of these videos and yours is the best I've seen! Some great points, thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos are always fun and informative to see. 🌷

All your drawers, and holders are so lovely. Even the card box and for sure the makeup holders.
i love the outtakes on the end :)
🙃
Your dogs face at 6:16 made me laugh. What an adorable doggo! Also, thank you for the advice.
This was a great video!! Every single point was spot on valuable knowledge
I think Im doing pretty good on the list. Cause most things I do not own altogether or have already decluttered previously to moving to my new house. 🥰🥳
🤣 I have so many pictures of my kitty cats on my phone, iPhoto lists one of my cats as my close friends....
Amanthi Chandraratna 😂🤣 hahahahaha hahahahaha.... we all need close friends 😸
Yet another great video. 🤍
✌🌱💚👑 your hair looks great and those earrings are amazing!!
Aw thank you!!
I was about to comment that 😅 she looks gorgeous ALWAYS ❤

Your videos always make me want to go and declutter right after...
Awesome! I love hearing this.
My fridge is sooo full of magnets! But they all come from places I visited, so they make me happy! 😊

Kari S me too.
I was wondering if you could make a minimalist jewelry collection video. I just discovered your channel. I love how real you are>
How would you recommend disposing of shower things/makeup?
*Rebecca Sisson* Amazing Content. i support your channel
Thank you! 🙏❤️

I feel called out about the makeup the academic books... I mean you’re right but ya hurt my feels lmao . I need to let my husband hear this

i have some sentimental [& pretty] handwritten cards that i also use as bookmarks :)
I absolutely love the playing cards with the wood box!!! Where did you find it.
We got it in Thailand.

Leave your hair like this you look amazing!
What is a good place to sell a bridesmaid or prom dress?
I got rid of everything just to keep my books
I think your hair looks good.
Sentimental things struck me.....🤣

If you need all those chargers...do it! It’s not about having the least amount of things, but just what adds value.

I like don't know what you're like talking about. Like at all. Like. :)
